Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of the many advances that have been made in the field of longitudinal survey methodology over the past twelve years, as well as slightly extending the topic coverage of the earlier volume, “Methodology of Longitudinal Surveys.” As such, it describes the state of the art in designing, implementing, and analysing longitudinal surveys. The greatly expanded enthusiasm for longitudinal surveys has brought with it a thirst for knowledge about the best ways to design and implement such surveys. Considerable advances in knowledge have been made in recent years in areas that are covered in this book that encompasses all stages of the design and implementation of longitudinal surveys. Topics include: Dynamic sampling for the representation of dynamic populations; Methods for tracking mobile sample members over time; Methods for maintaining co-operation over time; Targeted design features for response maximisation; The use of longitudinal survey paradata for field management; Advances in dependent interviewing techniques; This book is an invaluable resource providing deeper insight into longitudinal surveys.

Book Training Innovation and Business Performance

Download or read book Training Innovation and Business Performance written by Alfred Michael Dockery and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper uses the Australian Bureau of Statistics' Business Longitudinal Survey to explore relationships between training, innovation, and firm performance for Australian businesses with less than 200 employees. The longitudinal nature of the data is used to test various hypotheses about the nature of the link between training, business changes, and innovation. The paper finds strong evidence of changes in training being associated with the occurrence of innovations over the period of the survey and, to a minor extent, of a link between innovation and the level of on-the-job training being provided in the final year of the survey. These two findings offer some support to sustain a claim that training in itself brings about innovation: (1) firms that undertake formal business or strategic planning are both higher trainers and higher innovators; and (2) using Internet-related activities as an applied example of innovation, evidence is found of a positive link between increases in management training and the adoption of e-commerce. The paper points out, however, that the analysis is significantly constrained by the quality of the data--in particular to the instruments used for measuring training and also for measures of innovation, both of which are far from ideal. Book Handbook of Innovation Indicators and Measurement

Download or read book Handbook of Innovation Indicators and Measurement written by Fred Gault and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'A great book to understand and foster innovation at all levels: a truly innovative piece of work.' Enrico Giovannini, Minister of Labour and Social Policies, Italy 'This book brings together original contributions from world leading experts on innovation indicators and is unique in several respects. First, the focus is upon innovation in terms of commercialized products and processes and not on secondary indicators of research or patenting. Second, it combines academic perspectives with user perspectives from industry and international organizations. Third, it strikes a good balance between old and new indicators, opening up new dimensions of innovation for measuring. It is a book worth reading for scholars studying innovation, for policy makers and, not least, for innovation managers in the private sector.' Bengt-Åke Lundvall, Aalborg University, Denmark and Sciences-Po, Paris, France This Handbook comprehensively examines indicators and statistical measurement related to innovation (as defined in the OECD/Eurostat Oslo Manual). It deals with the development and the use of innovation indicators to support decision-making and is written by authors who are practitioners, who know what works and what does not, in order to improve the development of indicators to satisfy future policy needs. This unique volume presents: the historical and geographical context for innovation indicators and measurement practical examples of how measurement is actually undertaken new areas of innovation indicators and measurement, including consumer innovation, public sector innovation and social innovation. This informative Handbook will appeal to policy makers in government departments, statistical offices and research institutes and international organizations such as the EU, OECD and the UN, as well as university departments of economics, sociology, law, science and technology, and public policy.

Book Handbook of Longitudinal Research Methods in Organisation and Business Studies

Download or read book Handbook of Longitudinal Research Methods in Organisation and Business Studies written by Melanie E. Hassett and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Handbook is a very timely contribution to organization and business studies. Most calls for longitudinal research are made in sections of published work that deal with limitations of the study or suggestions for further research. This book places longitudinal research methods at center stage. With its practical, hands-on approach it guides us how to design a longitudinal study in and around organizations whether qualitative or quantitative and how to implement it. I warmly recommend this Handbook to ambitious senior and junior researchers. It makes the commonly presented excuses for not undertaking longitudinal research completely redundant. Rebecca Piekkari, Aalto University, School of Business in Helsinki, Finland This is a very timely book that fills an important gap in the field of research methods. So far very little attention has been paid to longitudinal research methods, while the usefulness of this type of research has often been discussed in many papers and conferences. Insights provided by scholars who have been doing this type of research provide useful guidelines for anyone interested in research methods from senior scholars to young researchers and PhD candidates. This volume will serve as an excellent complement to the existing range of books on research methods. Pervez Ghauri, Kings College London, UK This innovative Handbook demonstrates that there is no single best approach to conducting longitudinal studies. At their best, longitudinal research designs yield rich, contextualised, multilevel and deep understanding of the studied phenomenon. The lack of resources in terms of time, funding and people can pose a serious challenge to conducting longitudinal research. This book tackles many of these challenges and discusses the role of longitudinal research programmes in overcoming such obstacles. This book shows how longitudinal research methods enable the understanding of dynamics, mechanisms, causalities and interrelationships of organizational and business concepts in context and in relation to time. It discusses the richness and versatility of longitudinal research and offers, to students and experienced scholars alike, numerous viewpoints, reflections and personal accounts about conducting longitudinal research, from planning and fieldwork to reporting and managing of research projects.

Book Productivity Inequality and the Digital Economy

Download or read book Productivity Inequality and the Digital Economy written by Nathalie Greenan and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2002-08-02 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essays on the computer and the economy, particularly in relation to employment rates and to wage inequality. The widespread diffusion of information and communication technologies (ICT) has had controversial, seemingly paradoxical consequences. ICT are viewed as driving growth and employment in the United States, while contributing to European unemployment and the so-called Eurosclerosis. At the same time, both the United States and Europe have seen increased wage inequalities between skilled and unskilled workers. This book explores the computer's puzzling effects on the economy, at both the micro and macro levels. The contributions include data from field work, small samples of firms, and national surveys of management practice; econometric studies; and macroeconomic theoretical analysis.

Book Innovations in Federal Statistics

Download or read book Innovations in Federal Statistics written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2017-04-21 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Federal government statistics provide critical information to the country and serve a key role in a democracy. For decades, sample surveys with instruments carefully designed for particular data needs have been one of the primary methods for collecting data for federal statistics. However, the costs of conducting such surveys have been increasing while response rates have been declining, and many surveys are not able to fulfill growing demands for more timely information and for more detailed information at state and local levels. Innovations in Federal Statistics examines the opportunities and risks of using government administrative and private sector data sources to foster a paradigm shift in federal statistical programs that would combine diverse data sources in a secure manner to enhance federal statistics. This first publication of a two-part series discusses the challenges faced by the federal statistical system and the foundational elements needed for a new paradigm.
