Book Astrology and Western Society from the First World War to Covid 19

Download or read book Astrology and Western Society from the First World War to Covid 19 written by William Burns and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-12 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers contributions on the topic of astrology in the West during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, from 1914–2022. It is the first collection exclusively devoted to a period that has been mostly neglected by historians of astrology, who have mostly devoted themselves to the ancient, medieval and early modern periods. Uninterested in vindicating or debunking astrology, contributors consider its cultural impact, its relation to historical events, and the ways in which it has changed in the last century. The broad range of subjects on modern Europe and the US include the relation of astrology with indigenous thought, interwar Polish astrology, and the relation of American astrologers to COVID. A bibliography of studies of modern astrology on a global basis is also included. This collection is a thoughtful contribution to the history of astrology and the sociology of belief as well as carrying significant implications for twentieth and twenty-first century history broadly.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Since the most ancient civilizations, Sumerian, Babylonian or Egyptian, we have known the zodiacal belt which travels before our eyes around the Sun due to the movement of the Earth. That magic circle was divided into twelve constellations, and it was known that they influenced our planet and the souls that inhabit it, determining characteristics and behaviors at individual and collective level. The Avatar of Aquarius, V.M. Samael Aun Weor, comes once again to separate the grain from the chaff, clarifying this knowledge, nuancing it when necessary and correcting it when the passage of time or unconsciousness has degenerated it. If the reader wants, finally, to understand the signs of the zodiac, he has in his hand the definitive answer." "Dr. Samael Aun Weor, prolific esotericist author and anthropologist, was born amidst the tribulations of a society that was succumbing to materialism and the decadence of all ethical, philosophical and transcendental values. After enormous personal sacrifices, he achieved his personal Self-Realization and dedicated his entire life and his immense work to teaching humanity the path of the true Awakening of Consciousness, traditionally known as Gnosis. Samael Aun Weor delivers, in his more than sixty works and renouncing all personal benefits, hundreds of practices and all the keys (including the Secreto Secretorum) of true esotericism in depth that allows the seeker to discover by himself the answers and experience the results, through a psychological work based on three factors: To be born (alchemically), To Die (to everything illusory) and the Sacrifice for Humanity (to pay our karmic debts). You can find more information about this unrivaled author at www.samael.org." Book Aspects in Astrology

Book excerpt: Illustrates how aspects can offer a profound depiction of an individual and his or her destiny. • Contains comprehensive sections full of interpretations for every planetary combination. • Concepts are explained through the use of actual birth charts and diagrams. • A core textbook at the Faculty of Astrological Studies in London. Aspects are an essential piece of the astrological puzzle when it comes to interpreting and using the information that astrology can give us. It is not enough to know the placement of the planets on the horoscope. It is the relationships between the stars and planets that let us grasp the destiny of the individual. Aspects describe the drama of our lives--the complex configurations that influence what will happen to us over time. Sue Tompkins, a fellow of the Faculty of Astrological Studies in London, shows how to interpret aspects when doing daily astrological readings. She uses the lives of real people to plot the aspects and offers examples of every possible planetary combination. Detailing the influence of oppositions, trines and elemental trines, and cardinal, mutable, and fixed crosses, Tompkins shows how aspects provide the energy in the chart that transforms the horoscope into something symbolizing an alive and vital human being. With Aspects in Astrology, Tompkins provides both the novice and the experienced astrologer the evidence and concrete methods needed to grasp the vast knowledge offered to us by our horoscope.

Book Sapientia Astrologica Astrology Magic and Natural Knowledge ca 1250 1800

Download or read book Sapientia Astrologica Astrology Magic and Natural Knowledge ca 1250 1800 written by H Darrel Rutkin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-24 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the changing perspective of astrology from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Era. It introduces a framework for understanding both its former centrality and its later removal from legitimate knowledge and practice. The discussion reconstructs the changing roles of astrology in Western science, theology, and culture from 1250 to 1500. The author considers both the how and the why. He analyzes and integrates a broad range of sources. This analysis shows that the history of astrology—in particular, the story of the protracted criticism and ultimate removal of astrology from the realm of legitimate knowledge and practice—is crucial for fully understanding the transition from premodern Aristotelian-Ptolemaic natural philosophy to modern Newtonian science. This removal, the author argues, was neither obvious nor unproblematic. Astrology was not some sort of magical nebulous hodge-podge of beliefs. Rather, astrology emerged in the 13th century as a richly mathematical system that served to integrate astronomy and natural philosophy, precisely the aim of the “New Science” of the 17th century. As such, it becomes a fundamentally important historical question to determine why this promising astrological synthesis was rejected in favor of a rather different mathematical natural philosophy—and one with a very different causal structure than Aristotle's.
