Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book La m taphysique du temps perspectives contemporaines written by Collectif and published by Collège de France. This book was released on 2021-02-15 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2024-10-28 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The context of this second volume by Professor Duval is the trinitarian controversies of the later 4th century. His work presents a detailed analysis of the 'reconquest' of Northan Italy and Illyricum from the homeist dogmas put in place by Constans II and affirmed by the Council of Rimini in 359-60. Milan occupies a central place, first as a bastion of Arianism, then as the see of Ambrose, who eventually oversaw the victory of orthodoxy; as these studies show, the process was not straightforward, and even after the Council of Aquileia in 381, remained imperilled by the turbulent politics of the Empire. The final item, hitherto unpublished, gives a critical account of some recent work on Ambrose.

Download or read book M taphysique d Ibn Gabirol et de la tradition platonicienne written by Fernand Brunner and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-28 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early in his career, Fernand Brunner became one of the few specialists on Ibn Gabirol, a Jewish philosopher and poet in 11th-century Spain, whose treatise, the Fons vitae, is known only in Latin translation. Brunner showed the coherence of this rarely studied version of Platonism and traced its impact on the scholastic philosophy of the succeeding centuries. His work was guided by a systematic interest in Platonic solutions to such problems as the relations of matter and form, and of God to the world. This volume includes a number of previously unpublished papers, several of which also provide broad expositions of a Platonic ontology. The author makes his reader aware that arguments as well as images must be taken seriously in the attempt to approach the Platonic tradition.

Book Perjury and Pardon Volume I

Download or read book Perjury and Pardon Volume I written by Jacques Derrida and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2022-09-27 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An inquiry into the problematic of perjury, or lying, and forgiveness from one of the most influential philosophers of the twentieth century. “One only ever asks forgiveness for what is unforgivable.” From this contradiction begins Perjury and Pardon, a two-year series of seminars given by Jacques Derrida at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris in the late 1990s. In these sessions, Derrida focuses on the philosophical, ethical, juridical, and political stakes of the concept of responsibility. His primary goal is to develop what he calls a “problematic of lying” by studying diverse forms of betrayal: infidelity, denial, false testimony, perjury, unkept promises, desecration, sacrilege, and blasphemy. Although forgiveness is a notion inherited from multiple traditions, the process of forgiveness eludes those traditions, disturbing the categories of knowledge, sense, history, and law that attempt to circumscribe it. Derrida insists on the unconditionality of forgiveness and shows how its complex temporality destabilizes all ideas of presence and even of subjecthood. For Derrida, forgiveness cannot be reduced to repentance, punishment, retribution, or salvation, and it is inseparable from, and haunted by, the notion of perjury. Through close readings of Kant, Kierkegaard, Shakespeare, Plato, Jankélévitch, Baudelaire, and Kafka, as well as biblical texts, Derrida explores diverse notions of the “evil” or malignancy of lying while developing a complex account of forgiveness across different traditions.

Book Sub versions

Download or read book Sub versions written by Ciaran Ross and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2010 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Swift's repulsive shit-flinging Yahoos to Beckett's dying but never quite dead moribunds, Irish literature has long been perceived as being synonymous with subversion and all forms of subversiveness. But what constitutes a subversive text or a subversive writer in twenty-first-century Ireland? The essays in this volume set out to redefine and rethink the subversive potential of modern Irish literature. Crossing three central genres, one common denominator running through these essays whether dealing with canonical writers like Yeats, Beckett and Flann O'Brien, or lesser known contemporary writers like Sebastian Barry or Robert McLiam Wilson, is the continual questioning of Irish identity - Irishness - going from its colonial paradigm and stereotype of the subaltern in MacGill, to its uneasy implications for gender representation in the contemporary novel and the contemporary drama. A subsidiary theme inextricably linked to the identity problematic is that of exile and its radical heritage for all Irish writing irrespective of its different genres. Sub-Versions offers a cross-cultural and trans-national response to the expanding interest in Irish and postcolonial studies by bringing together specialists from different national cultures and scholarly contexts - Ireland, Britain, France and Central Europe. The order of the essays is by genre. This study is aimed both at the general literary reader and anyone particularly interested in Irish Studies.
