Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DES RESULTATS THEORIQUES ET EXPERIMENTAUX CONCERNANT LES ECOULEMENTS POLYPHASIQUES EN MILIEU POREUX HETEROGENE DE TYPE NODULAIRE SONT PRESENTES. L'ETUDE THEORIQUE EST BASEE SUR LE CAS QUASI STATIQUE DE LA METHODE DE PRISE DE MOYENNE A GRANDE ECHELLE. L'ETUDE EXPERIMENTALE CONSISTE EN LA REALISATION D'ECOULEMENTS DIPHASIQUES (EAU-HUILE) DANS DES MILIEUX POREUX A HETEROGENEITE NODULAIRE. LES RESULTATS MONTRENT UNE DIFFERENCE DE COMPORTEMENT ENTRE LE SYSTEME OU LES NODULES SONT CONSTITUES DU MILIEU LE PLUS PERMEABLE ET LE SYSTEME OU LES NODULES SONT CONSTITUES DU MILIEU LE MOINS PERMEABLE. LES RESULTATS EXPERIMENTAUX ILLUSTRENT, PAR AILLEURS, L'EXISTENCE DES EFFETS DYNAMIQUES, DONT L'INTERPRETATION EXIGE UN RECOURS A LA VERSION GENERALE DE LA THEORIE DE PRISE DE MOYENNE A GRANDE ECHELLE.

Book Vadose Zone Hydrology

Download or read book Vadose Zone Hydrology written by Marc B. Parlange and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1999 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vadose zone is the region between ground level and the upper limits of soil fully saturated with water. Hydrology in the zone is complex: nonlinear physical, chemical, and biological interactions all affect the transfer of heat, mass, and momentum between the atmosphere and the water table. This book takes an interdisciplinary approach to vadose zone hydrology, bringing together insights from soil science, hydrology, biology, chemistry, physics, and instrumentation design. The chapters present state-of-the-art research, focusing on new frontiers in theory, experiment, and management of soils. The collection addresses the full range of processes, from the pore-scale to field and landscape scales.

Book Mathematical Models and Finite Elements for Reservoir Simulation

Download or read book Mathematical Models and Finite Elements for Reservoir Simulation written by G. Chavent and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1986-01-01 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical simulators for oil reservoirs have been developed over the last twenty years and are now widely used by oil companies. The research, however, has taken place largely within the industry itself, and has remained somewhat inaccessible to the scientific community. This book hopes to remedy the situation by means of its synthesized presentation of the models used in reservoir simulation, in a form understandable to both mathematicians and engineers. The book aims to initiate a rigorous mathematical study of the immiscible flow models, partly by using the novel `global pressure' approach in treating incompressible two-phase problems. A finite element approximation technique based on the global pressure variational model is presented, and new approaches to the modelling of various kinds of multiphase flow through porous media are introduced.Much of the material is highly original, and has not been presented elsewhere. The mathematical and numerical models should be of great interest to applied mathematicians, and to engineers seeking an alternative approach to reservoir modelling.

Book Analyse Asymptotique Du Probl me de Riemann Pour Les coulements Compositionnels Polyphasiques en Milieux Poreux Et Applications Aux R servoirs Souterrains

Download or read book Analyse Asymptotique Du Probl me de Riemann Pour Les coulements Compositionnels Polyphasiques en Milieux Poreux Et Applications Aux R servoirs Souterrains written by Anahita Abadpour and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first part of thesis we deal with two-phase multicomponent, partially miscible, compressible flow in porous media. Displacement of one phase by another is analyzed. We examine non ideal solutions, pressure is variable, and phase compositions, densities and viscosities are variable functions of pressure. The process is described by Riemann problem which admits discontinuous solutions. We developed a numerical-analytical method of solution to explicitly determine all shock parameters before solving the flow equations. This method is based on splitting thermodynamics and hydrodynamics, suggested in [Oladyshkin, Panfilov 2006]. Earlier this method was inapplicable to Riemann problem, due to the lack of Hugoniot conditions. In this thesis we have constructed additional Hugoniot conditions. In the second part we examine two-phase flow when the single-phase zones appear, in this zone the fluid is over/under-saturated and two-phase flow equations degenerate and they cannot be used. We proposed to describe two-phase and over/under-saturated single-phase zones by uniform system of classic two-phase equations while extending the concept of phase saturation to be negative and higher than one. Physically it means that the oversaturated single-phase states are considered as pseudo two-phase states consisting an imaginary phase with negative saturation. Such an extension of saturation requires developing some consistence conditions which have developed in this thesis. The last part then is devoted to extend the HT-split model to the case of three-phase compositional flow. We have obtained the general asymptotic model, in which the thermodynamics and hydrodynamics are split.

Book Unsaturated Flow in Hydrologic Modeling

Download or read book Unsaturated Flow in Hydrologic Modeling written by H.J. Morel-Seytoux and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume certainly is a Conference Proceedings, the Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on "Unsaturated Flow in Hydrologic Modeling" held at "Les Villages du Soleil" near ArIes, France from June 13 to 17, 1988. Let me therefore acknowledge properly, at the very beginning, the gratitude of all the participants to the NATO Science Committee for its generous support and worthwhile goal of bringing together scientists of many countries to communicate and share their experiences. Particular thanks are extended to the director of the program, Dr. Luis Vega da Cunha for his interest and understanding. On the other hand this volume is also, and probably more so, a Textbook that fills a gap in the field of unsaturated flow. Many treatises on the subject present the theory in its different aspects. Hardly any explain in details how the different pieces can be put together to address realistic problems at the basin scale. The various invited contributions to the ARW were structured in a subject progression much as chapters are organized in a book. The intent of the ARW was to assess the current state of knowledge in "Unsaturated Flow" and its use in "Hydrologic Modeling Practice". In a sense the interest in fundamentals of unsaturated flow in this ARW was not just for the sake of knowledge but also and primarily for the sake of action. Can such fundamental knowledge be utilized for better management of the water resource? was the basic question.

Book Physics of Finely Divided Matter

Download or read book Physics of Finely Divided Matter written by N. Boccara and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second Winter School on the "~hysics of Finely Divided Matter" was held at the Centre de Physique des Houches from 25 March to 5 April 1985. This meeting brought together experts from the areas of gels and porous media. People with different backgrounds - chemists, physicists - from university as well as industrial labora tories, had the opportunity to compare their most recent experimental and theoreti cal results. Although the experimental situations and techniques may seem at first sight unrelated, the theoretical interpretations are very similar and may be divided roughly into two categories: percolation and aggregation. These are present for the description of the synthesis of some gels as well as for a description of the struc ture of packings. They are also a precious help for understanding flows in porous media and hydrodynamic instabilities such as viscous fingering. A different aspect, still in its early stages, deals with the influence of a ran dom medium on a phase transition. This leads to metastable states and is interpreted in terms of random fields. The following topics were covered: introduction to physical and chemical gels structure of packings and porous media microemulsions percol ati on aggregation elastic and dielectric properties of ill-connected media properties of gels near and far from the gelation threshold flow, diffusion and dispersion in porous media transitions in porous media. Most of these are rapidly growing subjects, and we hope that these proceedings will serve as a reference for those entering this fascinating area.
