Book Eliminativism Objects and Persons

Download or read book Eliminativism Objects and Persons written by Jiri Benovsky and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Eliminativism, Objects, and Persons, Jiri Benovsky defends the view that he doesn't exist. In this book, he also defends the view that this book itself doesn't exist. But this did not prevent him to write the book, and although in Benovsky's view you don't exist either, this does not prevent you to read it. Benovsky defends a brand of non-exceptionalist eliminativism. Some eliminativists, typically focusing on ordinary material objects such as chairs and hammers, make exceptions, for instance for blue whales (that is, living beings) or for persons (that is, conscious organisms). Benovsky takes one by one all types of allegedly existing objects like chairs, whales, and persons and shows that from the metaphysical point of view they are more trouble than they are worth—we are much better off without them. He thus defends an eliminativist view about ordinary objects as well as the 'no-Self' view, where he explores connections between metaphysics, phenomenology, and Buddhist thought. He then also considers the case of aesthetic objects, focusing on musical works and photographs, and shows that the claim of their non-existence solves the many problems that arise when one tries to find an appropriate ontological category for them, and that such an eliminativist view is more natural than what we might have thought. The arguments provided here are always topic-specific: each type of entity is given its own type of treatment, thus proving a varied and solid foundation for a generalized, non-exceptionalist, full-blown eliminativist worldview.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book Drowning

Download or read book Drowning written by Edith Bleue and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-06-19 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyday were bombarded with news.. With problems.. With life.. Its hard to escape it, but we find a way to do so anyways.. We try and escape our lives.. And we drown ourselves in the world around us.. We drown ourselves in the news.. In celebrity gossip.. In movies.. Books.. Television.. And music.. We often find ourselves relating to the words of a song.. How the lyrics fit our life story.. How that song was written just for us.. And we drown ourselves in that fantasy world.. We drown in other peoples problems and also our own.. But never think of how to fix them, and finally escape So for those who never had a father.. Or for those who never had a parent.. For those who got their hearts broken.. For those that sacrificed a great love.. For those who fell hard for the wrong person.. For those trying to deal with and get over a tragic heartbreak.. For those trying to figure themselves out.. For just everyday problems and worries.. Drown like I did in having to deal with them and cope with them.. But at the end of the day learn how to move on from them.. And never look back again.. So for now, drown yourself in your thoughts and mine.. Relate your life to mine.. Your problems and mine.. Worry about them.. Deal with them.. Figure those feelings out.. Figure out how to make things better for yourself.. Let all that anger out.. Let that hate and sadness fall out.. Let those hidden feelings come out.. Drown yourself in all of that for now.. But in the end, get that strength to find your own way to save yourself.. And no longer drown.. And to finally move on, and finally get out

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having this book is a helpful material on how to make our life simpler. As a good result, it forces improvements in almost all aspects of your life. Minimalism is finding freedom in your life to enjoy it. The objects you keep in your life are brought into it or held in your life with much more thought. Your things all have a purpose or reason. There are no strict rules to minimalism, it is what you make it, and it goes how far you want it to go. The point is to have fewer physical things weighing you down so you can make better decisions for your life overall. The concept that fewer items in your house will alter your mind and allow you to think clearer and remember better is hard to get across unless you've felt it personally. Minimalism focuses on simplifying your life to grant you the freedom to live it to the fullest, allowing you to focus on the things you want to do versus the things you have to do. Take on an additional project at work to make more money, take that cooking class you have always thought about, or maybe, just be able to relax in the comfort of your home and read a book.

Book excerpt: The last sixty years have been full of stories of one or other possible Armageddon, whether by nuclear war, plague, cosmic catastrophe or, more recently, global warming, terrorism, genetic engineering, AIDS and other pandemics. These stories, both pre- and post-apocalyptic, describe the fall of civilization, the destruction of the entire Earth, or the end of the Universe itself. Many of the stories reflect on humankind's infinite capacity for self-destruction, but the stories are by no means all downbeat or depressing - one key theme explores what the aftermath of a cataclysm might be and how humans strive to survive.
