At a glance, he seems like the true love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy. But that’s all an illusion, because the truth is that he just never got over the woman who broke his heart. Janie Kim is a shy, quiet bookworm who spent her high school days as your basic friendless social misfit. That is, until Robby (Buzzy) West came to town. Their innocent friendship quickly blossomed into love – the soul searing, forever kind. But Janie knew that Robby's talent was too good for small town life, so she did what she thought was best and broke his heart right after graduation. Devastated, Buzzy picked up his drumsticks and left town, headed for LA to chase his dream. But years later, when she shows up backstage after a Jagged Ivory concert, Buz can't get her or their romance out of his mind. He needs answers to the questions he's been asking himself all these years. He needs closure. Only when he goes looking for it, he finds that Janie's been keeping secrets. This is the second edition of this book and not a new title.

Book The Jagged Journey

Download or read book The Jagged Journey written by Barry L. Callen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-05-15 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s the most important subject in Christianity. It reveals who God is, how God works, how we mature as followers of Jesus, and how we are to conduct ourselves in this sinful world. The subject is suffering. To explore it biblically and inspirationally is to identify the basic elements of a responsible Christian theology that’s more than a set of pious abstractions. This subject forces us close to where we hurt, doubt, believe, and relate to our neighbors. God suffers, Jesus cries. The tears of God are the deepest meaning of our history. God’s “problem” is not that God is not able to do certain things, but that God loves. The cross of Jesus was in God’s heart before it appeared on Golgatha. The pain of God is the healing of humanity. The cross, the worst of human doing and the best of divine revelation, clarifies that we must die to really live. We must share in the sufferings of Jesus.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays explores masculinity in an unsystematic way. We've found that the various ways we've approached masculinity tend to fall into some broad and practical categories in our writing. To be a man means to be free to be what God has already declared we are in Christ—His saved and redeemed men. A man is free; we are free from sin, death, and the power of the devil. Being free, a man is then honored to work for his neighbor's good, knowing that his closest neighbors are those whom God has placed closest to him in his life—his family. And just as a man speaks to and cares for his own, so also does a man need to be spoken to and cared for at times. He needs the mutual consolation of the brethren, a brotherhood. To put it simply, a man needs good friends. Over and over again, we find praise for fun, the love of good fellowship, good drink, and good smoke.

Book Views from a Jagged Orbit Essays

Download or read book Views from a Jagged Orbit Essays written by Richard D. Erlich and published by Wildside Press LLC. This book was released on 2017-03-17 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These are essays, indeed, but generally not the sort taught in schools -- or that I taught for forty years: not in the elegant Intro/Thesis/Proof/Conclusion tradition but more in the older tradition of Michel de Montaigne and les essais, and of satire. That is, they are "attempts," explorations, and, well, also traps, where I wander around a bit in apparent innocence and then spring on readers a possibly outrageous idea, one they wouldn’t have considered for a moment if I hadn’t lulled them (you) into trusting me a bit. Some of the essays are also in the satiric tradition, where one tries for some startling combinations of learnéd language and vulgarity, short shocker sentences in the midst of some knotty convolutions. Anyway, the essays usually do come to some fairly clear, fairly serious, non-random conclusion and Views can’t be entirely without form. So my initial editor and I have arranged them into categories. The over-arching, “meta” category for most is POLITICS or POLITICS AND CULTURE: I was brought up political in Chicago and have remained true to my breeding as a thoroughly political animal, and, of course, I am a student of, and participant in, at least a couple of cultures.

Byerman discusses how black writers such as Toni Morrison, Ishmael Reed, and Ernest Gaines have moved away from the ideological rigidity of the black arts movement that arose in the 1960s to create a more expressive, imaginative, and artistic fiction inspired by the example of Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man. Combining a strong concern for technique and craftsmanship with elements of African American heritage including jazz, blues, spirituals, cautionary tales, and voodoo, these writers have created a vital fiction that celebrates the strength and resilience of the black American voice as it recounts the painful details and brutal episodes of black experience.
