Book Integrated Microinverter and Storage for Portable Photovoltaic Systems

Download or read book Integrated Microinverter and Storage for Portable Photovoltaic Systems written by Khalil Alluhaybi and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent emergence of battery technology has resulted in increased interest in design of an integrated portable photovoltaic panel with a battery pack for stand-alone and grid-connected system. Lithium-ion batteries appear to be an optimal candidate due to high energy density, long cycling life, deep discharge ability, low self-discharge and different shapes such as cylindrical or prismatic styles to obtain an integrated design. The physical integration of the PV panel with batteries must feature scalability, adaptability and easy installation. These requirements validate the microinverter as desired power electronic solution for the proposed system. To eliminate the issues of the PV power fluctuation, various microinverter topologies have been proposed in this dissertation which integrate a battery as a storage element with PV panel. The integrated battery is dedicated to eliminating the intermittent and the excessive power concerns in PV system. This allows the PV, local energy storage, and a smart integrated micro-inverter to be consolidated and mounted as one module on the back of the PV panel. The efficient energy management system will provide stable predictable power in grid-connected applications. The topologies feature either five or six power flow scenarios based on the power generated by PV module, the grid requirement and the battery state of charge. The power flow scenarios can be as follows: 1) Only PV module providing power to the grid. 2) Only battery providing power to the grid. 3) PV module providing power to the grid while charging the battery. 4) Both PV and battery providing power to the grid. 5) PV module charging the battery. 6) The grid charging the battery. All power flow scenarios are achieved with single-stage conversion between three ports with faster response, low component counts, compact size and centralized control to manage the power among the ports.

Book Three port Micro inverter with Power Decoupling Capability for Photovoltaic PV Systems Applications

Download or read book Three port Micro inverter with Power Decoupling Capability for Photovoltaic PV Systems Applications written by Souhib Mohammad Ali Harb and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Photovoltaic (PV) systems have been realized using different architectures, starting with the string and centralized PV system to the modular PV system. Presently, decentralized inverters are being developed at the PV panel power level (known as AC-PV Modules). Such new PV systems are becoming more attractive and many expect this will be the trend of the future. The AC-Module PV system consists of an inverter attached to one PV panel. This integration requires that both devices have the same life-span. Although, the available commercial inverters have a relatively short life-span (10 years) compared to the 25 -year PV. It has been stated in literature that the energy storage capacitor (electrolytic type) in the single-phase inverter is the most vulnerable electronic component. Hence, many techniques such as (power decoupling techniques) have been proposed to solve this problem by replacing the large electrolytic capacitor with a small film capacitor. This thesis will present a quick review of these power decoupling techniques, and proposes a new three-port micro-inverter with power decoupling capability for AC-Module PV system applications.

Book Solar Cells and Their Applications

Download or read book Solar Cells and Their Applications written by Lewis M. Fraas and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2010-07-13 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major update of solar cell technology and the solar marketplace Since the first publication of this important volume over a decade ago, dramatic changes have taken place with the solar market growing almost 100-fold and the U.S. moving from first to fourth place in the world market as analyzed in this Second Edition. Three bold new opportunities are identified for any countries wanting to improve market position. The first is combining pin solar cells with 3X concentration to achieve economic competitiveness near term. The second is charging battery-powered cars with solar cell–generated electricity from arrays in surrounding areas—including the car owners' homes—while simultaneously reducing their home electricity bills by over ninety percent. The third is formation of economic "unions" of sufficient combined economic size to be major competitors. In this updated edition, feed-in tariffs are identified as the most effective approach for public policy. Reasons are provided to explain why pin solar cells outperform more traditional pn solar cells. Field test data are reported for nineteen percent pin solar cells and for ~500X concentrating systems with bare cell efficiencies approaching forty percent. Paths to bare cell efficiencies over fifty percent are described, and key missing program elements are identified. Since government support is needed for new technology prototype integration and qualification testing before manufacturing scale up, the key economic measure is identified in this volume as the electricity cost in cents per kilowatt-hour at the complete installed system level, rather than just the up-front solar cell modules' costs in dollars per watt. This Second Edition will benefit technologists in the fields of solar cells and systems; solar cell researchers; power systems designers; academics studying microelectronics, semiconductors, and solar cells; business students and investors with a technical focus; and government and political officials developing public policy.

Book DC DC Converter Topologies

Download or read book DC DC Converter Topologies written by Gerry Moschopoulos and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-01-31 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive look at DC-DC converters and advanced power converter topologies for all skills levels As it can be rare for source voltage to meet the requirements of a Direct Current (DC) load, DC-DC converters are essential to access service. DC-DC power converters employ power semiconductor devices (like MOSFETs and IGBTs) as switches and passive elements such as capacitors, inductors, and transformers to alter the voltage provided by a DC source into the necessary DC voltage as is required by a DC load. This source can be a battery, solar panels, fuel cells, or a DC bus voltage fed by rectified AC utility voltage. As the many components of DC-DC converters can be differently arranged into circuit structures called topologies, there are as many possible circuit topologies as there are possible combinations of circuit elements. Focusing on DC-DC switch-mode power converters ranging from 50 W to 10kW, DC-DC Converter Topologies provides a survey of all converter topology types within this power range. General principles are described for each topology type using a representative converter as an example. Variations that can be found that differ from the example are then examined, with a helpful discussion of comparisons when relevant. A broad range of topics is covered within the book, from simple, low-power converters to complex, high-power converters and everywhere in between. DC-DC Converter Topologies readers will also find: A detailed discussion of four key DC-DC converter topologies Description of isolated two-switch pulse-width modulated (PWM) topologies including push-pull, half-bridge, and interleaved converters An exploration of high-gain converters such as coupled inductors, voltage multipliers, and switched capacitor converters This book provides the tools so that a non-expert will be equipped to deal with the vast array of DC-DC converters that presently exist. As such, DC-DC Converter Topologies is a useful reference for electrical engineers, professors, and graduate students studying in the field.
