Download or read book Not Just Numbers written by Lawrence D. Gibson and published by Maven House. This book was released on 2016-11-15 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this provocative and insightful book, highly regarded marketing research expert Lawrence Gibson argues that the multi-billion-dollar marketing research industry has largely failed. Not Just Numbers shows you exactly why it's failed – too much focus on gathering and analyzing data – and how it must change. Gibson asserts that businesses need a different way of looking at marketing research, both more scientific and more practical. Marketing research needs to take a stronger role in helping to solve marketing problems and capitalize on marketing opportunities and not merely be a source of data. The logical steps required to solve marketing problems and realize opportunities are simply and clearly explained in the book. Cases from the author's experience show you how this problem-solving approach has worked in real-world situations and demonstrate the dramatic sales and financial gains you can achieve when marketing research is properly designed and used. The book also provides you practical guidance to enhance your problem-solving and political skills to help corporate leaders identify more profitable actions and make more profitable decisions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An eye-opening look at the life and legacy of Jackie Robinson, the man who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball and became an American hero. Baseball, basketball, football — no matter the game, Jackie Robinson excelled. His talents would have easily landed another man a career in pro sports, but in America in the 1930s and ’40s, such opportunities were closed to athletes like Jackie for one reason: his skin was the wrong color. Settling for playing baseball in the Negro Leagues, Jackie chafed at the inability to prove himself where it mattered most: the major leagues. Then in 1946, Branch Rickey, manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, decided he was going to break the “rules” of segregation: he recruited Jackie Robinson. Fiercely determined, Jackie faced cruel and sometimes violent hatred and discrimination, but he proved himself again and again, exhibiting courage, restraint, and a phenomenal ability to play the game. In this compelling biography, award-winning author Doreen Rappaport chronicles the extraordinary life of Jackie Robinson and how his achievements won over — and changed — a segregated nation.

Download or read book Topology of Numbers written by Allen Hatcher and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2022-10-19 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as an introduction to number theory at the undergraduate level, emphasizing geometric aspects of the subject. The geometric approach is exploited to explore in some depth the classical topic of quadratic forms with integer coefficients, a central topic of the book. Quadratic forms of this type in two variables have a very rich theory, developed mostly by Euler, Lagrange, Legendre, and Gauss during the period 1750–1800. In this book their approach is modernized by using the splendid visualization tool introduced by John Conway in the 1990s called the topograph of a quadratic form. Besides the intrinsic interest of quadratic forms, this theory has also served as a stepping stone for many later developments in algebra and number theory. The book is accessible to students with a basic knowledge of linear algebra and arithmetic modulo $n$. Some exposure to mathematical proofs will also be helpful. The early chapters focus on examples rather than general theorems, but theorems and their proofs play a larger role as the book progresses.
Download or read book Age Is Just a Number written by Dara Torres and published by Crown. This book was released on 2010-03-02 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From legendary Olympic gold medalist Dara Torres comes a motivational, inspirational memoir about staying fit, aging gracefully, and pursuing your dreams. Dara Torres captured the hearts and minds of Americans of all ages when she launched her Olympic comeback as a new mother at the age of forty-one—years after she had retired from competitive swimming and eight years since her last Olympics. When she took three silver medals in Beijing—including a heartbreaking .01-second finish behind the gold medalist in the women’s 50-meter freestyle—America loved her all the more for her astonishing achievement and her good-natured acceptance of the results. Now, in Age Is Just a Number, Dara reveals how the dream of an Olympic comeback first came to her—when she was months into her first, hard-won pregnancy. With humor and candor, Dara recounts how she returned to serious training—while nursing her infant daughter and contending with her beloved father’s long battle with cancer. Dara talks frankly about diving back in for this comeback; about being an older athlete in a younger athletes’ game; about competition, doubt, and belief; about working through pain and uncertainty; and finally—about seizing the moment and, most important, never giving up. A truly self-made legend, her story will resonate with women of all ages—and with anyone daring to entertain a seemingly impossible dream.

Download or read book Just Six Numbers written by Martin Rees and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2008-08-04 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did a single "genesis event" create billions of galaxies, black holes, stars and planets? How did atoms assemble -- here on earth, and perhaps on other worlds -- into living beings intricate enough to ponder their origins? What fundamental laws govern our universe? This book describes new discoveries and offers remarkable insights into these fundamental questions. There are deep connections between stars and atoms, between the cosmos and the microworld. Just six numbers, imprinted in the "big bang," determine the essential features of our entire physical world. Moreover, cosmic evolution is astonishingly sensitive to the values of these numbers. If any one of them were "untuned," there could be no stars and no life. This realization offers a radically new perspective on our universe, our place in it, and the nature of physical laws.
