Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Transitioning to rural practice can be daunting for both experienced nurses and new graduates who have an urban orientation and are accustomed to specialized practice with abundant health care resources. Since most nursing education programs and practicing nurses are located in urban settings, programs are needed to prepare nurses who choose rural practice. In their book, Dr. Molinari and Dr. Bushy provide excellent examples of practice models from North America, New Zealand, and Australia with curricula that address transition issues. The text makes a significant contribution to the discussion about how to best prepare nurses for rural practice and will be of interest to administrators, educators, and clinicians. From the Foreward by Charlene A. Winters, PhD, APRN, ACNS-BC Associate Professor Montana State University College of Nursing This is the only volume to address the pressing need for practical information about transitioning from an urban-based nursing education or practice to a rural health care environment. It provides successful strategies that nurses in rural settings can use to develop, implement, and evaluate innovative programs that will meet the needs of individual rural communities. The book details current rural nursing transition-to-practice trends and issues, national standards, and evidence-based model programs worldwide. Rural practice culture is described along with professional education issues, competency, patient care, and safety. Chapters are presented in easy-to-access formats that offer ready solutions for problems commonly encountered in rural practice such as nurse recruitment and retention. In addition to health care delivery issues for specific rural populations, the book presents program descriptions from local to state levels, including locally developed education programs, urban hospital systems outreach to rural facilities, universities collaborating with rural businesses, city-based workshops, statewide competencies tracked by employers, and a distance education program customized by rural agencies. Case studies demonstrate how rural facilities-even the smallest and most isolated-are advancing health care through nurse support. The text will be of value to rural nursing staff developers, critical access hospitals and community clinic administrators, rural professional organizations, small urban health facilities, continuing education providers, nursing workforce centers, and graduate programs. Key Features: The first transition from academia-to-practice guide for rural nursing Charts evidence-based successes and offers model programs in different rural settings Provides rural-specific information to facilitate statewide health mandates Features residency program development processes, with tips and tools that work

Book Implementing the Primary Health Care approach a primer

Download or read book Implementing the Primary Health Care approach a primer written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2024-05-15 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Primer is about the 'how' of primary health care (PHC) and brings together best practices and knowledge that countries have generated through 'natural experiments' in strengthening PHC with the best available research evidence. Despite the progress made towards PHC globally, the concept is still often misunderstood, even within the public health community. The Primer offers a contemporary understanding of PHC and more conceptual clarity for strengthening PHC-oriented health systems. It does so by consolidating both scientific evidence and an extensive sample of practical experiences across countries for the needed evidence to address practical implementation issues. The Primer is organized in three parts. Part I explains the PHC approach, its history, core concepts and rationale, and draws out lessons for transformation. Part II addresses operational and strategic levers that make PHC work. It covers governance, financing and human resources for health, medicines, health technology, infrastructure and digital health, and their role in implementing change. Part III concludes with a cross-cutting view of the impacts of PHC on the health system, efficiency, quality of care, equity, access, financial protection and health systems resilience, including in the face of climate change.

Book Revitalizing Health for All

Download or read book Revitalizing Health for All written by International Development Research Centr and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2017-06-30 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of Comprehensive Primary Health Care focuses on health system efforts to improve equity in health care access, community empowerment, participation of marginalized groups, and actions on the social determinants of health. Despite its existence since the late 1970s very few studies have been able to highlight the outcomes of this concept, until now. Revitalizing Health for All examines thirteen cases of efforts to implement CPHC reforms from around the globe including Australia, Brazil, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, South Africa, and more. The findings presented in this volume originate from an international action-research set of studies that utilized triads of senior and junior researchers and knowledge users from each country’s public health system. Primary health care reform is an important policy discourse both at the national level in these countries and in the global conversations, and this volume reveals the similarities among CPHC projects in diverse national contexts. These similarities provide a rich evidence base from which future CPHC reform initiatives can draw, regardless of their country.

Book Tracking Resources For Primary Health Care A Framework And Practices In Low And Middle income Countries

Download or read book Tracking Resources For Primary Health Care A Framework And Practices In Low And Middle income Countries written by Hong Wang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-06-03 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global health community is broadly in agreement that achievement of the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) hinges upon both an escalation of the financial resources dedicated to primary health care (PHC) and a more effective use of those resources: more money, better spent. This book introduces and explicates the end-to-end resource tracking and management (RTM) framework, which includes five components that determine effective and efficient financing for PHC: resource mobilization, allocation, utilization, productivity, and targeting. In addition, this book compiles detailed results from the most recent RTM-based resource tracking efforts for PHC in selected countries. This is to demonstrate how the RTM framework can be used to bring a set of separate resource tracking efforts at different stages of flow of funds into a comprehensive process with an end-to-end 'storyline'. In order to build a functional PHC system that addresses access, quality, and equity issues, this book highlights the key (public) financing issues that researchers, technical advisors, and policy makers would need to address in addition to more resources.

Book Where Next for Primary Health Organisations in New Zealand

Download or read book Where Next for Primary Health Organisations in New Zealand written by Judith Smith and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper sets out a synthesis of five reports commissioned by District Health Boards New Zealand and the Ministry of Health as part of their "change in primary care" project within the Joint Work Programme on Primary Health Care Strategy (PHCS) implementation. The synthesis focuses on the next stage of development for primary health organisations (PHO's) in New Zealand, what needs to change and how the effectiveness of PHO's might be assessed. This report takes as its starting point evidence that implementation of the PHCS has been more successful in relation to reducing the cost of access to care and increasing utilisation of primary care services, whilst struggling to bring about desired changes in terms of extending primary care service provision at the practice level and enabling better integration of a diverse range of primary and community health services accessed by customers." -- Executive summaryp. 1
