Book Life Cycle Costing for the Analysis Management and Maintenance of Civil Engineering Infrastructure

Download or read book Life Cycle Costing for the Analysis Management and Maintenance of Civil Engineering Infrastructure written by John W. Bull and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The key areas of life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) and whole life costing (WLC) are exemplified in this volume with accounts of their application to housing stock, a community hydroelectric power system, various aspects of highway infrastructure, and corrosion protective coatings. Sustainable construction and design requires more than compliance with safety requirements and economic constraints, there is also the impact on the environment, the surrounding population and users of the infrastructure. This requires a multidimensional perspective of sustainability to be considered in life cycle costing (LCC) combining current design criteria with these other aspects. It has become increasingly important to understand the full costs of civil engineering infrastructure, and the main sources of cost, along the whole supply chain and to identify cost reduction opportunities. The conventional procurement approach without the integration of probabilistic life-cycle cost modelling induces substantial long term maintenance costs. Once deterioration and life-cycle cost models have been established, appropriate partnership procurement strategies, associated financing methods and determination of the project period can be developed.

Book Economic Analysis Primer

Download or read book Economic Analysis Primer written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This primer provides a foundation for understanding the role of economic analysis in highway decision making. It is oriented toward state and local officials who have responsibility for assuring that limited resources get targeted to their best uses and who must publicly account for their decisions. Economic analysis is presented as an integral component of a comprehensive infrastructure management methodology that takes a long-term view of infrastructure performance and cost. The primer encompasses a full range of economic issues, including economic fundamentals, life-cycle cost analysis, benefit-cost analysis, forecasting traffic for benefit calculations, risk analysis and economic impact analysis.

Book Estimating Life Expectancies of Highway Assets Guidebook

Download or read book Estimating Life Expectancies of Highway Assets Guidebook written by Paul David Thompson and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1 addresses how to apply a methodology for estimating the life expectancies of major types of highway system assets. The methodology is designed for use in lifecycle cost analyses that support management decision making. Volume 2 describes the technical issues and data needs associated with estimating asset life expectancies and the practices used in a number of fields--such as the energy and financial industries--to make such estimates.

Book Maintenance Costs and Life Cycle Cost Analysis

Download or read book Maintenance Costs and Life Cycle Cost Analysis written by Diego Galar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authors have attempted to create coherent chapters and sections on how the fundamentals of maintenance cost should be organized, to present them in a logical and sequential order. Necessarily, the text starts with importance of maintenance function in the organization and moves to life cycle cost (LCC) considerations followed by the budgeting constraints. In the process, they have intentionally postponed the discussion about intangible costs and downtime costs later on in the book mainly due to the controversial part of it when arguing with managers. The book will be concluding with a short description of a number of sectors where maintenance cost is of critical importance. The goal is to train the readers for a deeper study and understanding of these elements for decision making in maintenance, more specifically in the context of asset management. This book is intended for managers, engineers, researchers, and practitioners, directly or indirectly involved in the area of maintenance. The book is focused to contribute towards better understanding of maintenance cost and use of this knowledge to improve the maintenance process. Key Features: • Emphasis on maintenance cost and life cycle cost especially under uncertainty. • Systematic approach of how cost models can be applied and used in the maintenance field. • Compiles and reviews existing maintenance cost models. • Consequential and direct costs considered. • Comparison of maintenance costs in different sectors, infrastructure, manufacturing, transport.

Book Life Cycle Cost Analysis

Download or read book Life Cycle Cost Analysis written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A diverse landscape, central geographical location, and growing population are among the constant factors influencing the Colorado Department of Transportation's (CDOT's) decisions and activities. But in the last few years, economic conditions have added complexity to the State's highway program. Not only is transportation funding at an all-time low, but inflation and the rising cost of materials have reduced CDOT's buying power. In addition, the agency faces intense public scrutiny about the use of taxpayer funds. To demonstrate its concern over the effective use of funding for Colorado's transportation system, CDOT has adopted an innovative and rational approach to investing in its roadways - Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA).
