Book excerpt: An inevitable guide, a unique concept Between pleasure and emotion Even if it is first the fruit of an ever more rigorous selection, in total independence, this Champagnes Guide is above all an essential book that accompanies the amateur of Champagnes in his discovery of the infinite wealth of the Champagne area through the 107 selected cuvées . The VERON Champagnes Guide takes you into its unlimited quest of the fabulous diversity of the Champagne area and invites you to penetrate the secrets of the creation of the cuvées , traditional Champagnes, extraordinary gems, inevitable classics or prestigious Champagnes. The aim is certainly not to judge the selected Champagne, but rather to grasp, to understand the technical, viticultural and oenological approach, the philosophy, the intuition that guided its producer. The VERON Champagnes Guide therefore abstains from marking and ranking. It is also an opportunity for a real initiatory route through the Champagne area for the students of the Lycée Viticole de la Champagne, future Champagne professionals, who take part in selection tastings. While the hillsides, Houses and wine cellars of Champagne are just entering into the UNESCO World Heritage, the objective is ambitious : to put the Champagne back in its proper place, the one of a real cultural and gastronomic French and global heritage. Realized by Michel VERON in Champagne, oenologist and oenology teacher at Lycée Viticole de la Champagne since 1991, this book, available in French and in English, is the fruit of his passion for the tasting of Champagnes, of his long experience enriched by many exchanges with the Champagne makers and of his thirst for discovery : “Every explorer knows it, the most exciting is what is left to discover” Doctor Sylvestre Maurice – Astrophysicist.

Book Islam and the Governing of Muslims in France

Download or read book Islam and the Governing of Muslims in France written by Frank Peter and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-01-28 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will Islam be able to adapt to France's secularity and its strict separation of public and private spheres? Can France accommodate Muslims? In this book, Frank Peter argues that the debate about “Islam” and “Muslims” is not simply caused by ignorance or Islamophobia. Rather, it is an integral part of how secularism is reasoned. Islam and the Governing of Muslims in France shows that understanding religion as separate from other aspects of life, such as politics, economy, and culture, disregards the ways religion has operated and been managed in “secular” societies such as France. This book uncovers the varying rationalities of the secular that have developed over the past few decades in France to “govern Islam,” in order to examine how Muslims engage with the secular regime and contribute to its transformation. This book offers a close analysis of French secularism as it has been debated by Islamic intellectuals and activists from the 1990s until the present. It will influence the study of secularism as well as the study of Islam in the French Republic, and reveal new connections between Islamic traditions and secular rationalities.

Book What are Coincidences A Philosophical Guide Between Science and Common Sense

Download or read book What are Coincidences A Philosophical Guide Between Science and Common Sense written by Alessandra Melas and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2023-10-17 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a common opinion that chance events cannot be understood in causal terms. Conversely, according to a causal view of chance, intersections between independent causal chains originate accidental events, called “coincidences”. Firstly, this book explores this causal conception of chance and tries to shed new light on it. Such a view has been defended by authors like Antoine Augustine Cournot and Jacques Monod. Second, a relevant alternative is provided by those accounts that, instead of acknowledging an intersection among causal lines, claim to track coincidences back to some common cause. Third, starting from Herbert Hart and Anthony Honoré’s view of coincidences (Causation in the Law. Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1959). This book provides a more detailed account of coincidences, according to which coincidental events are hybrids constituted by ontic (physical) components, which is the intersection between independent causal chains, plus epistemic aspects, including but not limited to, access to information, expectations, relevance, significance, desires, which in turn are psychological aspects. The main target of the present work is to show that the epistemic aspects of coincidences are, together with the independence between the intersecting causal chains, a constitutive part of coincidental phenomena. This book aims to introduce and discuss recent work in psychology concerning one’s judgment about coincidences; this data offers further materials and reasons to reflect upon our understanding of coincidences and to refine our hybrid conception.
