Book Indicators and Policies to Make Work Pay

Download or read book Indicators and Policies to Make Work Pay written by Giuseppe Carone and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Commission's Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs hosted a workshop on making-work-pay policies and indicators in March 2005, a particularly opportune moment to discuss these issues since it coincided with the new start for the Lisbon strategy with its increased focus on growth and jobs. The purpose of the workshop was to contribute to the debate on reforms of tax and benefit systems. It took stock of the most recent studies by academic researchers in this area and brought some recently developed indicators on work incentives to the attention of the participants. It also provided an opportunity for discussion between academic researchers and labour market experts in national administrations and EU institutions. The papers presented in the workshop demonstrate that there are tangible benefits in bringing together academic researchers and national policy-makers to exploit research findings, compare experiences and exchange best practices to shape further reforms. This volume brings those contributions together. They shed light on highly topical issues such as indicators on incentives, the role of incentives, eligibility rules and enforcement, the responsiveness of labour supply and the lessons that can be learnt from national labour market reforms.

This book was released on 2006-03-08 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ROBERT C. GRANGER William T. Grant Foundation During the past 10 years or so, a number of researchers, policymakers, and prac- tioners have made important progress on the identi?cation and use of indicators of children’s well-being. The United States federal government, via the Department of Health and Human Services and the National Institutes of Health, as well as such private funders as the Annie E. Casey Foundation, have supported many of these efforts. During this time, the William T. Grant Foundation, who was not a primary funder of such activities, was nevertheless one of the many institutions bene?ting from the work. Fortunately, Asher Ben-Arieh, Larry Aber, and Bob Goerge persuaded us to support a working conference on how to assess the effects of indicator usage on policiesandprograms.Thisvolumeistheresultoftheirtalentsandtheclearthinking of many of their colleagues. It is my pleasure to introduce the volume with a few thoughts about its contributions and the questions that remain.

Book Working with Economic Indicators

Download or read book Working with Economic Indicators written by Donald N. Stengel and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2011-12-30 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Executives and managers hear or read headlines about recent economic data nearly every business day. Most important economic statistics are the products of programs designed to collect and analyze data to report summary results at regular intervals. Properly interpreted, these economic indicators provide useful barometers for different aspects of the economy and identify trends that aid better planning decisions. Economic indicators are available at the national level, state level, and even the regional and municipal level. This text focuses on economic indicators for the overall U.S. economy, identifying major categories of economic indicators and describing the key indicators in each of the categories. The text will also provide guidance for interpreting indicators expressed in terms of an index (which reports values as percentage of a base period value) or in real dollar values (which remove the impact of inflation.) Most key economic indicators are reported promptly on the World Wide Web and provided as formatted time series that can be readily downloaded and analyzed. The text will include links to the sources for key economic indicators as well as websites that maintain calendars of upcoming announcements and consensus forecasts of the indicators shortly prior to a formal announcement. This book is a companion to two other Business Expert Press by the authors that address managerial economics and time series data/forecasting. Together these books will equip the manager and the student with a solid understanding of economic indicators and how to analyze them.
