Book Ultra Low Power Integrated Circuit Design for Wireless Neural Interfaces

Download or read book Ultra Low Power Integrated Circuit Design for Wireless Neural Interfaces written by Jeremy Holleman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-29 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will describe ultra low-power, integrated circuits and systems designed for the emerging field of neural signal recording and processing, and wireless communication. Since neural interfaces are typically implanted, their operation is highly energy-constrained. This book introduces concepts and theory that allow circuit operation approaching the fundamental limits. Design examples and measurements of real systems are provided. The book will describe circuit designs for all of the critical components of a neural recording system, including: Amplifiers which utilize new techniques to improve the trade-off between good noise performance and low power consumption. Analog and mixed-signal circuits which implement signal processing tasks specific to the neural recording application: Detection of neural spikes Extraction of features that describe the spikes Clustering, a machine learning technique for sorting spikes Weak-inversion operation of analog-domain transistors, allowing processing circuits that reduce the requirements for analog-digital conversion and allow low system-level power consumption. Highly-integrated, sub-mW wireless transmitter designed for the Medical Implant Communications Service (MICS) and ISM bands.

Book Microprocessor Interface Design

Download or read book Microprocessor Interface Design written by Jean-Daniel Nicoud and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991-10-31 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to come up with a reasonably optimized result when designing a hardware interface for a microprocessor or a specialized application, a designer must be quite knowledgeable and constantly keep abreast of new developments. Not only must he master traditional methods used for logic systems but he must also be familiar with a wide range of solutions and a technology which never stops progressing. The CMOS and TTL integrated circuit families include the basic bricks used to build an interface, although prefabricated modules of various sizes may improve the performance/price ratio. Programmable networks (PLD, PAL ®, GAL ®, etc.) are becoming more and more diversified and gate arrays can justifiably be used for smaller and smaller series. When signals work on low frequencies, they can be read or activated by an appropriately programmed microcontroller, which may work out cheaper than wired logic. Therefore, engineers must never stop improving their knowledge and questioning the developing techniques which they learnt to master and which have proved reliable. This book does not only deal with digital circuits, although the basic idea is to interconnect functional blocks only through logic connections. The word interface here really refers to an interface between a microproces.

Book MOS Interface Physics Process and Characterization

Download or read book MOS Interface Physics Process and Characterization written by Shengkai Wang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-10-05 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electronic device based on Metal Oxide Semiconductor (MOS) structure is the most important component of a large-scale integrated circuit, and is therefore a fundamental building block of the information society. Indeed, high quality MOS structure is the key to achieving high performance devices and integrated circuits. Meanwhile, the control of interface physics, process and characterization methods determine the quality of MOS structure. This book tries to answer five key questions: Why are high-performance integrated circuits bonded together so closely with MOS structure? Which physical phenomena occur in MOS structure? How do these phenomena affect the performance of MOS structure? How can we observe and quantify these phenomena scientifically? How to control the above phenomena through process? Principles are explained based on common experimental phenomena, from sensibility to rationality, via abundant experimental examples focusing on MOS structure, including specific experimental steps with a strong level of operability. This book will be an essential reference for engineers in semiconductor related fields and academics and postgraduates within the field of microelectronics.
