Book Jean Luc Mylayne

Download or read book Jean Luc Mylayne written by Jean-Luc Mylayne and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than thirty years, Jean Luc Mylayne has been photographing the birds of his native France. The creation of each image is a laborious process which can take months as Mylayne returns to the same location, day after day, waiting for his "actors," the birds, to play their parts before his lense. Mylayne asserts that the birds - he particularly focuses on bluebirds indigenous to Western Europe and the Western United States - are willing participants in the making of the picture. This is Jean Luc Mylayne's first book, and will accompany a U.S. exhibition.

Book Into the Hands of Time

Download or read book Into the Hands of Time written by Jean-Luc Mylayne and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over three decades, French photographer Jean-Luc Mylayne (born 1946) has pursued a single motif: common birds in their natural habitats. But Mylayne is no documentarian or nature photographer. His works might best be described as tableaux in which avian motifs play carefully scripted roles within a larger tale of life, and themes of interdependence among species, the cycles of life and death and the depletion of natural resources.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Timeless Painting presents the work of 17 contemporary painters whose works reflect a singular approach that is peculiarly of our time: they are a-temporal, a term coined by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling, the originators of the cyberpunk aesthetic. A-temporality or timelessness manifests itself in painting as an ahistoric free-for-all, where contemporaneity as an indicator of new form is nowhere to be found, and all eras co-exist. Published to accompany an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art that explores the impact of this cultural condition on contemporary painting, this publication features work by an international roster of artists including Joe Bradley, Kerstin Brätsch, Matt Connors, Nicole Eisenman, Mark Grotjahn, Charline von Heyl, , Julie Mehretu, Oscar Murillo, Laura Owens and Josh Smith, among others. An overview essay by curator Laura Hoptman is divided into thematic chapters that explore topics such as re-animation and reenactment, recontextualization, 'Zombie' painting, and the concomitant 'Frankenstein approach', which describes a process of stitching together pieces of the history of painting to create a work of art that would be dead but for its juxtaposed parts, all working in association with one another to propel the work into life.

Download or read book Sketches written by Elizabeth Chodos and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cultural Writing. Art. Just as an artist must defer to his or her idea, the curator of an exhibition must defer to the art. And, for the same reasons that an artist's sketches, revisions, and failures don't hang on the wall next to the finished project, a curator's notebooks, memos, and emails should remain behind the scenes. SKETCHES illustrates what ideas look like when they are forming. Green Lantern published this book with the hope that arts administrators of all kinds can pick it up, flip through its pages and become inspired. It is also great in that non-arts administrators can see the mess behind the Wizard of Oz. This communal collection of "sketches" will pass ideas for exhibitions, organizational structures, or academic projects between colleagues and strangers in an effort to connect people and expand thinking on arts administration.

Its in-depth presentations on artists have become the standard for criticism and analysis, and being selected to be in Parkett is considered an honor for contemporary artists worldwide. Deborah Wye, a curator at the Museum of Modern Art, writes an essay looking at the various methods of collaboration between Parkett and the artists, including the editions, inserts, spines, covers, and design of the publication. Book Rania Matar She

Download or read book Rania Matar She written by and published by . This book was released on 2021-11-16 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Portraits of American and Middle Eastern young women entering adulthood from Rania Matar, author of L'Enfant-Femme As a Lebanese-born American artist and mother, Rania Matar's (born 1964) cross-cultural experiences inform her art. She has dedicated her work to exploring issues of personal and collective identity through photographs of female adolescence and womanhood--both in the United States where she lives, and in the Middle East where she is from. Rania Matar: She focuses on young women in their late teens and early twenties, who are leaving the cocoon of home, entering adulthood and facing a new reality. Depicting women in the United States and the Middle East, this project highlights how female subjectivity develops in parallel forms across cultural lines. Each young woman becomes an active participant in the image-making process, presiding over the environment and making it her own. Matar portrays the raw beauty of her subjects--their age, individuality, physicality and mystery--and photographs them the way she, a woman and a mother, sees them: beautiful, alive.
