Book Is the Bible Inspired Classic Reprint

Download or read book Is the Bible Inspired Classic Reprint written by James Hall Brookes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-29 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Is the Bible Inspired? This little book is the fruit of a suggestion by Prof. Briggs in his Biblical Study The doctrine of inspiration may be constructed by a careful, painstaking study of the sacred Scriptures themselves, gathering together their testimony as to their own origin; character, design, value, and authority. It lays no claim whatever to originality or scholarship, but its sole aim is to show in simple lan guage that the words of the Bible are the words of God. If He is pleased to own it in the least degree to confirm the faith of any of His children in the verbal inspiration of the book given to us by His Holy Spirit, or to sound a note of alarm that may summons abler pens to the de fence of the truth, the purpose for which it was hastily prepared will be accomplished; and to Him shall be all the praise through Jesus Christ our Lord. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Divine Inspiration of the Bible If the Bible is the Word of God; if it stands on an in finitely exalted plane, all alone; if it immeasurably tran scends all the greatest productions of human genius; then, we should naturally expect to find that it has unique cre dentials, that there are internal marks which prove it to be the handiwork of God, that there is conclusive evidence to show that its Author is superhuman, Divine. That these expectations are realized we shall now endeavor to show; that there is no reason whatever for any one to doubt the Divine inspiration of the Scriptures is the purpose of this book to demonstrate. As we examine the natural world we find innumerable proofs of the existence of a Personal Creator, and the same God who has manifested Himself thro' His works has also revealed His wisdom and will thro' His Word. The God of creation and the God of written revelation are One, and there are irrefutable arguments to show that the Almighty who made the heavens and the earth. Is also the Author of the Bible. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration of the Bible The following Essay on the Inspiration of the Bible, has been prepared from the first part of an interesting book entitled Lucilla, or the Reading of the Bible. Originally written in French by Rev. Mr. Monod, recently translated and published by the London Religious Tract Society. The design of the Author in that work is to show, in the first - place, that the Bible is the W ord of God, and consequently of Divine authority; and in the second place, that it is at once the privilege and the duty of all men to read it with reference to their personal salvation. The first part, the substance of which is given in the following pages, is in the form of Letters, and a Dialogue between a French Abbe, Mr. Lasalle and Lucilla, the iwife of Mr. L., which for several reasons it was thought best to abridge and condense into a continuous discourse. In doing this, great care has been taken to preserve Mr. Monod's argument entire, and his language so far as was practicable. The portions omitted belong not to the substance but the form of the discussion; and. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bible Inspiration: Plenary and VerbalInspiration, on the other hand, cons1sts in that actu ating, controlling, and guiding influence of the Holy Spirit, under which God's chosen messengers spoke and wrote the original Scriptures. In short, it denotes that extraordinary divine influence, under the direction and control of which all parts of the original Scriptures were recorded, whether they be direct revelations or mere historical facts. So that the entire Bible and every part of it was written by Inspiration, and there fore is true.N ow, Inspiration pertains, not so much to the writers, as to their writings. Accordingly, says Paul: All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profit able, etc. 2 Tim. Iii. 16. The meaning of this passage is the same, whether it be rendered, All Scripture is inspired by God (revised Version), or, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. In both, the apostle equally attests the fact that all Scripture is divinely inspired. Inspiration, therefore, is to be viewed rather in the Book, than in the men; the Book was inspired for all time, the men merely for the time being. Most of the errors on this subject have arisen from viewing inspiration in the writers, rather than in their writings.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Two Bibles: Or Scholarship and Inspiration Compared Dear Reader, this Work is not got up to find fault with the com mon Bible, or Authorized Version, but with the hope that by read ing it you may have more faith in the book of books than ever, and that you may read it more understandingly. Passages from the King James, or Authorized Version, are given the first place in the comparison. Quotations from the Inspired Translation are given the second place in the comparison, and the punctuation is given just as it is in each of the Bibles. In the reign of King James of England it took forty-seven schol ars seven years to translate the common Bible. They had some former translations to refer to and many manuscripts, and plenty of wealth at their command. The Inspired Translation of the Bible is a translation, or correct tion of the Common Bible, by Joseph Smith, by revelation from God. He began the translation in June 1830, and finished it in July 1833. He was then twenty eight years old. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Biblical Inspiration and Christ For it is evident that if we confine ourselves to the words inspiration, fieomeuaria, we still have no standard by which to distinguish the Bible from scores of other books. According to its primary meaning, in Spiration is not confined to the Bible. It exists and works wherever God breathes life and power into men. A work of genius is inspired. A good life is inspired. A deed of heroism is an inspiration. St. John's gos pel is inspired, but so are the Iliad, and Hamlet and the Divina Commedia. And yet it is entirely consist ent with this to say that the peculiar quality of Biblical inspiration is higher than the inspiration of these works. And imparts to the Bible a character which belongs to none of them. What this peculiar element is, is the thing we want to know. Book Inspiration and the Bible

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Inspiration and the Bible: An Inquiry "The only question concerning the truth of Christianity is, whether it be a real revelation, not whether it be attended with every circumstance which we should have looked for; and concerning the authority of Scripture, whether it be what it claims to be, not whether it be a book of such sort, and so promulgated, as weak men are apt to fancy a book containing a Divine revelation should. And therefore neither obscurity, nor seeming inaccuracy of style, nor various readings, nor early disputes, about the authors of particular parts; nor any other things of the like kind, though they had been much more considerable in degree than they are, could overthrow the authority of the Scripture; unless the prophets, apostles, or our Lord had promised that the book containing the Divine revelation should be secure from those things." Book The Inspiration and Authority of the Bible Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Inspiration and Authority of the Bible Classic Reprint written by John Clifford and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration and Authority of the Bible The First Edition of this book sold very rapidly, and enquiries have been repeatedly made for a second issue. That issue has been delayed so that I might give consideration to the criticisms passed upon some of the statements I have made. One reviewer suggested that I should shew "the constant Divine element in the Bible, the permanent Truth underneath all changing forms." At the risk of repetition I have, in response to that counsel, added the chapter on "Why the Bible Lives." But the greater part of the controversy excited by the book bore upon the problem of "the Inerrancy of the Bible." This accounts for the addition of chapters four and five. In reply to hints from those who have used the book in College Class work, I have expounded and confirmed some statements, sometimes in the text, and at others, in appended notes. As each year I have studied it afresh, my sense Of its importance has increased; and in examining the accumulating litera ture on the topic in books, reviews, and newspapers, I have felt moved to get closer to the original sources, and have determined to ask the attention of the public to a study Of it specially from a Biblical standpoint. Book The Bible as English Literature Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Bible as English Literature Classic Reprint written by J. H. Gardiner and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible as English Literature This book springs from a course of study which I have offered for several years at Harvard University in the Department of English. In this course my object has been to make students as familiar as possible with the English Bible, and to throw light on its literary forms by bringing together facts from the history of its sources and from the history of the translation into English. For the latter purpose I have drawn freely on the larger results of the great school of learning which is commonly known as the Higher Criticism. This is in itself, as has often been pointed out, merely a critical study of the various books of both Old and New Testaments from the historical point of view; it arrives at its results by a faithful comparison of the various parts with each other, and by bringing to bear on them all pertinent facts from the monuments and other external sources of history. There are many good men to whom the notions, learned half unconsciously at a Christian mother's knee, are \very' dear and, sufficiently true for the guidance of life - many to whom newer views would be but a source of disturbance. It is perhaps not needful for them to inquire any farther. Let them rest in peace, feeding on God's green pastures beside His still waters.
