Les missions confiées ne se limitent plus à la simple délivrance d'une ordonnance médicale mais s'élargissent, en leur proposant la réalisation des tests rapides d'orientation diagnostique (TROD). Celui de l'angine est autorisé à l'officine depuis 2016 et quant à la cystite, le test de la bandelette urinaire est autorisé depuis novembre 2023. Ils permettent ainsi de mieux traiter ces deux pathologies, de pallier au phénomène d'antibiorésistance et de faire face d'une part aux déserts médicaux et d'autre part aux cabinets médicaux surchargés. Malgré la possibilité de réaliser ces tests de dépistage, les pharmaciens sont toujours en attente de la publication du décret d'application leur permettant de délivrer aux patients le bon antibiotique à la suite d'un TROD se révélant positif.
