Book Living in the long run

Download or read book Living in the long run written by Dr. Patrick Krause and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-04-26 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you want to run - a marathon in under four hours or at the age of 90? To take Arne Haase as a role model: Germany's oldest marathon runner is still doing 20 kilometers twice a week at the age of 90. And it doesn't have to be that sporty. But wouldn't the Haase model be a nice vision of you in your old days, being trapped in the body of a 45-year-old? For millions of people, regular exercise is part of their lives. But almost all of us run the wrong way. To stay mobile from now until old age, we can make up our minds for a fundamental change. E.g. we mostly, unconsciously run as if we were training for a competition. From the age of 40, our strength and joints start to deteriorate. So what can we change in order to enjoy it forever? Change our running attitude, running mindfully, reduce our biological age: Food for thought from philosophy, psychology and coaching leads to a lifestyle that keeps you strong and healthy forever. One reading session and you're off and running! Living in the long Run is neither a motivational guide nor a training companion: just read it, put it down and start a new life! The inspiring narrative running coach invites you to take things radically slowly, but to take the first small step towards almost infinity. Because endurance matters. Running properly starts in your mind! In order to still be strong at the age of 90, author Dr. Patrick Krause tears down the performance patterns from our sporting past as well as our modern society; running (or any other fitness sport) should ultimately glide into the flow beyond all logic of increase - our bones will be grateful! How does that kind of stress-reduced running work? More like a meditation to go with the flow - and that's also how the book is written. Because running properly starts in your mind! This means eliminating opponents such as some fellow runners and potential tempo tyrans like watches and apps, which focus on competition and the logic of improvement. It's about consciously taking every mental and athletic step. Valuable companions on the short path to an eternal running life are techniques from meditation and philosophy as well as impulses from other sports and training aspects for long distances. Because those who train like iron triathletes can surpass themselves, you bet! Living in the long Run combines running with joie de vivre in an instructive and entertaining way, both immediately and long-term.

Download or read book Living for the Future written by Rachel Muers and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our relationship to future generations raises fundamental issues for ethical thought, to which a Christian theological response is both possible and significant. A relationship to future generations is implicitly central to many of today's most public controversies - over environmental protection, genetic research, and the purpose of education, to name but a few; but it has received little explicit or extended consideration. In Living for the Future Rachel Muers argues and seeks to demonstrate that to consider future generations as ethically significant is not simply to extend an existing ethical framework, but to rethink how ethics is done. Doing intergenerationally responsible theology and ethics means paying attention to how people are formed as theological and ethical reasoners (reasoners about the good), how social practices of deliberation about the good are maintained and developed, and how all of this relates to an understanding of the world as the sphere of God's transforming action. In other words, an intergenerationally responsible theological ethics will pay attention to the ethics, and the spirituality, of "ethics" itself. Her account of the ethical relation to future generations centres on three key concepts: "choosing life" (see Deut 30:19); "keeping the sources open"; and "sustaining fruitful contexts". These concepts are developed theologically and in engagement with extra-theological conversations on intergenerational responsibility. She shows how they take up and move beyond concerns expressed in those conversations - for "survival", for the right distribution of resources, and for the maintenance of human values.

Book excerpt: Wetherall lived in fifteen houses and five countries by the time she was nine. She didn't think this was strange until Scotland Yard showed up, and she discovered her father was a fugitive and their family name was an alias. In 1983, the year she was born, her parents went on the run with three young children, traveling across Europe, their expenses paid for with drug money. It was over the summers spent visiting her dad in prison in California that he told her the truth: he had been a pot smuggler in the seventies, and his organization had bought in marijuana worth nearly a half billion dollars from Thailand. Here Wetherall pieces together the story of her parents' past, which ultimately helps her understand her own. -- adapted from publisher info.
