Book Knowledge Discovery in Spatial Data

Download or read book Knowledge Discovery in Spatial Data written by Yee Leung and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-14 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I ?rst came across the term data mining and knowledge discovery in databases, I was excited and curious to ?nd out what it was all about. I was excited because the term tends to convey a new ?eld that is in the making. I was curious because I wondered what it was doing that the other ?elds of research, such as statistics and the broad ?eld of arti?cial intelligence, were not doing. After reading up on the literature, I have come to realize that it is not much different from conventional data analysis. The commonly used de?nition of knowledge discovery in databases: “the non-trivial process of identifying valid, novel, potentially useful, and ultimately understandable patterns in data” is actually in line with the core mission of conventional data analysis. The process employed by conventional data analysis is by no means trivial, and the patterns in data to be unraveled have, of course, to be valid, novel, useful and understandable. Therefore, what is the commotion all about? Careful scrutiny of the main lines of research in data mining and knowledge discovery again told me that they are not much different from that of conventional data analysis. Putting aside data warehousing and database m- agement aspects, again a main area of research in conventional database research, the rest of the tasks in data mining are largely the main concerns of conventional data analysis.

Book Generative Artificial Intelligence and Ethics Standards Guidelines and Best Practices

Download or read book Generative Artificial Intelligence and Ethics Standards Guidelines and Best Practices written by Gaur, Loveleen and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2024-10-10 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has brought about significant ethical challenges. As machines become more adept at creating human-like content, concerns about misuse, bias, privacy, and accountability have emerged. Without clear guidelines and regulations, there is a risk of unethical use, such as creating deepfake videos or disseminating misinformation, which could have severe societal consequences. Additionally, questions about intellectual property rights and the ownership of AI-generated creations still need to be solved, further complicating the ethical landscape. The book, Generative Artificial Intelligence and Ethics: Standards, Guidelines, and Best Practices, comprehensively solves these ethical challenges. By providing insights into the historical development and key milestones of Generative AI, the book lays a foundation for understanding its complex ethical implications. It examines existing ethical frameworks and proposes new ones tailored to AI's unique characteristics, helping readers apply traditional ethics to AI development and deployment.

Book Restoring Students Innate Power

Download or read book Restoring Students Innate Power written by Louise El Yaafouri and published by ASCD. This book was released on 2022-03-31 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the effects of trauma on newcomer students and presents stress-mitigating strategies that empower these multilingual students as they transition to a new environment. Diverse insights and experiences bring high-powered learning spaces to life. However, the cultural backgrounds of newcomer students and their families can be very different from the dominant norms of the new community, resulting in misalignments that constitute a persistent challenge. In addition, the process of arriving can exacerbate stress. Entering a new school or classroom means situating oneself within a new context of language, culture, community, and shifting personal identities. This transition shock contributes to a sense of diminished power. In serving these students, we can't afford to leave transition shock out of our conversations about trauma. We must not only stitch together pieces of culturally responsive practice and trauma-informed care but also become practitioners of stress-mitigating strategies that empower newcomer students. We must focus instruction on our students' unique identities. We must restore their power. In Restoring Students' Innate Power, newcomer educator and cultural competency expert Louise El Yaafouri presents * An understanding of transition shock and how stress and trauma affect recent arrivers. * The four pillars of transition shock and how they affect learning. * How students see themselves and how the cultural aspects of their identities inform teachers' work in mitigating transition shock. * How social-emotional learning links to trauma-informed practice. This book isn't exclusively about trauma; it's about restoring power. The distinction is critical. Focusing on the trauma or traumatic event roots us in the past. Restoration of power moves us forward.

Book Sparse and Redundant Representations

Download or read book Sparse and Redundant Representations written by Michael Elad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-12 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A long long time ago, echoing philosophical and aesthetic principles that existed since antiquity, William of Ockham enounced the principle of parsimony, better known today as Ockham’s razor: “Entities should not be multiplied without neces sity. ” This principle enabled scientists to select the ”best” physical laws and theories to explain the workings of the Universe and continued to guide scienti?c research, leadingtobeautifulresultsliketheminimaldescriptionlength approachtostatistical inference and the related Kolmogorov complexity approach to pattern recognition. However, notions of complexity and description length are subjective concepts anddependonthelanguage“spoken”whenpresentingideasandresults. The?eldof sparse representations, that recently underwent a Big Bang like expansion, explic itly deals with the Yin Yang interplay between the parsimony of descriptions and the “language” or “dictionary” used in them, and it became an extremely exciting area of investigation. It already yielded a rich crop of mathematically pleasing, deep and beautiful results that quickly translated into a wealth of practical engineering applications. You are holding in your hands the ?rst guide book to Sparseland, and I am sure you’ll ?nd in it both familiar and new landscapes to see and admire, as well as ex cellent pointers that will help you ?nd further valuable treasures. Enjoy the journey to Sparseland! Haifa, Israel, December 2009 Alfred M. Bruckstein vii Preface This book was originally written to serve as the material for an advanced one semester (fourteen 2 hour lectures) graduate course for engineering students at the Technion, Israel.

Download or read book The Thirteenth Apostle written by J. A. Bouma and published by EmmausWay Press. This book was released on 2018-06-17 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if the story of Jesus isn’t the one that happened? After terrorists attack a cathedral in Chicago and steal an ancient relic belonging to one of Jesus’ apostles, ex-Army Ranger and professor of religious studies Silas Grey chances upon someone from his past who appears with a remarkable offer. Eli Denton invites Silas to help him verify one of early Christianity’s most recent—and most controversial—archaeological finds: The Gospel of Judas. Containing “the secret account of the revelation that Jesus spoke with Judas Iscariot,” it tells a remarkably different story than the one contained in the Church’s recognized Gospels. But the motives of this long-lost friend are mysterious, and the consequences for Silas’s faith are ominous. Meanwhile, the Order of Thaddeus, ancient defender of the Christian faith, discovers the stolen apostle relic is part of a larger conspiracy that grows in significance and severity with each passing day. With this grave threat against the apostolic memory deepening, Silas’s mission to uncover the mysteries of the Gospel of Judas and motives of his friend is made more urgent—but there are doubts, and his efforts are thwarted at every turn. Can he preserve the eyewitness memory of Jesus’ earliest apostles before Jesus’ story is altered forever? The Thirteenth Apostle is the second book in the bestselling Order of Thaddeus action-adventure thriller series that leverages the familiar conspiracy suspense of Dan Brown and special-ops thrill of James Rollins, wrapped in the historical insight of Steve Berry and inspiration of Ted Dekker. Join this explosively inventive, action-packed adventure by emerging author J. A. Bouma, straddling thrill and thought, faith and doubt—a ride people are saying “will not only excite and thrill you but give you something to think about and inspire you.”
