Download or read book Laser Wakefield Electron Acceleration written by Karl Schmid and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-05-18 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis covers the few-cycle laser-driven acceleration of electrons in a laser-generated plasma. This process, known as laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA), relies on strongly driven plasma waves for the generation of accelerating gradients in the vicinity of several 100 GV/m, a value four orders of magnitude larger than that attainable by conventional accelerators. This thesis demonstrates that laser pulses with an ultrashort duration of 8 fs and a peak power of 6 TW allow the production of electron energies up to 50 MeV via LWFA. The special properties of laser accelerated electron pulses, namely the ultrashort pulse duration, the high brilliance, and the high charge density, open up new possibilities in many applications of these electron beams.
Download or read book Laser Matter Interaction for Radiation and Energy written by Hitendra K. Malik and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-03-15 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interaction of high-power lasers with matter can generate Terahertz radiations that efficiently contribute to THz Time-Domain Spectroscopy and also would replace X-rays in medical and security applications. When a short intense laser pulse ionizes a gas, it may produce new frequencies even in VUV to XUV domain. The duration of XUV pulses can be confined down to the isolated attosecond pulse levels, required to study the electronic re-arrangement and ultrafast processes. Another important aspect of laser-matter interaction is the laser thermonuclear fusion control where accelerated particles also find an efficient use. This book provides comprehensive coverage of the most essential topics, including Electromagnetic waves and lasers THz radiation using semiconducting materials / nanostructures / gases / plasmas Surface plasmon resonance THz radiation detection Particle acceleration technologies X-ray lasers High harmonics and attosecond lasers Laser based techniques of thermonuclear fusion Controlled fusion devices including NIF and ITER The book comprises of 11 chapters and every chapter starts with a lucid introduction to the main topic. Then sub-topics are sedulously discussed keeping in mind their basics, methodology, state-of-the-art and future perspective that will prove to be salutary for readers. High quality solved examples are appended to the chapters for their deep understanding and relevant applications. In view of the nature of the topics and their level of discussion, this book is expected to have pre-eminent potential for researchers along with postgraduate and undergraduate students all over the world.

Download or read book High Power Laser Plasma Interaction written by C. S. Liu and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-23 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of high-power laser-plasma interaction has grown in the last few decades, with applications ranging from laser-driven fusion and laser acceleration of charged particles to laser ablation of materials. This comprehensive text covers fundamental concepts including electromagnetics and electrostatic waves, parameter instabilities, laser driven fusion, charged particle acceleration and gamma rays. Two important techniques of laser proton interactions including target normal sheath acceleration (TNSA) and radiation pressure acceleration (RPA) are discussed in detail, along with their applications in the field of medicine. An analytical framework is developed for laser beat-wave and wakefield excitation of plasma waves and subsequent acceleration of electrons. The book covers parametric oscillator model and studies the coupling of laser light with collective modes.

Download or read book Ultra fast Material Metrology written by Alexander Horn and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-07-30 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first to describe novel measurement techniques of processes during laser-matter interaction using ultra-fast lasers. Targeted at both engineers and physicists, initial chapters address the working tools, the history of laser ultra-fast metrology, an overview of ultra-fast laser sources, and the fundamentals of laser radiation-matter interaction. Ultra-fast laser radiation is discussed in chapter 4, while further chapters describe the methodology of pump and probe in practice, as well as applications for pump and probe metrology in engineering, including spectroscopy and imaging techniques. Chapter 7 describes the perspectives for this new field of research and predicts the metrology of the future, showing new potential applications of laser sources and new detectors in combination with improved pump and probe methods.
Download or read book Short Pulse Laser Interactions With Matter An Introduction written by Paul Gibbon and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005-09-05 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the first comprehensive treatment of the subject, covering the theoretical principles, present experimental status and important applications of short-pulse laser-matter interactions.Femtosecond lasers have undergone dramatic technological advances over the last fifteen years, generating a whole host of new research activities under the theme of “ultrafast science”. The focused light from these devices is so intense that ordinary matter is torn apart within a few laser cycles. This book takes a close-up look at the exotic physical phenomena which arise as a result of this new form of “light-matter” interaction, covering a diverse set of topics including multiphoton ionization, rapid heatwaves, fast particle generation and relativistic self-channeling. These processes are central to a number of exciting new applications in other fields, such as microholography, optical particle accelerators and photonuclear physics.Repository for numerical models described in Chapter 6 can be found at www.fz-juelich.de/zam/cams/plasma/SPLIM/./a

This book was released on 1999-05-31 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume comprises the proceedings of the 8th Joint School on accelerator physics. On this occasion, the US, CERN, Japan and Russia Particle Accelerator Schools collaborated to present the topic of “Beam Measurements”. The aim was to provide an introduction to the principles of beam dynamics and measurements in circular particle accelerators. This was achieved by a series of lectures under the headings of “single-particle dynamics”, “multi-particle dynamics” and then “beam measurements”, along with practical courses on feedback and signal processing, maps and (no) simulations, practical diagnostic measurements, and spectrum and network analyzers. The resulting proceedings represent a unique summary of the currently available knowledge on beam measurements applied to circular particle accelerators.
