Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is full of illusions. Sometimes life makes us believe that things are always going to be the same despite the fact of how good or bad you are, and then all of a sudden it hits us with a sudden realization of reality where everything turns upside down. One event, one person, one sentence or even one decision can change your life forever. It shows a whole new world in front of you to which you have been blind the whole time, and that whole new perspective confuses you since you are not used to it. We are left alone and confused in that state that consumes a lot of time from our present; if not addressed properly, it will rob our joy from the future too. The story that I'm going to say is also something like this. I have learned a lot from life, and I wanted you to know that no matter how hard your situation can be, just remember that it is just one of the pages in your book and you never know what comes next. I'm Kiruthika Nagesh, and this is my story.

I went to the broken mirror in my room and stood in front of it where I can see my admirable and attractive eyes, a straight-edged nose, strawberry-colored lips, snow-colored skin tone, and coal-like long hair in different pieces of the mirror. I restively sat by managing myself not to trap into his blazing eyes. I know that the boy is trying to flirt with me. But my mother is unable to understand the boy's intention..."I like you uh-huh-hmm...I love you. I am saying this word with a huge responsibility; I will be with you in hard times. Will you agree to follow in my footsteps?" I screamed loudly in my room by saying, "my dream has an expiry date, I need to accomplish it before it gets expired. But now there is no way for me except to nod my head. My hard work just went like a dead horse." She took mic close to her lips and announced "The winner in 2019 is...it's none other than..." Who is 'I' here? Who is the boy here? How can a dream has an expiry date? Who announced what? Did the person won or lost?

Book The People Have Never Stopped Dancing

Download or read book The People Have Never Stopped Dancing written by Jacqueline Shea Murphy and published by U of Minnesota Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past thirty years, Native American dance has emerged as a visible force on concert stages throughout North America. In this first major study of contemporary Native American dance, Jacqueline Shea Murphy shows how these performances are at once diverse and connected by common influences. Demonstrating the complex relationship between Native and modern dance choreography, Shea Murphy delves first into U.S. and Canadian federal policies toward Native performance from the late nineteenth through the early twentieth centuries, revealing the ways in which government sought to curtail authentic ceremonial dancing while actually encouraging staged spectacles, such as those in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West shows. She then engages the innovative work of Ted Shawn, Lester Horton, and Martha Graham, highlighting the influence of Native American dance on modern dance in the twentieth century. Shea Murphy moves on to discuss contemporary concert dance initiatives, including Canada’s Aboriginal Dance Program and the American Indian Dance Theatre. Illustrating how Native dance enacts, rather than represents, cultural connections to land, ancestors, and animals, as well as spiritual and political concerns, Shea Murphy challenges stereotypes about American Indian dance and offers new ways of recognizing the agency of bodies on stage. Jacqueline Shea Murphy is associate professor of dance studies at the University of California, Riverside, and coeditor of Bodies of the Text: Dance as Theory, Literature as Dance.

Out of this milieu, the Girl Guide movement emerged as a response to modern concerns about gender, race, class, and social instability. In this book, Kristine Alexander analyzes the ways in which Guiding sought to mould young people in England, Canada, and India. It is a fascinating account that connects the histories of girlhood, internationalism, and empire, while asking how girls and young women understood and responded to Guiding’s attempts to lead them toward a “useful” feminine future.
