Book excerpt: Faithful to his style, artist-writer Fabio Kacero (b. Buenos Aires, 1961), creates a book that without being neither one thing nor the other, is all or, in any case, something beyond that everything. The edition is a catalog and a series of brief texts about his work, small and beautiful literary pieces, confluence of poetic passages, intimate anecdotes, stories, and reflections on contemporary art. Editor Gaby Comte presents a book (with three different covers, which are works, or rather part of Editions Fairy Fellersʺ, the publishing project in which Kacero designs covers for books and authors he invents) that follows the same course (and has the same name) as the exhibition "Detournalia", carried out in MAMBA in the winter of 2014 and curated by Rafael Cippolini. Anyone who thinks the book as a predictable structure will quickly be disappointment when they find in the first page, in the second, in the third and also in the next ten, a series of indexes that are not indices of anything but are work themselves. Kacero enumerates, makes lists, highlighting small bureaucracies of the paratexts, with which we deal on a daily basis: he indexes books that do not exist, stories?, essays? with suggestive names, that we want to run to read: Entrópico de capricornioʺ, Temporada de pathosʺ, Religión catódicaʺ, Mente en blanco de titanioʺ. His games with words plat between ingenuity and irony, but in their accumulation projected a deeper sense. "Immediately I realized - says Sergio Bizzio in one of the texts of the book- that the index, in turn, works as a picture the frame silencers what is outside of the work - but in reverse: Kacero would mute what is in, but how?".

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this first comprehensive presentation of art from the 1990s in Argentina, Recovering Beautyplaces the Centro Cultural Rojas (CCR) at the core of this creative period. The CCR, or "El Rojas" as it was later known, opened in 1989 as a venue for emerging artists. The "El Rojas" artists epitomized a collective will to move beyond a grim recent past by creating introspective narratives that looked towards the ordinary as a source of inspiration. Artists such as Feliciano Centurión, Sebastián Gordin, Jorge Gumier Mier, Miguel Harte, Graciela Hasper, Benito Laren, Marcelo Pombo, Cristina Schiavi and Omar Schiliro espoused conceptions of beauty, color and fantasy, and the projection of psychology as artistic expression. Recovering Beautyis the first sustained examination of this fascinating moment in Argentine culture, which chimes with trends towards the fantastical and the decorative in American art of the late 1990s and 2000s.

Book The Brutality of Things

Download or read book The Brutality of Things written by Lorena Preta and published by Mimesis. This book was released on 2019-08-02T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In every psychic experience, even in the production of a work of art, there exists a nucleus that is impossible to transform. It resists any and every action against itself. We are used to dealing with these irreducible and radical othernesses by adapting them to our own way of knowing and our experience. In reality, they make up the ugly material of our living and, hence, of our humanity. We can, however, transform them in some way, without altering their substance, but rather organizing them in different configurations, which generate new forms. Psychoanalysis can aid in this difficult and risky process, providing resilient equipment, much like a sophisticated spacesuit, allowing one to travel the cosmic spaces of psychic life and of human reality without bursting into flames. In the actual world we meet with disorganized and fragmentary conflict, to which psychoanalysis attempts to answer adopting an open, non-defensive procedure, aiming to widen the field of experience rather than reducing it. For this reason, the interweaving of various forms of knowledge is necessary in order to link the diverse aspects and levels of psychic and external reality. The author examines this theme through the psychoanalytic approach, as well as through philosophy, science and art, and using stories based on personal life and clinical experiences.

Book Belleza Y Felicidad

Download or read book Belleza Y Felicidad written by Fernanda Laguna and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry. Fiction. Art. Latino/Latina Studies. Translated from the Spanish by Stuart Krimko. As the Argentine economy went into freefall at the end of the last millennium, two young women--Fernanda Laguna and Cecilia Pavón--met and became friends. Fernanda, a painter and poet who also publishes fiction under the nom de plume Dalia Rosetti, and Cecilia, a poet and translator, soon forged the radically creative partnership now known as Belleza y Felicidad. As Belleza emerged into a movement and inspired a community, Fernanda and Cecilia broadcast its ethos--a complete program of resistance, as César Aira once described it--through a prodigious output of poetry and fiction. Now a generous selection of this work is available in English for the first time. With an introduction by translator Stuart Krimko, this authoritative volume transmits the urgency and passionate feeling at the heart of one of the most exciting artistic and literary movements to emerge from South America in recent decades. BELLEZA Y FELICIDAD, both the place and the idea, live on in the irresistible pleasures of Cecilia's and Fernanda's poems and stories. Upon revisiting them now I find that they are in fact high-precision lenses for seeing the daily utopias of reality.--César Aira Fernanda Laguna and Cecilia Pavón are legendary writers, domesticating the world in order to make it the subject of their 'domestic' poetry. They are voracious and understand everything. Stuart Krimko's translations capture the totalizing effect of their writings beautifully.--Chris Kraus This book is a paradise of love. Eminent, charismatic, & frolicsome, it's also the magic transcription of a friendship, i.e. a romance (several!), the kind I spent my misspent youth envying in Montaigne & La Boetie. Ecstatics of childlike candor & polymorphous grace, Fernanda Laguna & Cecilia Pavón are absolute women, guileless dreamers, saints in sneakers, on sidewalks, in jail, in Zara, on buses, in nightclubs, in bed, about to turn 29, & 37, & 7. I can't wait for everyone in america to read this book & never be the same again.--Ariana Reines
