Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queer God de Amor explores the mystery of God and the relationship between divine and human persons. It does so by turning to the sixteenth-century writings of John of the Cross on mystical union with God and the metaphor of sexual relationship that he uses to describe this union. Juan’s mystical theology, which highlights the notion of God as lover and God’s erotic-like relationship with human persons, provides a fitting source for rethinking the Christian doctrine of God, in John’s own words, as “un no sé qué,” “an I know not what.” In critical conversations with contemporary queer theologies, it retrieves from John a preferential option for human sexuality as an experience in daily life that is rich with possibilities for re-sourcing and imagining the Christian doctrine of God. Consistent with other liberating perspectives, it outs God from heteronormative closets and restores human sexuality as a resource for theology. This outing of divine queerness—that is, the ineffability of divine life—helps to align reflections on the mystery of God with the faith experiences of queer Catholics. By engaging Juan de la Cruz through queer Latinx eyes, Miguel Díaz continues the objective of this series to disrupt the cartography of theology latinamente.

Book The Complete Works of Elizabeth of the Trinity volume 2

Download or read book The Complete Works of Elizabeth of the Trinity volume 2 written by Elizabeth of the Trinity (Catez) and published by ICS Publications. This book was released on 2014-06-09 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity (Elizabeth Catez) is a mystic of our times, who entered Carmel in 1901 at the age of twenty-one, and died there five years later. Her biblical spirituality, based on the epistles of her "dear Saint Paul" and the mystery of the divine indwelling, has inspired countless Christians. This second of three volumes of her Complete Works contains all of Elizabeth's surviving letters from Carmel, along with 8 photos. In simple and tender language, writing to friends and family, Elizabeth returns again and again to the great themes of her spirituality: the indwelling Trinity, silence and solitude, living by love, becoming a "praise of glory" (laudem gloriae) by sharing in the dying and rising of Jesus Christ. Here too we find many of her best-known sayings, e.g., "I have found my heaven on earth, for heaven is God, and God is in my soul." In his introductions and careful notes, Father Conrad De Meester, O.C.D., explains the background of each of Elizabeth's letters from Carmel, most of which have never before appeared in English. Anne Englund Nash continues the style set in the first volume of the Complete Works, presenting a translation that reflects both the literary nuances and spirit of the original French texts.

Book LA LOI DE DIEU LOI DE BONHEUR

Download or read book LA LOI DE DIEU LOI DE BONHEUR written by Paulette Leblanc and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-11-17 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Ecstasy Beyond Knowing

Download or read book The Ecstasy Beyond Knowing written by Pir Vilayat inayat Khan and published by New Leaf Distribution. This book was released on 2014 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ecstasy Beyond Knowing represents the distilled wisdom of Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan’s long lifetime of spiritual seeking and experiences, his dialogues and deep friendships with other mystics and spiritual teachers, and his explorations into the nature of reality with scientists and philosophers.Meditation techniques are explained in detail along with the principles behind them, including practices with breath, light, energy, sound and mantram, inspired visualizations, and the Sufi dhikr. The Sufi process and stages of transformation are interwoven with those of Hinduism, Buddhism, the Jewish Kabbalah, the glorification of the Christian Mass, and the alchemical process of self-transfiguration. The height, depth and breadth of mystical experiences are integrated with the insights of psychology and contemporary scientific discoveries, and the creativity inherent in all human nature is invoked to aid in transforming and beautifying the personality as well as the world. Pir Vilayat reveals the way to develop a deep connection with the soul and spirit, and offers advice on maintaining the awareness and integrity of that connection through the joys and sorrows, challenges and adventures of everyday life. “Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan’s Ecstasy Beyond Knowing is a unique and monumental guidebook, the fruit of a lifetime’s experience in teaching and guiding meditation for the most diverse audiences around the world. It is at once a comprehensive practical handbook for meditation, covering such basic subjects as working with the breath, sound, and levels of consciousness; a wide-ranging comparative study of interpretive and theoretical accounts of meditation in Sufi, Hindu, Buddhist and Kabbalistic traditions; and an insightful, suggestive guide for the integration of one’s meditation practice in the wider processes and stages of individual spiritual growth.” Professor James W. Morris, Boston College

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE SPIRITUAL LIFE: A TREATISE ON ASCETICAL AND MYSTICAL THEOLOGY REVEREND ADOLPHE TANQUEREY — A Catholic Classic! — Two Parts of Four Books in One — Includes 1,773 Active Linked Footnotes — Includes Active Linked Headings, Index and Table of Contents — Includes Religious Illustrations Publisher: Available in Paperbacks: FIRST PART: ISBN-13: 978-1-78379-507-9 SECOND PART: ISBN-13: 978-1-78379-508-6 It is the writer’s conviction that Dogma is the foundation of Ascetical Theology and that an exposition of what God has done and still does for us is the most efficacious motive of true devotion. Hence, care has been taken to recall briefly the truths of faith on which the spiritual life rests. This treatise then is first of all doctrinal in character and aims at bringing out the fact that Christian perfection is the logical outcome of dogma, especially of the central dogma of the Incarnation. The work however is also practical, for a vivid realization of the truths of faith is the strongest incentive to earnest and steady efforts towards the correction of faults and the practice of virtues. Consequently in the first part of this treatise the practical conclusions that naturally flow from revealed truths and the general means of perfection are developed. The second part contains a more detailed exposition of the special means of advancing along the Three Ways towards the heights of perfection. Contents: FIRST PART: Principles SECOND PART: The Three Ways BOOK I: The Purification of the Soul or the Purgative Way BOOK II: The Illuminative Way BOOK III: The Unitive Way PUBLISHER: CATHOLIC WAY PUBLISHING

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What book of the Old or New Testament has generated the most commentaries in the history of the Church? Not John?s Gospel, not Paul?s letter to the Romans, not the prophet Isaiah, no, it is the Song of Songs. It is a book that is unknown to many Catholics, and shocking to those who discover it for the first time because of its descriptions of a lover and his beloved God is only mentioned once and that is at the very end. And yet the greatest of the Fathers have commented on it. Origen?s is the classic and St. Jerome says of it: ?Origen, having surpassed all of the interpreters of all the books of Scripture, surpassed himself in this interpretation of the Canticle.? St. Bernard of Clairvaux, St. Francis de Sales, St. John of the Cross, all have added to the great tradition of interpreting this book for they see it as God?s love for Israel and the Church, Christ?s love for Mary, for the Church, and for each of us. The author draws on all these classics of Catholic tradition to give us a verse by verse reading of the Song of Songs which will deepen the spiritual lives of all of us a deepening rooted in God?s word and the most profound Catholic tradition.
