Book excerpt: This brief investigates the role of interference management in Heterogeneous Networks (Het Nets), focusing on cognitive approaches and the use of beamforming. Key concepts of Het Nets are introduced and different deployment strategies are examined, such as sharing the same frequency band of the macro cells or using new high frequency bands. Particular attention is devoted to co-channel deployment and to the problem of interference management, addressing various strategies that can be adopted to handle the interference between the cells. In addition, the brief explores cognitive small cells which are able to avoid or limit interference by using suitable beamforming and resource allocation schemes. The suggested solutions are supported by numerical results in terms of performance evaluations and comparisons.

Book Inter Cell Interference Coordination Techniques in HETNETS

Download or read book Inter Cell Interference Coordination Techniques in HETNETS written by Elena Rodríguez Martínez and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: [ANGLÈS] The increasing popularity of connected devices and the augmentation of users' number are boosting the mobile broadband traffic, which has grown exponentially during the last years. Also costumers' expectations are on the rise, users have come to expect a consistent, high-quality and seamless mobile broadband experience everywhere. To meet these expectations, the capacity and the coverage of the current networks need to be improved to deliver high data throughput with very low latency. Since spectrum has become a scarce resource nowadays, new ways have to be found to improve the network performance. The key options to achieve this target include improving and densifying the existing macro layer and complementing the macro layer with low power nodes; that is to say, deploying heterogeneous networks. The concept of heterogeneous networks has recently attracted considerable interest as a way to optimize the performance of the network, particularly for unequal user or traffic distribution situations. A heterogeneous network is composed of multiple radio access technologies, architectures, transmission solutions, and base stations of varying transmission power that can interoperate, thus creating a multilayer structure. Due to the different operating modes of the nodes, some of them work in open access mode but others work in closed access mode, and the unbalanced transmission power of the different base stations of the network, select the appropriate server station can be challenging for the users' equipments. A wrong cell selection process can lead to the under-utilization of low power nodes; so that, range extension technique is proposed to allow more users to be attached to low power nodes. Manage the interferences caused by the macro station to the low power nodes and vice versa is one of the biggest challenges in the deployment of heterogeneous networks. Enhanced Inter Cell Interference Coordination (eICIC) schemes have been proposed to deal with this problem. These approaches can be divided into time domain techniques, such as Almost Blank Sub-frames (ABS), and frequency domain techniques. Their implementation relays in the use of some basic characteristics of the radio access technology used in the network. This project is structured as follows: in Section 1 the concept of heterogeneous networks is defined, deepening in to the factors that have led to their apparition. Different techniques to address the major technical challenges of heterogeneous deployments are described in Section 2. In Section 3, the main techniques to deal with intra-frequency interference are introduced. Finally, one of the methods described in the previous section, the time domain technique, is explained in detail in Section 4.

Book Interference Coordination for 5G Cellular Networks

Download or read book Interference Coordination for 5G Cellular Networks written by Lu Yang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-23 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SpringerBrief presents interference coordination techniques for future 5G cellular networks. Starting with an overview of existing interference management techniques, it focuses on practical interference coordination schemes based on beamforming and user scheduling. The proposed schemes aim to deal with the inter-cell interference in multi-cell MIMO networks, cross-tier interference in device-to-device communications underlaying cellular network, and inter-network interference in cognitive radio networks. The performances of the proposed schemes are evaluated both analytically and numerically in terms of several performance parameters, including the sum rate, multiplexing gain, and outage probability of the networks. The results show that the proposed schemes can significantly reduce the effect of interference and improve the quality of service of the networks. Interference Coordination for 5G Cellular Networks is suitable for researchers and advanced students interested in interference coordination or 5G cellular networks.

Book Intercell Interference Managment in LTE A Heterogeneous Network

Download or read book Intercell Interference Managment in LTE A Heterogeneous Network written by Suman Ghimire and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frequency spectrum has become a rare resource these days; another mean is to be looked after to improve the existing wireless technology. Which gives rise to concept of Heterogeneous Network. So, LTE-A employs Heterogeneous Network which consist of several Low power nodes within one High power node. In this book, Macro eNB is a High power node and Femto eNB is a low power node. Chances of occurance of Intercell interference is high when the user is at the edge of the cell. This book focus on the interference due to the Macro eNB to the cell edge user of Femto eNB . 3GPP LTE-A Enhanced Inter-Cell Interference Coordination (eICIC) scheme has proposed Almost Blank Sub-frame (ABS) as a solution towards the intercell interference. The eICIC is able to remove the interference towards the data signal of the corresponding sub-frames of the co-channel victim Femto eNB with the help of Almost Blank Sub-frame (ABS). However, even with the usages of ABS, interference from CRSs and other physical signals still appears. This book has discussed the methodology to reduce the interference due to the collision of reference signal and demonstrated Matlab simulation results.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive summary of theoretical and practical developments in LTE Heterogeneous Networks The last decade has witnessed the proliferation of mobile broadband data and the trend is likely to increase in the coming years. Current cellular networks are ill equipped to deal with this surge in demand. To satisfy user demand and maximize profits, a new paradigm to operate networks is needed. Heterogeneous networks, that deploy an overlay of small cells with limited coverage and transmit power, over a macro coverage area is the solution by providing capacity and coverage where it is needed. This book presents a comprehensive overview of small cell based heterogeneous networks within the framework of 3GPP LTE-Advanced which is the major enabler of current and future heterogeneous networks. The book first establishes the basics of LTE standards 8 -10. Wherever relevant, the underlying theory of wireless communications is explained and the signaling and protocol aspects of LTE Releases 8-10 are presented. Next the book presents a systematic study of the inter cell interference (eICIC and FeICIC) mechanisms that have been standardized in LTE releases 10 and 11 to mitigate the interference arising in heterogeneous networks. From simple blank subframe design and implementation, the book discusses more advanced transceiver signal processing and carrier aggregation (CA) based mechanisms to improve performance. Besides data, control channel enhancements such as enhanced PDCCH (ePDCCH) are also discussed. Subsequently the book discusses the possibility of base stations being allowed to coordinate to manage interference. This technique, called CoMP, has the potential of vastly improving network performance. However several practical challenges first have to be overcome before this potential can be realized. The book presents the different CoMP categories introduced in LTE release 11, the required signal processing and the changes that were introduced in Release-11 for supporting CoMP. The book then presents the state of the art developments in heterogeneous networks that are currently taking place in 3GPP with the initiation of Release 12. A whole array of new technologies have been introduced such as dynamic switching of small cells, new carrier types with reduced control signaling, dynamic reconfiguration of TDD-LTE, joint configuration of TDD and FDD via carrier aggregation and lastly advanced MIMO signal processing with three dimensional beamforming. All these technologies will work in unison leading to efficient operations of small cells. The authors thus comprehensively summarize the advances in heterogeneous networks over the last couple of years as reflected in various LTE releases and then look ahead at what to expect in the future.
