Book excerpt: Grow in Greater Intimacy with God As a woman who wants to follow Jesus in her everyday life, you yearn for intimacy with God. You long to know His presence, to be satisfied in heart and soul, but you don't know how. You feel like you're trudging through your days, making sure you're doing everything you can for Him . . . but you can't shake the feeling that something is missing. Linda Dillow understands. She longed for depth of intimacy with God, but in the middle of a busy and complicated life, realized that she'd settled for serving Him. And when our actions for God are our primary focus, we miss the extraordinary honor of getting to be with Him. So how can we be with Him? Through a life of worship. True worship is both a specific act and a lifestyle. As you learn what it means to bow your knee (the act of worship), you'll gain a renewed intimacy with God. And as you learn to bow your thoughts, words, work, attitudes, will, and even pain (the lifestyle of worship), you'll be drawn into God's holy and life-giving presence--the place where He will truly satisfy your thirsty soul.

Book A Look Into a Woman s Soul

  • Pages : 190 pages

Download or read book A Look Into a Woman s Soul written by Jordan Austin and published by . This book was released on 2011-05 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Look into A Woman's Soul ( is a brilliantly written work filled with depth, perception, honesty, forgiveness, and love. The author "Jordan Austin" has done it, again, with this mystifying look into what many women think, feel, and experience; but yet are never able to fully express. Except Austin has done just that. When asked precisely how she had managed to accomplish this marvel, she had smiled and had intently stated, "It wasn't me. It was through God's power working within me because left to myself, there is no way I could have written anything as truthful, heart-felt, and real as the words that I had put down on the paper." Austin's humbleness is an inspiration in itself. Although many have commented on the "impressive verses, word choice, alliteration," and "unique subject matter" of her poetry; she continues to take no credit for herself, but she continues to offer all glory to God. She said He is and always will be her greatest inspiration. One of her deepest desires is to touch as many people as she is able through her writings; and in doing so, hopefully they will begin their own quest for a deeper and more personal relationship with a God of their understanding. The poems, written in "free verse" range in subject matter from letting go of an "unhealthy relationship" to being a "warrior for God." Although the poems are geared towards the "female" population, there are excerpts that men who are "emotionally mature" enough will absolutely enjoy and come to appreciate and better understand not just the "heart" of any woman in his life, but he also will be given a glimpse into a "true woman of integrity's" soul. The factual life of Austin has been less than perfect, and this "true life" account of some of its deepest, most intimate details are so brilliantly recorded on paper that the reader will know first hand about exactly what the author had been experiencing at the time she had written each poem. Austin has expressed in various interviews that writing is not just something she does, it is more accurately about "what she is." This makes perfect sense after reading just one of her selections. She does not just write words on paper, as the words are intermingled so cleverly that they bring with them a new meaning to what would normally even be the most mundane of topics. She continues to write and to pray that "God" will someday "bless" her by allowing her to be a full-time writer and a "motivational speaker." If this book is any indication of her dreams coming true, it would be safe to say that this one will definitely be the one to do it.

Book The Soul of a Woman

Download or read book The Soul of a Woman written by Isabel Allende and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: _______________ 'An autobiographical meditation on feminism, power and womanhood ... Full of Isabel's wisdom and warm words' - Grazia 'In her small, potent polemic . . . Isabel Allende writes about the toxic effects of “machismo”, combining wit with anger as she picks apart the patriarchy' - Independent 'Allende has everything it takes: the ear, the eye, the mind, the heart, the all-encompassing humanity' - New York Times An Independent, Guardian and Grazia Highlight for 2021 _______________ The wise, warm, defiant new book from literary legend Isabel Allende – a meditation on power, feminism and what it means to be a woman When I say that I was a feminist in kindergarten, I am not exaggerating. As a child, Isabel Allende watched her mother, abandoned by her husband, provide for her three small children. As a young woman coming of age in the late 1960s, she rode the first wave of feminism. She has seen what has been accomplished by the movement in the course of her lifetime. And over the course of three marriages, she has learned how to grow as a woman while having a partner, when to step away, and the rewards of embracing one's sexuality. So what do women want? To be safe, to be valued, to live in peace, to have their own resources, to be connected, to have control over their bodies and lives, and above all, to be loved. On all these fronts, there is much work to be done, and this book, Allende hopes, will 'light the torch of our daughters and granddaughters with mine. They will have to live for us, as we lived for our mothers, and carry on with the work still left to be finished.' _______________ 'Her thoughts, language and ideas traverse fluidly through ideas of gender, historic injustices, her marriages and bodily experiences and literary references . . . Allende's love for women is palpable' - Sydney Morning Herald

Intimate, revealing, provocative, Communion challenges every woman to courageously claim the search for love as the heroic journey we must all choose to be truly free. Book How to Fall in Love with Anyone

Download or read book How to Fall in Love with Anyone written by Mandy Len Catron and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-06-27 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A beautifully written and well-researched cultural criticism as well as an honest memoir” (Los Angeles Review of Books) from the author of the popular New York Times essay, “To Fall in Love with Anyone, Do This,” explores the romantic myths we create and explains how they limit our ability to achieve and sustain intimacy. What really makes love last? Does love ever work the way we say it does in movies and books and Facebook posts? Or does obsessing over those love stories hurt our real-life relationships? When her parents divorced after a twenty-eight year marriage and her own ten-year relationship ended, those were the questions that Mandy Len Catron wanted to answer. In a series of candid, vulnerable, and wise essays that takes a closer look at what it means to love someone, be loved, and how we present our love to the world, “Catron melds science and emotion beautifully into a thoughtful and thought-provoking meditation” (Bookpage). She delves back to 1944, when her grandparents met in a coal mining town in Appalachia, to her own dating life as a professor in Vancouver. She uses biologists’ research into dopamine triggers to ask whether the need to love is an innate human drive. She uses literary theory to show why we prefer certain kinds of love stories. She urges us to question the unwritten scripts we follow in relationships and looks into where those scripts come from. And she tells the story of how she decided to test an experiment that she’d read about—where the goal was to create intimacy between strangers using a list of thirty-six questions—and ended up in the surreal situation of having millions of people following her brand-new relationship. “Perfect fodder for the romantic and the cynic in all of us” (Booklist), How to Fall in Love with Anyone flips the script on love. “Clear-eyed and full of heart, it is mandatory reading for anyone coping with—or curious about—the challenges of contemporary courtship” (The Toronto Star).
