Book The Europeanization of National Foreign Policies towards Latin America

Download or read book The Europeanization of National Foreign Policies towards Latin America written by Lorena Ruano and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-07 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who shapes the European Union’s policy towards Latin America? How has this EU policy modified individual member states’ relations with the region? This book provides a comparative account of seven member states’ bilateral links with Latin America since 1945, in the context of their EU membership and based on the concept of ‘Europeanization’. It illustrates how and why the main architects of this EU policy have been Spain and Germany. In contrast, Poland, Sweden and Ireland, which had little previous interaction with Latin America, have developed their current relations with that region virtually as a result of their EU membership. The United Kingdom and France lie in the middle: they have been influential in certain policy-areas and key periods in history, while they have adapted to what is done at the EU level in others. Practitioners, established academic experts as well emerging scholars in the field bring to be bear a novel combination of pioneering research and cutting edge conceptual analysis on this important but neglected area of the EU’s foreign relations.

Book Cultural Analysis

Download or read book Cultural Analysis written by Hans Gullestrup and published by Copenhagen Business School Press DK. This book was released on 2006 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With internationalization, the world is becoming smaller and the opportunity to meet people from other countries and cultures is becoming more common, providing the need for cooperation, shared knowledge, and cross-border trade. Individual cultures tend to understand themselves best and base their understanding of the world and its peoples on ideas they each have come to believe irrespective of reality, and thus make it difficult to reach a proper understanding of other cultures. This book considers intercultural understanding and co-action, partly by means of general insights into the concept of culture and the dimensions which bring about cultural differences, and partly as a methodology to analyze a certain culture - whether one's own or others'. This leads towards an understanding of cultural complexity and cultural differences among people. The book provides a discussion of a number of ethical issues, which almost invariably will arise when people meet and co-act across cultural boundaries. Cultural Analysis offers a theoretical/abstract proposal for cultural understanding, intercultural plurality, and complexity.

Book Reflections On International Relations Politics History Law

Download or read book Reflections On International Relations Politics History Law written by Nesrin Kenar and published by IJOPEC PUBLICATION. This book was released on 2019-12-18 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does social science matter? Yes. Why does social science matter? It provides humans with knowledge, in form of research and theory, that allows us to understand our surroundings and how the social realm works. In addition to the theoretical and empirical understanding of the social realm, social science allows us to anticipate and shape aspects of future social developments and outcomes – e.g., demography and human security and social unrests; or actions and potential reactions between and among individuals, state-actors and non-state actors and their implication on the social realm. Thus, social science matters due to its canon of knowledge which empowers humans with tools to not just understand the social realm but also mediate in social dynamics and suggest policy reforms. Humans keen on the social science develop practical skills, distinctly valued in all forms of social dynamics. For instance, individuals can understand their social surroundings, assess decisions they attempt to make and such which political leadership conducts on their behalf. Without our knowledge in social science our understanding of the social realm is less complete and our objectivity is less robust. This book provides a platform for readers, scholars, and for practitioners to learn about present trends and debates in Social Sciences, und conduct creative and fresh (interdisciplinary) research; to discuss common encounters, and brainstorm innovative solutions. This book includes Twelve chapters which are divided into four sections related to the disciplines of International Relations, Politics, History, and Law. The chapters are written with different depth and quality; they demonstrate the validity which the social science can stimulate our understanding and anticipation of our world.
