Book LATETITISATION PROCESSES AT MANGALAGIRI AND SURROUNDING AREAS OF ANDHRA PRADESH

Download or read book LATETITISATION PROCESSES AT MANGALAGIRI AND SURROUNDING AREAS OF ANDHRA PRADESH written by A. A. JAYARAJ and published by Laxmi Book Publication. This book was released on 2023-11-25 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laterite deposits are known to occur extensively on Indian Peninsula having derived from varied geological formations of different ages. These deposits are derived from khondalite and Charnockite groups of rocks in the Eastern Ghats, granite gneisses in Karnataka, Vindhyan sandstones in Utter Pradesh, Deccan Trap basalts in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharastara, Gondwana sand stones in Madhya Pradesh, Sirban lime stones in Jammu and clastic sediments in Gujarat. Laterite deposits associating with all these rock types occur as cappings or blankets. Laterites associated with a particular geological formation show compositional variation with altitude. Enrichment of aluminium generally takes place on the broad topped and gently sloped hills, whereas enrichment of iron on slopes of hills and on plain areas, even though the process of lateritisation has taken place on the same type of rock and in the same climatic zone on mega scale. The iron-rich laterites confined to a specific altitudinal range in the study area has led the author to make thorough investigation on these laterite deposits with reference to their mode of occurrence, mineralogy, mineral alteration, geochemical behavior of elements and various other processes that are in operation during lateritisation.

Book excerpt: Palaeosurfaces is an area where geologists and geomorphologists can combine their expertise to provide a more holistic treatment of the processes that helped shape the face of the Earth. This volume presents a cross-disciplinary study of the evolution, reconstruction and palaeoevironmental interpretation of ancient paleosurfaces. Topics include palaeoenvironmental studies involving lateritization and bauxitization, palaeokarstification, geochemistry of rock alteration and the identification of ancient palaeosurface elements in both glaciated and tropical terrains.

Book New Trends in Soil Micromorphology

Download or read book New Trends in Soil Micromorphology written by Selim Kapur and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-17 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The soil water retention curve, the saturated hydraulic conductivity and the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity function are basic soil hydraulic functions and parameters. Ample apprehension of the soil hydraulic functions and parameters is required for a successful formulation of the principles leading to sustainable soil management, agricultural production and environmental protection. From these, all the other parameters, required in the solution of the practical tasks, are derived. The basic soil hydraulic functions are strongly dependent upon the soil porous system. The development of models is characteristic by the gradual transition from the simplest concepts up to the sophisticated approaches, which should correspond to the visual reality studied by soil micromorphology. 2 Soil Porous System and Soil Micromorphometry 2.1 An Overview on the Quantification of the Soil Porous System Quanti? cation of the soil porous system consists of classi? cation of soil pores, ch- acterization of the soil pores shapes and the estimation of the pore size distribution function. When the hydraulic functions of the soil pores are considered, the following laws of hydrostatics and hydrodynamics are applied as best ? tting to the classi? cation criteria of the size of the pores (Kutilek and Nielsen 1994, p. 20, Kutilek 2004): A. Submicroscopic pores that are so small that they preclude clusters of water molecules from forming ? uid particles or continuous water ? ow paths.

Book Laterites of the Bengal Basin

Download or read book Laterites of the Bengal Basin written by Sandipan Ghosh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-24 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Brief analyses and discusses the laterites in the Bengal Basin. The book highlights: (1) the definition, identification and classification of ferruginous materials, (2) the mode of laterite formation and its other horizons, (3) processes and theories of lateritisation, (4) determination of laterite ages, (5) recognition of palaeogeomorphic and palaeoclimatic significance and (6) geo-chronology and reconstruction of former lateritized landscapes. The chapters cover the tectono-climatic evolution of north-south laterite profiles of the north-western Bengal Basin on the Rajmahal Basalt Traps, Archean Granite-Gneiss, Gondwana Sandstones, Palaeogene Gravels and Older Palaeo-Deltaic Alluvium. The book uses advanced field-based studies, quantitative analysis and thematic mapping to cover various areas of palaeogeography and regolith geology of the Bengal Basin in connection with laterite genesis, palaeoweathering, tectonic geomorphology, Quaternary geomorphology and pedogeomorphology. It introduces laterites as a potential stratigraphic marker in Indian geology by explaining their palaeogeomorphic and palaeoclimatic significance. This Brief is a comprehensive resource to researchers, students and academicians of geography, geomorphology and geology working on laterites.

Book Subsoil Constraints for Crop Production

Download or read book Subsoil Constraints for Crop Production written by Teogenes Senna de Oliveira and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-03 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will address the major subsoil physical and chemical constraints and their implications to crop production; Plant growth is often restricted by adverse physical and chemical properties of subsoils yet these limitations are not revealed by testing surface soils and hence their significance in crop management is often overlooked. The major constraints can be physical or chemical. Physical limitations such as poor/nil subsoil structure, sandy subsoils that do not provide adequate water or gravelly subsoils and, etc. On the other hand, chemical constraints include acidity/alkalinity, high extractable Al or Mn, low nutrient availability, salts, boron toxicity and pyritic subsoils. Some of these constraints are inherent properties of the soil profile while others are induced by crop and soil management practices. This aim of this book is to define the constraints and discuss amelioration practices and benefits for crop production. This book will be of interest to readers involved with agriculture and soil sciences in laboratory, applied or classroom settings.
