Download or read book The Complete Trailer Park Boys written by Matthew Sibiga and published by Random House Canada. This book was released on 2016-07-19 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first of its kind – a heavily illustrated, all-you-need-to-know book about the cult hit TV show, for both rabid fans and anyone who enjoys a hot toasted chicken finger. To the storied and pastoral locales of great Canadian fiction – Leacock’ s Mariposa, Lawrence’s Manawaka, Montgomery’s Avonlea – readers can now add the many splendours of Sunnyvale Trailer Park. With this lovingly designed volume, to grace even the finest toilet-side magazine basket, Ricky, Bubbles, Julian and the whole TPB crew stumble, bewildered and slightly aggravated, from the screen to the page – without spilling a drop of rum and Coke. Working in concert with the show’s creators Matthew Sibiga and Don Wininger have developed a wide range of interpretive devices, helpful lists, historical mementoes, legal advice, wrestling, kitty-care and grooming tips, and more, to aid in any fan’s appreciation of the show – or substitute for it when the cable is out. Added to these features is a two-page synopsis of every episode, including stats, air dates and best lines. Numerous photos and sidebars scattered throughout include quotes, philosophical gleanings and tidbits from the series. Just in time for new episodes on Netflix (or of yet-another-re-run) of one of the most popular television shows ever created in Canada, The Complete Trailer Park Boys truly is a resource no fan can do without. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a game of life or death, the seniors at Pondside Manor risk it all. With help from Pondside Manor’s quirky, twentysomething kitchen worker Foster Kresowik, resident Robert Kallman creates The World of Pondside, a video game that delights the nursing home’s residents by allowing them to virtually relive blissful moments from days long past—or even create new ones. One-legged Duane Lotspeich is overjoyed when he can dance the tango again. Octogenarian Laverne Slatchek cheers on her favorite baseball team from the stands at Candlestick Park with her beloved husband—who died years ago. Even the overwhelmed Pondside administrator escapes her job by logging into a much more luxurious virtual world. Robert’s game enlivens the halls of Pondside Manor, but chaos ensues when he is found dead, submerged in the pond, still strapped into his wheelchair. If any resident witnessed his death, they’re not telling—either covering up or, quite possibly, forgetting. And it’s far from clear to anyone—including the police—if the death of this brilliant man, who suffered from ALS, was suicide or murder. When Robert’s video game goes dark, its players grow desperate. The task of getting it back online falls to young Foster, who enlists help from a raucous group of residents and staff. Their pursuit—virtual and real—has unintended consequences, uncovering both criminal activities and the secret plans of Foster’s friend Robert. From Pondside Manor, this unlikely bunch of gamers embarks upon an astonishing journey—blissful, treacherous, and unforgettable. Packed with sharp wit and compassion, The World of Pondside is a rousing, perceptive, and utterly unique novel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's a mistake to insist on an upper middle-class gospel. Orthodox Catholic universities can fall into this trap, as any privileged person can. What matters is spiritual poverty. This is what we are called to, to take the lowest part--always. After all, the only sins we can really know are our own. These poems are an attempt to foreground that problem, that solution. May they give Jesus glory, whatever their success.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Canadian Cinema

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Canadian Cinema written by Janine Marchessault and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-03-20 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters in The Oxford Handbook of Canadian Cinema present a rich, diverse overview of Canadian cinema. Responding to the latest developments in Canadian film studies, this volume takes into account the variety of artistic voices, media technologies, and places which have marked cinema in Canada throughout its history. Drawing on a range of established and emerging scholars from a range of disciplines, this volume will be useful to teachers, scholars, and to a general readership interested in cinema in Canada. Moving beyond the director-focused approach of much previous scholarship, this book is concerned with communities, institutions, and audiences for Canadian cinema at both national and international levels. The choice of subjects covered ranges from popular, genre cinema to the most experimental of artistic interventions. Canadian cinema is seen in its interaction with other forms of art-making and media production in Canada and at the international level. Particular attention has been paid to the work of Indigenous filmmakers, members of diasporic communities and feminist and LGBTQ artists. The result is a book attentive to the complex social and institutional contexts in which Canadian cinema is made and consumed.

Book Shooting from the East

Download or read book Shooting from the East written by Darrell Varga and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2015-11-01 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atlantic Canada has a rich tradition of storytelling and creativity that has extended to critical and audience praise for films from the region’s four provinces. Until now there has been no comprehensive history of this diverse body of work. In Shooting from the East, Darrell Varga traces the emergence of art cinema in the 1970s and ’80s, and subsequent rise of a contemporary commercial feature film and television industry by way of representative examples of a great range of titles, including The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood, Life Classes, The Disappeared, and Trailer Park Boys. He provides analysis of documentary filmmaking to emphasize concerns such as the establishment of the regional National Film Board studio and the influence of broadcast policy, but also considers significant recurring themes including the environment, the body, race and First Nations, and the North. Through critical analyses of key films and interviews conducted with filmmakers from all corners of the region, Varga uncovers patterns of meaning across diverse productions and interrogates the concept of region in relation to prevailing notions of national cinema and transnational media culture. With a focus on short films and an extensive history and analysis of the filmmaking production co-operatives located in each province, Shooting from the East sheds light on the creative processes and local economic and cultural conditions for making images on the edge of the Atlantic.
