Book Collective Housing

Download or read book Collective Housing written by and published by TC Cuadernos. This book was released on 2018-02-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a selection of 83 collective housing works carried out in Spain between 1929 and 1992. It offers a detailed version of the residence projected in Spain between the Barcelona International Exhibition of 1929 and the Universal Exhibition of Seville in 1992. Two particularly significant dates, two points of inflection in architectural thought: the enthronement and the epilogue of modernity. It contains plans of all buildings redrawn and with different scales depending on whether it is the urban implementation, the definition of the block or the description of the types, with photos of the time and cards with the main data of each project and its Author. The research process reconstructs the evolution of the project to extract its main values as a tool for the city and contemporary housing. An essential book to know the evolution of housing in our country, assessing its character as a modern heritage or to create projective criteria applicable to the contemporary housing model. Bilingual edition: Spanish & English

Book Auge y crisis de la vivienda en Espa a

Download or read book Auge y crisis de la vivienda en Espa a written by Seminari d'economia crítica Taifa and published by Seminari d'economia crítica Taifa. This book was released on 2008 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book House Purchase Versus Rental in Spain

Download or read book House Purchase Versus Rental in Spain written by Eva Ortega Eslava and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Comfort and Domestic Space in Modern Spain

Download or read book Comfort and Domestic Space in Modern Spain written by Professor Susan Larson and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2024-08-30 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comfort and domestic space are complex narratives that can help draw our attention to everything from urban planning, everyday objects, and new technologies to class conflict, racial and ethnic segregation, and the gendering of domestic labour. Comfort and Domestic Space in Modern Spain delves into the history of ideas surrounding the modern home. It explores how the collective experience of domestic space has been shaped by government ideologues, technocrats, and artists as well as working- and middle-class Spaniards since the late nineteenth century. The book focuses on the social and cultural meanings of domestic space in ways that invite us to cross boundaries between private and public, the particular and the general, the local and the global, and to pay attention to the role of the cultural imagination in making a house into a home. Considering a wide variety of voices and perspectives that have resulted in new ideas about how to inhabit domestic space, Comfort and Domestic Space in Modern Spain brings together an international, interdisciplinary group of scholars to illuminate the cultural history of everyday life.

Book Urban Transformations Centres Peripheries and Systems

Download or read book Urban Transformations Centres Peripheries and Systems written by Daniel P. O'Donoghue and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-11 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Definitions of urban entities and urban typologies are changing constantly to reflect the growing physical extent of cities and their hinterlands. These include suburbs, sprawl, edge cities, gated communities, conurbations and networks of places and such transformations cause conflict between central and peripheral areas at a range of spatial scales. This book explores the role of cities, their influence and the transformations they have undertaken in the recent past. Ways in which cities regenerate, how plans change, how they are governed and how they react to the economic realities of the day are all explored. Concepts such as polycentricity are explored to highlight the fact that cities are part of wider regions and the study of urban geography in the future needs to be cognisant of changing relationships within and between cities. Bringing together studies from around the world at different scales, from small town to megacity, this volume captures a snapshot of some of the changes in city centres, suburbs, and the wider urban region. In doing so, it provides a deeper understanding of the evolving form and function of cities and their associated peripheral regions as well as their impact on modern twenty-first century landscapes.

Book The Routledge Handbook of Housing and Welfare

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Housing and Welfare written by Martin Grander and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-22 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook takes on one of the most pressing issues of today’s society – the question of housing. It is a cutting-edge edited volume about the disputed interrelationship between housing and the wider welfare state. Although housing scholars generally agree that housing should be regarded as part of such a wider welfare system, it has proven hard to pinpoint and operationalize its position within it. Moreover, the relationship became considerably more complex as a result of the period of intense globalization and the integration of national housing finance systems into world finance markets. Furthermore, welfare systems reflect economic as well as social models and these, too, have changed as countries have responded to globalization, and traditional ideological frameworks have become less distinct. Thus, there is a need to redefine the connection between housing and welfare in light of changes in both welfare and housing systems. By investigating the current situation and historical development of housing provision and welfare distribution in different contexts worldwide, this book aims to contribute to an expanded understanding of housing and welfare. The book brings together 25 international housing researchers covering 15 countries worldwide. With such a global approach, the book aims to provide an updated empirical picture and analysis of different housing systems and their connection to the welfare regime in different national contexts. The book moves beyond the usual focus on affordable housing provision in the context of well-developed welfare regimes and includes countries from the global south, incorporating regions where it is debatable whether there are welfare systems present at all. Thus, the book aims to provide the reader with an insight into the large differences in housing provision in international contexts with large differences regarding how the welfare state is comprised. From these insights, we reflect on whether regime approaches continue to provide a suitable theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between housing and the wider welfare state. This handbook is essential reading for researchers, students, policymakers, and other professionals in the fields of housing studies, welfare studies, economics, urban studies, social work, social and public policy, and sociology.

Book Urban Challenges in Spain and Portugal

Download or read book Urban Challenges in Spain and Portugal written by Nuria Benach and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary cities in the Iberian Peninsula have gone through a period of dramatic changes during the last decade. A period of upward economic indicators and massive urbanization was followed by a tremendous financial crash in 2007 that sank Spanish and Portuguese societies into a profound crisis. That period of massive urbanization has been explained by several factors: the availability of financial capital that was speculatively invested in real-estate, a rather sympathetic land use regulation, and the real or perceived social mobility by most social groups which included housing acquisition enabled by unusual credit facilities. In this book we aim to show several different aspects of this process both in Portugal and Spanish cities, problematizing the economic and social consequences of such a model of urban and economic growth and also presenting some policy and governance outcomes that took place along the last decade. This book was published as a special issue of Urban Research and Practice.

Book Youth in Transition

Download or read book Youth in Transition written by Teresa Jurado Guerrero and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2002: In recent years there has been a trend among young people across Europe towards remaining longer in their parental homes. Many reasons have been suggested for this change in demographic patterns, but Teresa Jurado Guerrero’s study of France and Spain represents the first in-depth cross-national analysis of this important social and economic issue. The book provides systematic comparisons of living arrangements at cross-national, cross-regional and individual levels and examines the results of two large-scale national surveys. It investigates the relevance of young people’s employment situations, social policies related to youth, national and regional housing markets and family norms, and identifies policy measures which would encourage early home-leaving and family formation. The book exposes the existence and effects of different national and individual strategies surrounding the process of becoming socially independent, and offers unique insights into an issue of key relevance for parents, young people, researchers and policy makers.

Book Global Housing Markets

Download or read book Global Housing Markets written by Ashok Bardhan and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-10-27 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A global look at the reasons behind the recent economic collapse, and the responses to it The speculative bubble in the housing market began to burst in the United States in 2007, and has been followed by ruptures in virtually every asset market in almost every country in the world. Each country proposed a range of policy initiatives to deal with its crisis. Policies that focused upon stabilizing the housing market formed the cornerstone of many of these proposals. This internationally focused book evaluates the genesis of the housing market bubble, the global viral contagion of the crisis, and the policy initiatives undertaken in some of the major economies of the world to counteract its disastrous affects. Unlike other books on the global crisis, this guide deals with the housing sector in addition to the financial sector of individual economies. Countries in many parts of the world were players in either the financial bubble or the housing bubble, or both, but the degree of impact, outcome, and responses varied widely. This is an appropriate time to pull together the lessons from these various experiences. Reveals the housing crisis in the United States as the core of the meltdown Describes the evolution of housing markets and policies in the run-up to the crisis, their impacts, and the responses in European and Asian countries Compares experiences and linkages across countries and points to policy implications and research lessons drawn from these experiences Filled with the insights of well-known contributors with strong contacts in practice and academia, this timely guide discusses the history and evolution of the recent crisis as local to each contributor's part of the world, and examines its distinctive and common features with that of the U.S., the trajectory of its evolution, and the similarities and differences in policy response.

Book Top Incomes

Download or read book Top Incomes written by A. B. Atkinson and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2010-04-01 with total page 984 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rapidly growing area of economic research investigates the top of the income distribution using data from income tax records. This volume brings together studies of top incomes for twelve countries from around the world, including China, India, Japan, Argentina and Indonesia. Together with the first volume, published in 2007, the studies cover twenty two countries. They have a long time span, the earliest data relating to 1875 (for Norway), allowing recent developments to be placed in historical perspective. The volume describes in detail the source data and the methods employed. It will be an invaluable reference source for researchers in the field. Individual country chapters deal with the specific nature of the data for each of the countries, and describe the long-term evolution of top income shares. In the countries as a whole, dramatic changes have taken place at the top of the income distribution. Over the first part of the century, top income shares fell markedly. This largely took the form of a reduction in capital incomes. The different authors examine the impact of the First and Second World Wars, contrasting countries that were and were not engaged. They consider the impact of depressions and banking crises, and pay particular attention to the impact of progressive taxation. In the last 30 years, the shares of top incomes have increased markedly in the US and other Anglo-Saxon countries, reflecting the increased dispersion of earnings. The volume includes statistics on the much-discussed top pay and bonuses, providing a global perspective that discusses important differences between countries such as the lesser increase in Continental Europe. This book, together with volume 1, documents this interesting development and explores the underlying causes. The findings are brought together in a final summary chapter by Atkinson, Piketty and Saez.
