Book excerpt: Cette étude de cas porte sur un sujet présentant un retard sévère d'acquisition du langage oral dans un milieu bilingue franco-italien. Nous avons tenté de distinguer les déficits signant l'expression d'un trouble spécifique de ceux pouvant être le reflet de difficultés provoquées par le bilinguisme. Pour cela nous avons effectué des enregistrements en situation naturelle avec un interlocuteur pour chacune des langues. Des données chiffrées ont été obtenues grâce à l'analyse des corpus par le logiciel CLAN (Computerized Language Analysis) issu du projet de recherche international CHILDES (Child Language Data Exchange System). Ce premier travail fut complété par une analyse qualitative des erreurs. Dans une perspective diagnostique, nous nous sommes intéressées à l'évolution du sujet entre 4 ans 3 mois et 5 ans 1 mois. Certains déficits linguistiques observés évoquent un trouble spécifique. Ils sont durables et touchent à la fois la morphologie libre et la morphologie flexionnelle. Certaines difficultés comme l'omission du pronom sujet peuvent être liées à la situation de bilinguisme mais semblent aggravées par la présence d'un trouble du langage. D'autre part, nous décrivons les stratégies linguistiques de l'enfant (créations de mots et mélange des langues). Un certain nombre d'éléments laissent penser que le profil du sujet correspond au continuum décrit dans le cadre du «Specific Language Impairment» ou Trouble Spécifique du Langage.

Le manque d'outils d'évaluation adaptés rend complexe la distinction entre les déficits liés à un trouble développemental du langage (TDL) et ceux liés à un retard secondaire au bilinguisme. Les compétences morphosyntaxiques dans des contextes de bilinguisme précis demeurent peu documentées car ce sont les tâches qui ne dépendent pas de connaissances linguistiques qui sont proposées actuellement. Nous émettons l'hypothèse que le TDL impacte les compétences morphosyntaxiques sur les versants réceptif et expressif. A l'aide d'épreuves étalonnées de la CELF-5, nous avons évalué les compétences morphosyntaxiques d'un enfant bilingue français/italien TDL (Bi TDL) de 6 ans. Nous avons comparé ses compétences avec un bilingue au développement typique (Bi DT) et un monolingue TDL (Mono TDL). Puis nous avons évalué chez les 3 participants quel versant du langage était le plus déficitaire. Les résultats ont montré des erreurs similaires chez les 3 participants, elles étaient plus importantes chez le Bi TDL. Le Bi TDL a obtenu des scores dans la zone pathologique en compréhension (P4) ainsi qu'en production (P2). Le Mono TDL a obtenu des scores dans la moyenne faible en compréhension (P23) et dans la zone pathologique en production (P2). Le Bi DT a obtenu des scores dans la moyenne faible en compréhension (P23) et dans la zone à risque en production (P13). Les résultats de cette étude objectivent un effet du TDL et du bilinguisme sur les compétences morphosyntaxiques chez le Bi TDL sur les versants réceptif et expressif.

Book excerpt: Cette étude repose la question du décalage ou de la déviance chez quatre enfants en retard sévère d'acquisition du langage oral et âgés de 3 ans et 1 mois à 4 ans et 5 mois. En effet, nous avons essayé d'observer si l'émergence de la syntaxe est contemporaine d'un vocabulaire* expressif de " 50 mots environ " comme chez l'enfant typique. Pour ce faire, deux méthodologies ont été employées : le questionnaire Mac Arthur Communicative Development Inventories francisé a permis d'évaluer le stock lexical de sortie des sujets, tandis que des enregistrements audio et vidéo en séance de rééducation ont fourni des corpus de langage semi-induit. Pour chaque sujet, la L. M. P. V.* et la répartition " grammaticale " selon la grille de Bassano ont été extraites. Nos observations attestent un ordre canonique des mots* et une faible capacité à combiner pour tous, une utilisation de fillers* ainsi qu'une absence d'activité morphologique chez trois des quatre sujets, a contrario du quatrième qui ne prononce pas de fillers* mais fléchit un verbe en répétition : la (morpho)syntaxe n'est donc pas encore efficace alors que deux des enfants présentent un stock de plus de 200 mots*. En revanche un enfant commence à combiner alors qu'il possède un vocabulaire* en deçà de 50 mots*. Le rendez-vous lexico-grammatical escompté ne semble pas avoir systématiquement lieu dans la population d'enfants en retard d'acquisition du langage : il ne s'agirait donc pas d'un " simple " décalage chronologique.

Les importantes différences typologiques entre le turc et le français, ainsi que les pratiques langagières au sein de la communauté turque influencent considérablement l’acquisition du français langue seconde chez l’enfant bilingue. Les enfants en GSM, entamant leur troisième année d’apprentissage formel du français, présentent une bilingualité dominante en turc. De ce fait, nous émettons l’hypothèse qu’à cet âge, ils montreront des compétences lexicales et morphosyntaxiques moins développées en français. Nous avons évalué ces capacités au moyen du logiciel orthophonique EXALANG 3-6. Nous y avons associé une épreuve de récits en images en langue turque et en langue française. Ainsi, nous avons pu recueillir des données sur le niveau en turc des enfants bilingues constituant notre population. Nous avons proposé le même protocole à un échantillon d’enfants monolingues français afin de pouvoir procéder à une comparaison, quantitative et qualitative des compétences étudiées. Il s’avère que les enfants bilingues franco-turcs produisent des erreurs spécifiques portant sur le genre. Les autres difficultés sont semblables à celles de leurs pairs monolingues, mais en quantité supérieure. Ceci suggère que ce sont des erreurs développementales. Le retard constaté s’apparente à un décalage naturel compte tenu de l’apprentissage du français en cours. Cet écart n’a donc rien d’alarmant à ce stade. En tant que professionnel, il convient de considérer la langue première de l’enfant. Celle-ci étant le témoin d’un développement langagier harmonieux, puisque pratiquée depuis la naissance, chez l’enfant bilingue précoce consécutif. Dans le cas d’une prise en charge orthophonique, le thérapeute pourra élaborer un projet de soin adapté à l’enfant en intégrant sa culture première. Cette démarche nous inscrit dans une orthophonie pluri-ethnique.
