Book excerpt: This book is about a horrific murder. No one deserves to be slaughtered like this victim was, and again, like most evildoings, it was over money. "The love of money is the root of all evil." I never thought this adage to be completely true until this murder case, and my eyes were opened. It is true. The house where this murder occurred is cursed and haunted to this day. For some reason, possibly because of my religious beliefs, I have not had any spiritual problems during and after the serving of four search warrants at this house, but several other officers and crime scene personnel did. I cannot stress the fact enough that this house is evil. I don't know the reason why, but many others have sensed the evil in this property, especially the house, and they refuse to do any more searches with me in this house. And I have decided to never give the location of this house-ever-because I have witnessed what it has done to other people's souls.

Download or read book The Counterterrorism Handbook written by Frank Bolz, Jr. and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-07-26 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terrorists constantly present new challenges to law enforcement, emergency response teams, security planners, and others involved in counterterrorism. Since the last edition of this volume was published, additional atrocities have occurred and new threats have surfaced. The fourth edition of The Counterterrorism Handbook: Tactics, Procedures, and Techniques provides the latest developments and offers new insights on the War on Terror. Updated to reflect an increased focus on terrorism in public transportation, this volume provides an understanding of the strategies, tactics, and techniques required to tackle terrorism as it exists today. It illustrates essential topics such as the elements common to all terrorism, bomb threats, risk assessment, hostages, and weapons of mass destruction. It also presents case studies of some of the most notorious terrorist incidents, including both World Trade Center attacks, Oklahoma City, Centennial Olympic Park, the U.S. Embassy, the U.S.S. Cole, and attacks in Madrid, London, and Glasgow. The only way to effectively deal with terrorism is to have a thorough understanding of its present-day characteristics — who is involved and what weapons and tactics they are likely to use. In language friendly to first responders, this volume presents a comprehensive strategy of how to deal with a whole gamut of possible terrorist incidents. Covering everything from bombings and hostage-taking to nuclear terrorism, the book describes in specific detail what needs to be done before, during, and after an event. Armed with this information, those charged with protecting the public will be better equipped to face myriad threats.

Book Countering the Threat of Improvised Explosive Devices

Download or read book Countering the Threat of Improvised Explosive Devices written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-07-28 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attacks in London, Madrid, Bali, Oklahoma City and other places indicate that improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are among the weapons of choice of terrorists throughout the world. Scientists and engineers have developed various technologies that have been used to counter individual IED attacks, but events in Iraq and elsewhere indicate that the effectiveness of IEDs as weapons of asymmetric warfare remains. The Office of Naval Research has asked The National Research Council to examine the current state of knowledge and practice in the prevention, detection, and mitigation of the effects of IEDs and make recommendations for avenues of research toward the goal of making these devices an ineffective tool of asymmetric warfare. The book includes recommendations such as identifying the most important and most vulnerable elements in the chain of events leading up to an IED attack, determining how resources can be controlled in order to prevent the construction of IEDs, new analytical methods and data modeling to predict the ever-changing behavior of insurgents/terrorists, a deeper understanding of social divisions in societies, enhanced capabilities for persistent surveillance, and improved IED detection capabilities.
