This book was released on 2011 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polarized deep inelastic scattering (DIS) experiments indicate that quarks only carry approximately 30% of the proton spin, which led to interest in measuring the contributions of other components. Through polarized proton-proton collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), the world's only polarized proton collider, it is possible to make an extraction of the polarized gluon distribution function [delta]g(x). This function describes the contribution of the gluon polarization to the proton spin. This thesis presents a measurement of the p + p ---> Jet + Jet + X (dijet) cross section from the 2005 RHIC running period and a measurement of the longitudinal double spin asymmetry ALL from the 2009 RHIC running period, both made using the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR). The cross section is measured over the invariant mass range 20

Book Inclusive Jet Production in Ultrarelativistic Proton nucleus Collisions

Download or read book Inclusive Jet Production in Ultrarelativistic Proton nucleus Collisions written by Dennis Perepelitsa and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-pT processes in proton- and deuteron-nucleus collisions at TeV energies are the best presently available way to study the partonic structure of the nucleus in a high-density regime. Jet production over a wide range of phase space can significantly constrain the current knowledge of nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs), which are substantially less well understood than the corresponding PDFs in protons and which have only recently begun to be treated in a spatially-dependent way. An accurate knowledge of nPDFs is crucial for a definitive control of perturbative processes in a cold nuclear environment, since high-pT probes are used to quantitatively investigate the hot QCD matter created in ultrarelativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions. Furthermore, jets from low Bjorken-x partons can probe the transition from the dilute to saturated nuclear regimes.

Book Jets in High Energy Hadronic Collisions

Download or read book Jets in High Energy Hadronic Collisions written by Ali Zaman and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The jet production in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at relativistic and ultrarelativistic energies using the HIJING is studied and discussed. We analyzed the distributions of multiplicity of secondary charged particles, their pseudorapidity, rapidity and the transverse mass as a function of the number of jets. These parameters are used to estimate energy density and temperature of the hadronic matter to get the signal about QGP formation. For ultrarelativistic energy we considered pp at 14 TeV, PbPb at 5.5 TeV, pPb at 8.8 TeV and ArAr at 6.3 TeV, same as in ALICE and also at 25.0 GeV as relativistic energy. We obtained some insights about some properties of jets and their influences on the characteristics of the secondary particles produced in relativistic and ultrarelativistic hadronic collisions. In this text the background information about the jet production is presented in chapter 1. Chapter 2 contains description of the HIJING parameters. Chapter 3 is a description of the ALICE detectors. The results obtained by using the HIJING for pp, pA and AA interactions are presented and discussed in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 summarizes the conclusions.

Book Precision Measurement of the Longitudinal Double spin Asymmetry for Inclusive Jet Production in Polarized Proton Collisions at u221A s

Download or read book Precision Measurement of the Longitudinal Double spin Asymmetry for Inclusive Jet Production in Polarized Proton Collisions at u221A s written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report a new measurement of the midrapidity inclusive jet longitudinal double-spin asymmetry, ALL, in polarized pp collisions at center-of-mass energy √s = 200 GeV. The STAR data place stringent constraints on polarized parton distribution functions extracted at next-to-leading order from global analyses of inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (DIS), semi-inclusive DIS, and RHIC pp data. Lastly, the measured asymmetries provide evidence at the 3? level for positive gluon polarization in the Bjorken-x region x > 0.05 .

Book In jet Tracking Efficiency Analysis for the Star Time Projection Chamber in Polarized Proton proton Collisions square Root Of

Download or read book In jet Tracking Efficiency Analysis for the Star Time Projection Chamber in Polarized Proton proton Collisions square Root Of written by Liaoyuan Huo and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As one of the major mid-rapidity tracking devices of the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC), the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) plays an important role in measuring trajectory and energy of high energy charged particles in polarized proton-proton collision experiments. TPC's in-jet tracking efficiency represents the largest systematic uncertainty on jet energy scale at high transverse momentum, whose measurement contributes to the understanding of the spin structure of protons. The objective of this analysis is to get a better estimation of this systematic uncertainty, through methods of pure Monte-Carlo simulation and real- data embedding, in which simulated tracks are embedded into real-data events. Be- sides, simulated tracks are also embedded into Monte-Carlo events, to make a strict comparison for the uncertainty estimation. The result indicates that the unexplained part of the systematic uncertainty is reduced to 3.3%, from a previous quoted value of 5%. This analysis also suggests that future analysis, such as embedding jets into zero-bias real data and analysis with much higher event statistics, will benefit the understanding of the systematic uncertainty of the in-jet TPC tracking efficiency.

Book Mini jet and Particle Production in Ultra relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

Download or read book Mini jet and Particle Production in Ultra relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mini-jet and particle production are studied in the framework of HIJING Monte Carlo model which can describe pp and p{bar p} collisions well from ISR to Fermilab Tevatron energies. Mini-jets are shown to have eminent contributions to particle production in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. However, parton shadowing and jet quenching also have important effects and can be studied by single particle distributions. 19 refs., 5 figs.

Book Perspectives in Hadronic Physics

Download or read book Perspectives in Hadronic Physics written by Sigfrido Boffi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the invited and contributed papers presented at the Fourth International Conference on Perspectives in Hadronic Physics and sent to the Editors within the deadline. The Conference was held at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, from May 12th to 16th, 2003, and was attended by about 100 scientists from 20 countries. The series ofConferences on Perspectives on Hadronic Physics takes place every two years since 1997 and follows the seven Workshops on Perspectives in Nuclear Physics at Intermediate Energies, organized every two years at ICTP since 1983. The aim of these Conferences is to discuss the status-of-the-art concerning the experimental and theoretical investigations of hadronic systems, from nucleons to nuclei and dense nuclear matter, in terms of the relevant underlying degrees of freedom. For such a reason the Fourth Conference has been focused on those experimental and theoretical topics which have been in the last few years the object of intensive investigations, viz. the various approaches employed to describe the structure of hadrons in terms of QCD and QCD inspired models, the recent developments in the treatment of the properties and propagations of hadronic states in the medium, the relevant progress done in the solution of the few- and many- hadron problems, the recent results in the experimental investigation of dense hadronic matter and, last but not least, the physics programs of existing Laboratories and the suggested projects for new Facilities.
