Book Lectures on the Fourier Transform and Its Applications

Download or read book Lectures on the Fourier Transform and Its Applications written by Brad G. Osgood and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-01-18 with total page 689 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is derived from lecture notes for a course on Fourier analysis for engineering and science students at the advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate level. Beyond teaching specific topics and techniques—all of which are important in many areas of engineering and science—the author's goal is to help engineering and science students cultivate more advanced mathematical know-how and increase confidence in learning and using mathematics, as well as appreciate the coherence of the subject. He promises the readers a little magic on every page. The section headings are all recognizable to mathematicians, but the arrangement and emphasis are directed toward students from other disciplines. The material also serves as a foundation for advanced courses in signal processing and imaging. There are over 200 problems, many of which are oriented to applications, and a number use standard software. An unusual feature for courses meant for engineers is a more detailed and accessible treatment of distributions and the generalized Fourier transform. There is also more coverage of higher-dimensional phenomena than is found in most books at this level.

Book Integral Transforms and Their Applications

Download or read book Integral Transforms and Their Applications written by B. Davies and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to serve as introductory and reference material for the application of integral transforms to a range of common mathematical problems. It has its im mediate origin in lecture notes prepared for senior level courses at the Australian National University, although I owe a great deal to my colleague Barry Ninham, a matter to which I refer below. In preparing the notes for publication as a book, I have added a considerable amount of material ad- tional to the lecture notes, with the intention of making the book more useful, particularly to the graduate student - volved in the solution of mathematical problems in the physi cal, chemical, engineering and related sciences. Any book is necessarily a statement of the author's viewpoint, and involves a number of compromises. My prime consideration has been to produce a work whose scope is selective rather than encyclopedic; consequently there are many facets of the subject which have been omitted--in not a few cases after a preliminary draft was written--because I v believe that their inclusion would make the book too long.

Book Integral Transform Techniques for Green s Function

Download or read book Integral Transform Techniques for Green s Function written by Kazumi Watanabe and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-20 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes mathematical techniques for integral transforms in a detailed but concise manner. The techniques are subsequently applied to the standard partial differential equations, such as the Laplace equation, the wave equation and elasticity equations. Book Applied Integral Transforms

Download or read book Applied Integral Transforms written by M. Ya. Antimirov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2007 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constructs the kernels of integral transforms by solving the generalized Sturm-Liouville problems associated with the partial differential equations at hand. In the first part of the book, the authors construct the kernels and use them to solve elementary problems of mathematical physics. This part requires little mathematical background and provides an introduction to the subject of integral transforms as it proceeds mainly by examples and includes a variety of exercises. In the second part of the book, the method of integral transforms is used to solve modern applied problems in convective stability, temperature fields in oil strata, and eddy-current testing. The choice of topics reflects the authors' research experience and involvement in industrial applications. The first part of the book is accessible to undergraduates, while the second part is aimed at graduate students and researchers. Because of the applications, the book will interest engineers (especially petroleum engineers) and physicists.

Book Lectures on Differential Equations

Download or read book Lectures on Differential Equations written by Philip L. Korman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lectures on Differential Equations provides a clear and concise presentation of differential equations for undergraduates and beginning graduate students. There is more than enough material here for a year-long course. In fact, the text developed from the author's notes for three courses: the undergraduate introduction to ordinary differential equations, the undergraduate course in Fourier analysis and partial differential equations, and a first graduate course in differential equations. The first four chapters cover the classical syllabus for the undergraduate ODE course leavened by a modern awareness of computing and qualitative methods. The next two chapters contain a well-developed exposition of linear and nonlinear systems with a similarly fresh approach. The final two chapters cover boundary value problems, Fourier analysis, and the elementary theory of PDEs. The author makes a concerted effort to use plain language and to always start from a simple example or application. The presentation should appeal to, and be readable by, students, especially students in engineering and science. Without being excessively theoretical, the book does address a number of unusual topics: Massera's theorem, Lyapunov's inequality, the isoperimetric inequality, numerical solutions of nonlinear boundary value problems, and more. There are also some new approaches to standard topics including a rethought presentation of series solutions and a nonstandard, but more intuitive, proof of the existence and uniqueness theorem. The collection of problems is especially rich and contains many very challenging exercises. Philip Korman is professor of mathematics at the University of Cincinnati. He is the author of over one hundred research articles in differential equations and the monograph Global Solution Curves for Semilinear Elliptic Equations. Korman has served on the editorial boards of Communications on Applied Nonlinear Analysis, Electronic Journal of Differential Equations, SIAM Review, an\ d Differential Equations and Applications.

Book Abel Integral Equations

Download or read book Abel Integral Equations written by Rudolf Gorenflo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many fields of application of mathematics, progress is crucially dependent on the good flow of information between (i) theoretical mathematicians looking for applications, (ii) mathematicians working in applications in need of theory, and (iii) scientists and engineers applying mathematical models and methods. The intention of this book is to stimulate this flow of information. In the first three chapters (accessible to third year students of mathematics and physics and to mathematically interested engineers) applications of Abel integral equations are surveyed broadly including determination of potentials, stereology, seismic travel times, spectroscopy, optical fibres. In subsequent chapters (requiring some background in functional analysis) mapping properties of Abel integral operators and their relation to other integral transforms in various function spaces are investi- gated, questions of existence and uniqueness of solutions of linear and nonlinear Abel integral equations are treated, and for equations of the first kind problems of ill-posedness are discussed. Finally, some numerical methods are described. In the theoretical parts, emphasis is put on the aspects relevant to applications.

Book Coimbra Lecture Notes on Orthogonal Polynomials

Download or read book Coimbra Lecture Notes on Orthogonal Polynomials written by Amilcar Jose Pinto Lopes Branquinho and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orthogonal Polynomials and Special Functions (OPSF) have a very rich history, going back to 19th century when mathematicians and physicists tried to solve the most important deferential equations of mathematical physics. Hermite-Padé approximation was also introduced at that time, to prove the transcendence of the remarkable constant e (the basis of the natural logarithm). Since then OPSF has developed to a standard subject within mathematics, which is driven by applications. The applications are numerous, both within mathematics (e.g. statistics, combinatory, harmonic analysis, number theory) and other sciences, such as physics, biology, computer science, chemistry. The main reason for the fact that OPSF has been so successful over the centuries is its usefulness in other branches of mathematics and physics, as well as other sciences. There are many different aspects of OPSF. Some of the most important developments for OPSF are related to the theory of rational approximation of analytic functions, in particular the extension to simultaneous rational approximation to a system of functions. Important tools for rational approximation are Riemann-Hilbert problems, the theory of orthogonal polynomials, logarithmic potential theory, and operator theory for difference operators. This new book presents the latest research in the field.
