Il promeut notamment l'utilisation du Cadre européen commun de référence (CECR; qui favorise une approche actionnelle) pour soutenir l'enseignement et l'apprentissage du français langue seconde (FLS; Patrimoine canadien, 2006). Le ministère de l'Éducation de l'Ontario soutient ainsi l’approche actionnelle en tant que méthode pédagogique dans les programmes de FLS et, plus largement, encourage les enseignants de FLS à s'appuyer sur le CECR dans leurs pratiques enseignantes (Ministère de l'Éducation de l'Ontario, 2013). Cependant, les recherches antérieures montrent que les enseignants ont de la difficulté à imaginer l'utilisation du cadre dans les salles de classe, par exemple, puisqu'ils perçoivent qu'il s'avère complexe (Mison et Jang, 2011). À ce titre, la question à la base de cette recherche est : quelles sont les conceptions de l’enseignement et de l’apprentissage ainsi que les pratiques enseignantes issues du CECR d’enseignants de FLS en Ontario? Pour y répondre, elle se compose de trois objectifs : 1) identifier les conceptions de l’enseignement et de l’apprentissage d’enseignants de FLS de l’Ontario relativement au CECR; 2) décrire les pratiques enseignantes issues du CECR de ces enseignants; 3) expliciter les liens entre les conceptions et les pratiques. Cette recherche s’inscrit dans une méthodologie qualitative. Des entrevues semi-dirigées virtuelles ont été réalisées auprès de huit enseignants de FLS qui enseignent en Ontario (au niveau de l'élémentaire et du secondaire; dans les programmes de base, d'intensif et d'immersion). Les résultats suggèrent surtout que les enseignants croient que le CECR fournit une compréhension claire de la définition du FLS et de sa séquence d'enseignement et qu'il promeut des pratiques enseignantes centrées sur l'élève. Ils proposent également que ceux-ci mènent des pratiques enseignantes issues du CECR qui soutiennent le développement de compétences authentiques du FLS chez les élèves. Finalement, ils indiquent qu'il existe des liens entre les conceptions (système de croyances) et les pratiques, par exemple, entre les croyances personnelles et les actions des enseignants. Research on elementary Core French education in Ontario has shown that its teachers are marginalized in practice. How this marginalization is positioned by researchers and what researchers recommend to end it are key foci of this thesis. Using a hybrid framework of complexity theory, critical theory, and language as right, the research perspective on the marginalization of Core French teachers is examined in order to form an agenda for future research. Dichotomy and variability in researchers' positioning of the issue as well as in their recommendations are uncovered. A move toward grassroots-level activist research is highlighted, with a salient theme of agency and empowerment. A major implication of this research is the need to address the place of Core French within national bilingualism. Suggestions for future research include larger sample sizes, quantitative investigations, and interventionist research. L'enseignement du français langue seconde (FLS) est obligatoire en Ontario. La recherche sur l'enseignement du français de base au niveau primaire en Ontario ont montré que les enseignant.es sont marginalisé.es. Comment cette marginalisation est positionnée par les chercheurs et ce que les chercheurs recommandent pour y mettre fin sont les axes clés de cette thèse. En utilisant un cadre hybride de théorie de la complexité, de théorie critique, et de langage comme juste (Language-as-Right), les perspectives de la recherche sur la marginalisation des enseignants de français de base est examinée afin de former un agenda pour les recherches futures. La dichotomie et la variabilité du positionnement des chercheurs sur la question et aditionellement dans leurs recommandations sont découvertes. Un mouvement vers la recherche militante au niveau local est souligné, avec un thème saillant de l'agence et de l'autonomisation. Une implication majeure de cette recherche est la nécessité d'envisager la place du français de base dans le bilinguisme officiel du Canada. Les suggestions de recherche future comprennent des échantillons plus grands, des enquêtes quantitatives, et de recherche interventionniste.
