Book The Role of Science Popularization in Science Technology Innovation Policy

Download or read book The Role of Science Popularization in Science Technology Innovation Policy written by Akram Ghadimi and published by Allied Publishers. This book was released on 2021-01-06 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Popularisation of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) is a process of communicating and appropriating scientific and technological knowledge among broad sectors of the population. This process, however, must contribute to an effective integration of a number of historical, cultural, political, social and economic situations; and make such knowledge a central component of the culture of social awareness and collective intelligence. The possibilities of gaining access to information are changing our vision while transforming the relationship between human beings, and the appropriation and dissemination of knowledge. Today, access to STI related knowledge is synonymous with development, well-being and improving quality of life. In this context, S&T literacy is a social and ethical right of all human beings. But developing countries face formidable challenges in increasing the capacity to store, retrieve and transmit S&T information. For this reason, the areas to be reached by STI must be broadened to integrate formal education and communication with informal efforts; while also making scientific and technological knowledge available to the ordinary citizen. This book includes 14 papers contributed by researchers, scientists, experts and professionals from 9 different developing countries namely Bhutan, Cuba, India, Iran, Mauritius, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Togo and Zimbabwe. And each paper gives significant insight into various policies and strategies that are being adopted or need to be adopted by the developing countries to ensure effective communication and popularisation of scientific knowledge.

Book excerpt: Asia is the largest continent in the world. Five out of the top ten high performing economies in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018 are located in Asia. Why do Asian students perform so well in STEM-related subjects? This book answers this by examining the STEM education policies and initiatives in Asian economies, as well as the training programmes undertaken by STEM teachers in Asia. The book is broken into four sections, each accompanied by a passage of commentary that summarizes the key takeaways of the chapters. Section one focuses on STEM policy environments and how various countries have developed policies that promote STEM as an integral part of national economic development. Section two focuses on STEM teacher education in the Philippines and Thailand, while section three focuses on STEM curriculum design, context, and challenges in four Asian economies. The fourth and final section focuses on presenting snapshots of STEM education research efforts in Malaysia, South Korea, and Singapore. Written by Asian academics, this book will provide valuable insights to policy makers, educators, and researchers interested in the topic of STEM education, especially in the Asian context. Book Addressing the Digital Divide in Bhutanese Educational Settings A Comparative Analysis between Urban and Rural Schools

Download or read book Addressing the Digital Divide in Bhutanese Educational Settings A Comparative Analysis between Urban and Rural Schools written by Kinga Tshering and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2024-02-09 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Document from the year 2023 in the subject Didactics - E-Learning, grade: 1,3, , course: Educational Technology, language: English, abstract: The article delves into the existing digital divide in Bhutan's educational scenario, specifically examining and evaluating the digital divide between urban and rural schools. Although the government has initiated various policies incorporating technology into education, the digital gap persists, obstructing equitable access to learning resources in rural and urban parts of Bhutan. The article specifies socio-economic factors, feasibility challenges, and gaps in training as factors that led to the digital divide. The article also identifies the importance of political initiatives in development of infrastructures and policy decisions, focusing on comprehensive and inclusive governmental policies for both rural and urban settings. The article recommends citizenship actions to curb the issues of the digital divide, including more budget allocation, subsidized internet services and charges, digital literacy programs, and teacher and student professional development, especially in rural settings. However, issues such as increased budget approval, implementation of policy, infrastructural limitations, and diverse linguistic settings in rural areas still remain challenges. Solving the digital gap is of paramount importance for Bhutan's overall socio-economic development, increasing educational and employment opportunities, and facilitating innovation in both urban and rural communities. The article suggests collaborative actions from stakeholders for digitally inclusive Bhutan and highlights recommendations for policymakers, educators, and communities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With clear, simple prose, and poetic turns of phrase, this inspirational collection of quotations reflects the unique country of Bhutan and its universal embrace of compassion, understanding, and kindness. Some of the quotes are also a bit quirky and funny—why not? After all, this remarkable little kingdom in the Eastern Himalayas just may hold the secret to lifelong happiness. Renowned for their government edict that “gross national happiness is more important than gross national product,” the Bhutanese grounding in Buddhist ideals suggests that material and spiritual development should occur side by side—something we can forget too often. So dive into this inspiring collection of wisdom, proverbs, and general sage advice to help you on your own road to happiness—or at least put a smile on your face. Although, as the Bhutanese saying goes, You don’t have to smile if you are pleased, nor do you have to frown if you are displeased. People who do this don’t get so many wrinkles! One dream cannot rest on two pillows. Evil words are like poisonous flowers. Evil actions are like poisonous roots. It is more important to have good teeth in your head than a hat which fits properly on it. Just as there are green fertile pastures and barren plains, the same is true for the territory of the heart and mind. If you take the jungle away from a free, roaming snow leopard it will feel like a poor street dog. So give the gift of happiness today!

Book Handbook of Education Systems in South Asia

Download or read book Handbook of Education Systems in South Asia written by Padma M. Sarangapani and published by Springer. This book was released on 2021-08-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is an important reference work in understanding education systems in the South Asia region, their development trajectory, challenges and potential. The handbook includes the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries for discussion---Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka---while also considering countries such as Myanmar and the Maldives that have considerable shared history in the region. Such a comparative perspective is largely absent within the literature given the present paucity of intra-regional interaction. South Asian education systems are viewed primarily through a development lens in terms of inequalities, challenges and responses. However, the development of modern institutions of education and the challenges that it faces requires cultural and historical understanding of indigenous traditions as well as indigenous modern thinkers and education movements. Therefore, this encompassing referenc e work covers indigenous education traditions, formal education systems, including school and preschool education, higher and professional education, education financing systems and structures, teacher education systems, addressing huge linguistic and other diversities, and marginalization within the formal education system, and pedagogy and curricula. All the countries in this region have their own unique geographical, cultural, economic and political character and histories of interest and significance, and have responded to common issues such as overcoming the colonial legacy, language diversity, or girls’ education, or minority rights in education, in uniquely different ways. The sections therefore include country-specific perspectives as far as possible to highlight these issues. Internationally renowned specialists of South Asian education systems have contributed to this important reference work, making it an invaluable resource for researchers and students of education interested in South Asia.
