Book Marine Microorganisms for Industry

Download or read book Marine Microorganisms for Industry written by Yves Le Gal and published by Editions Quae. This book was released on 1997 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the meeting held on 17-19 September 1997 in Brest, some potential uses of marine microorganisms were examined in order to assess current knowledge. Communications reported in this publication refer principally to the substances found in these microorganisms: in particular to long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids produced by bacteria, cyanobacteria and microalgae; enzymes, focusing on those stable at high temperatures, from deep sea bacteria; polysaccharides from bacteria; other substance presenting biological activities that could be of interest for pharmaceutical, food, feed or cosmetics industries and for preventing marine fouling and contamination by heavy metals. Some general aspects have also been examined, such as methods and means for microalgae strain holding, research of biological activities, culture of those microorganisms, and purification of molecules. Industrial issues related to these developments were presented by representatives from some relevant industries.

Book Marine Biogenic Lipids Fats and Oils

Download or read book Marine Biogenic Lipids Fats and Oils written by Robert George Ackman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989-04-30 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph will put the biogenic marine lipids of many organisms in perspective. Up to 100 years ago, fish and shellfish were frequent and major components of our "western" diet. In search of progress and convenience, we have given up many such foods in favor of those produced by "agribusiness" interests. There are different viewpoints on the merits of the marine omage-3 fatty acids and of the terrestrial omega-6 fatty acids in human nutrition, and every individual may have different needs. This monograph should help researchers relate these basic building blocks of lipids in the fascinating world of marine organisms to our contemporary interest in human biochemistry, nutrition, and health.

Book Les lipides nutrition et sant

Download or read book Les lipides nutrition et sant written by LERAY Claude and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-04-04 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

  • Author : Michael T. Arts
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2009-06-12
  • ISBN : 0387893660
  • Pages : 395 pages

Download or read book Lipids in Aquatic Ecosystems written by Michael T. Arts and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-12 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evidence now suggests that the roles of essential fatty acids as growth promoters and as indices of health and nutrition are fundamentally similar in freshwater and marine ecosystems. Lipids in Aquatic Ecosystems integrates this divergent literature into a coordinated, digestible form. Chapters are organized so as to discuss and synthesize the flow of lipids from lower to higher trophic levels, up to and including humans. Linkages between the production, distribution and pathways of these essential compounds within the various levels of the aquatic food webs, and their ultimate uptake by humans and other terrestrial organisms, are highlighted throughout the book. This book will be of interest to researchers and resource managers working with aquatic ecosystems.

Book Geochemistry of Organic Matter in the Ocean

Download or read book Geochemistry of Organic Matter in the Ocean written by Evgenii A. Romankevich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My work Geochemistry oj organic matter in the ocean first appeared in Russian in 1978. Since then much progress has been made in the exploration of various forms of organic matter in the ocean: dissolved, colloidal, organic matter sus pended in particles and that contained in bottom sediments and in interstitial waters. The appropriate evidence is found in hundreds of articles and several re view works, such as Andersen (1977), Biogeochimie de [a matiere organique a ['interjace eau-sedimentmarine (1980), Duursma and Dawson (1981). A great amount of new information has been obtained in the Soviet Union's scientific institutions on the composition and distribution in natural waters and bottom sediments of organic matter and its separate components playing a crucial role in the formation of the chemical and biological structure of the ocean and its productivity, in the biogeochemistry of the elements and geochemistry of organic matter in the Earth's sedimentary cover. The areas of exploration have expanded over the past four-and-a-half years to embrace many new, little-known regions, including the Arctic seas. In contrast to the three preceeding decades, the research has been focused on investigating the existing forms, the distribution and accumulation of organic matter in near continental oceanic zones between land and sea, and in river estuaries.
