Ciertamente, esta obra resultará también de interés para el alumnado en formación de otros contextos universitarios, así como para todos aquellos profesionales de la educación que tengan interés en actualizar sus conocimientos sobre esta temática. En efecto, se hace cada vez más necesario que el profesorado tenga un amplio conocimiento sobre la atención a la diversidad e inclusión educativa, especialmente en lo referido a la consideración y atención al alumnado con necesidades de tipo intelectual, motórico y sensorial (tanto auditivo como visual) en sus primeros años escolares, donde la atención temprana cobra vital relevancia. Es aquí, por tanto, donde se sitúan las finalidades de esta obra, encaminada, desde los antecedentes señalados, a formar docentes comprometidos con la equidad e igualdad real de oportunidades de la totalidad de estudiantes. En consecuencia, se pretende ofrecer un conocimiento teórico amplio para detectar al alumnado objeto de consideración, identificando las notas esenciales que lo definen. Este conocimiento teórico constituye el punto de partida para el posterior abordaje práctico, centrado en dar una necesaria respuesta a sus características y necesidades, así como elaborar una intervención sustentada en la inclusión educativa y en el Diseño Universal para el Aprendizaje. Con la pretensión de dar justa y necesaria resolución a este elenco de finalidades, la obra se organiza en seis capítulos, que transitan de lo general a lo particular, de la teoría a la práctica. Así, tras un primer acercamiento a la atención a la diversidad desde un enfoque clarificador y comprensivo (capítulo 1), se abordan las necesidades de tipo intelectual (capítulo 2), motórico (capítulo 3), visual (capítulo 4) y auditivo (capítulo 5). El dominio de esta vertiente teórica permitirá al lector transitar hacia la aplicación práctica (capítulo 6), mediante la presentación de diversos casos prácticos reales contextualizados en Educación Infantil y Educación Primaria. Procede reiterar el carácter didáctico y educativo de la propuesta que nos ocupa. En consecuencia, la totalidad de capítulos indicados comparten una estructura común, que se inicia con la presentación inicial del capítulo correspondiente, destacando los principales núcleos temáticos mediante un mapa conceptual visual y objetivos perseguidos, momento en el cual se presentan, también, una serie de preguntas clave que permitirán a los lectores reflexionar y tomar conciencia de sus conocimientos previos sobre la temática, además de actuar como elementos generadores de motivación. Posteriormente, se abordan los contenidos del capítulo organizados mediante diversos apartados y subapartados con orden de nivel, que transitan de lo general a lo particular, a través de un desarrollo sencillo y cercano, incluyendo diversas figuras y tablas que facilitan la compresión de la materia tratada. Concluye cada capítulo con una síntesis que resume y prioriza las principales ideas abordadas, junto con la propuesta de diversas referencias de ampliación que permitirán al lector profundizar en la temática, y una serie de ejercicios de autoevaluación que le posibilitarán comprobar el avance efectuado en los contenidos propuestos. Se cierra el conjunto de la obra con un glosario, que recoge los principales términos del campo considerados en el desarrollo de la misma, junto con un punto final de referencias bibliográficas donde se reflejan la totalidad de fuentes de información utilizadas en la elaboración de los capítulos. En efecto, tanto la organización como la estructura de este material facilitan la autonomía en el aprendizaje de los contenidos propuestos. Si bien, para que este proceso resulte altamente completo y efectivo, se hace necesario considerar también un decálogo básico de orientaciones para el aprendizaje: • Plantear una lectura inicial rápida de la obra, con la pretensión de alcanzar una idea básica de la estructura, elementos y contenidos básicos a considerar. • Realizar un posterior estudio pausado de los contenidos de todos y cada uno de los capítulos. En este proceso siempre es importante apoyarse en la realización de síntesis temáticas, esquemas y mapas conceptuales. • Realizar los diferentes ejercicios de autoevaluación indicados en cada capítulo, dado que permitirán comprobar el nivel de comprensión, asimilación y avance en los contenidos objeto de estudio. • En caso de interés, considerar las múltiples referencias de ampliación para profundizar en los diferentes temas propuestos. Llegados a este punto, procede aludir a la ya célebre reflexión: la inclusión no es dejar entrar, es dar la bienvenida. Como seres diversos que somos, os damos la bienvenida a esta obra, con la principal pretensión de que, tras su lectura, entre todos hayamos sido capaces de generar una educación un poco más justa, solidaria y equitativa. General nouns are defined as high-frequency nouns that are characterized by their textual functions. Although the concept is motivated by Halliday & Hasan (1976), the corpus theoretical approach adopted in the present study is fundamentally different and set in a linguistic framework that prioritizes lexis. The study investigates 20 nouns that are very frequent in mainstream English, as represented by the Bank of English Corpus. The corpus-driven approach to the data involves a critical discussion of descriptive tools, such as patterns, semantic prosodies, and primings of lexical items, and the concept of? local textual functions? is put forward to characterize the functions of the nouns in texts. The study not only suggests a characterization of general nouns, but also stresses that functions of lexical items and properties of texts are closely linked. This link requires new ways of describing language.
