Book Digitalization of design for support structures in laser powder bed fusion of metals

Download or read book Digitalization of design for support structures in laser powder bed fusion of metals written by Katharina Bartsch and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-18 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Additive manufacturing is considered a key technology for digital production. However, several barriers towards the broad industrial application exist, e.g. the associated cost and the required experience regarding the manufacturing process. To eradicate these barriers, the complete digitalization of the value creation process is needed. In this thesis, a digital, automated support structuredesign procedure is developed. Topology optimization is used for design rule determination, and the space colonization algorithm is adapted for the automated design. The validity of the procedure is proven experimentally, revealing sufficient mechanical performance alongside cost reduction at medium to large production scales.

Book Laser Cladding

Download or read book Laser Cladding written by Ehsan Toyserkani and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-08-12 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capitalizing on the rapid growth and reduced costs of laser systems, laser cladding is gaining momentum, and in some instances replacing conventional techniques of depositing thin films because it can accommodate a great variety of materials, achieve uniform thickness and precise widths of layers, and provide improved resistance to wear and corrosion in the final product. Laser cladding technology also offers a revolutionary layered manufacturing and prototyping technique that can fabricate complex components without intermediate steps. Laser Cladding reviews the parameters, techniques and equipment, process modeling and control, and the physical metallurgy of alloying and solidification during laser cladding. The authors clarify the interconnections laser cladding has with CAD/CAM design; automation and robotics; sensors, feedback, and control; physics, material science, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and powder metallurgy to promote further development and improved process quality of this growing technology. As the first book entirely dedicated to the topic, it also offers a history of its development and a guide to applications and market opportunities. While a considerable part of Laser Cladding is dedicated to industrial applications, this volume brings together valuable information illustrated with real case studies based on the authors' vast experience, and research and analysis in the field to provide a timely source for both academia and industry.

Book Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry Based on Nanophotonic Structure From Material Design to Mechanistic Understanding

Download or read book Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry Based on Nanophotonic Structure From Material Design to Mechanistic Understanding written by Moon-Ju Kim and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-11 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents innovative laser desorption ionization (LDI)-active nanophotonic structures for addressing the challenges that matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) is currently facing and for enhancing LDI efficiency. It presents a variety of cutting-edge nanophotonic structures to satisfy the mass-analytical needs of sensitivity, reproducibility, and quantification. As opposed to the commercialized, conventional organic matrix used in MALDI-MS, these nanostructures are validated to be highly effective in detecting small metabolites and drugs, highlighting their considerable potential in the mass spectrometry field. It also systematically elucidates fundamental LDI processes in terms of the photo-thermal, electronic, and structural characteristics of nanophotonic structures, offering mechanistic knowledge of LDI-MS. Even though LDI-MS performance is heavily influenced by a number of nanostructure parameters, relatively little is known about the LDI processes associated with those characteristics. An in-depth understanding of nanostructure characteristics and LDI mechanisms thus paves the way for more effective, rational design and development of nanostructures with improved LDI capabilities. Further, with a focus on multiple cascades in nanostructure functions in response to laser pulse stimuli, this book provides detailed, step-by-step procedures to design and construct a nanophotonic, LDI-active platform, which may serve as a roadmap for graduate students in the field of mass spectrometry. Readers, including graduate students, researchers, and experts working in the related areas of mass spectrometry, nanophotonics, and material science and material engineering, will find a wealth of useful information in this book.
