Book Landowner Perceptions and Management of Florida s Hardwood Forests

Download or read book Landowner Perceptions and Management of Florida s Hardwood Forests written by Brian Hinton and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most respondents would not change from pine management to hardwood management even if the value were above pine. Most respondents who had sold hardwood were unwilling to harvest hardwood for timber. Further, most respondents lacked a written management plan which could improve hardwood management even if timber is not an objective. Aesthetic beauty, environmental benefits, and wildlife values are all reasons to manage hardwood forests. Results show that hardwood forestry in Florida has potential, and advancement lies with improved stumpage prices for private forest landowners, a willingness to perform multiple use management, the use of alternative markets, and an improved knowledge base of hardwood forestry.

Book Ecological Restoration and Management of Longleaf Pine Forests

Download or read book Ecological Restoration and Management of Longleaf Pine Forests written by L. Katherine Kirkman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-09-27 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecological Restoration and Management of Longleaf Pine Forests is a timely synthesis of the current understanding of the natural dynamics and processes in longleaf pine ecosystems. This book beautifully illustrates how incorporation of basic ecosystem knowledge and an understanding of socioeconomic realities shed new light on established paradigms and their application for restoration and management. Unique for its holistic ecological focus, rather than a more traditional silvicultural approach, the book highlights the importance of multi-faceted actions that robustly integrate forest and wildlife conservation at landscape scales, and merge ecological with socioeconomic objectives for effective conservation of the longleaf pine ecosystem.

Book Wood Energy in Developed Economies

Download or read book Wood Energy in Developed Economies written by Francisco X. Aguilar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-08-27 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a recent resurgence of interest in wood energy as part of a sustainable range of renewable energy options. This book addresses the current gap in the energy and public policy literature for a reference book that compiles the most-recent wood energy assessments, and evaluates current and potential future wood energy uses and the role for public policy to foster efficient use of the most-widely consumed renewable energy in the world. It brings together a group of expert authors covering topics from forest management, operations and engineering, to socio-economics and energy policy perspectives. It thus covers practical issues such as silviculture, harvesting, processing, comparative cost estimates, public policy tools and market effects. As such the book provides a comprehensive review of the complex dimensions of wood energy as well as practical guidance for professionals, researchers and advanced students. It will also provide invaluable guidance for economic development agencies, practitioners and policy-makers, when evaluating the impacts of wider wood energy adoption as part of a strategy for sustainable energy generation. The main focus is on industrialised production and developed economies, particularly the USA and Europe.

Book Handbook of Forest Resource Economics

Download or read book Handbook of Forest Resource Economics written by Shashi Kant and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-03 with total page 825 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is increasingly recognized that the economic value of forests is not merely the production of timber. Forests provide other key ecosystem services, such as being sinks for greenhouse gases, hotspots of biodiversity, tourism and recreation. They are also vitally important in preventing soil erosion and controlling water supplies, as well as providing non-timber forest products and supporting the livelihoods of many local people. This handbook provides a detailed, comprehensive and broad coverage of forest economics, including traditional forest economics of timber production, economics of environmental role of forests, and recent developments in forest economics. The chapters are grouped into six parts: fundamental topics in forest resource economics; economics of forest ecosystems; economics of forests, climate change, and bioenergy; economics of risk, uncertainty, and natural disturbances; economics of forest property rights and certification; and emerging issues and developments. Written by leading environmental, forest, and natural resource economists, the book represents a definitive reference volume for students of economics, environment, forestry and natural resource economics and management.
