Book Implant Therapy in the Geriatric Patient

Download or read book Implant Therapy in the Geriatric Patient written by Daniel Wismeijer and published by Quintessenz Verlag. This book was released on 2019-09-16 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a very successful series of eight previous treatment guides, it seems logical to think about our patients as they grow older and may become frail and more dependent on care. Volume 9 of the ITI Treatment Guide attests to the ITI's holistic approach to implant dentistry and to its professional responsibility for patients who have aged with implant-supported restorations in place, as well as for patients at a more advanced age who, until late in life, can benefit from the progress we have made in terms of the materials and techniques that present-day implant dentistry has to offer. The ITI Treatment Guide series is a compendium of evidence-based implant-therapy techniques and procedures for daily practice. Written by renowned clinicians and supported by contributions from expert practitioners, the ITI Treatment Guides provide a comprehensive overview of various clinical options. The management of different clinical situations is discussed with an emphasis on sound diagnostics, evidencebased treatment concepts, and predictable treatment outcomes with minimal risk to the patient.

Book PATIENTS REPORTED OUTCOME MEASURES OF IMPLANT THERAPY IN THE ELDERS U00f1 FIXED VS REMOVABLE PROSTHESES

Download or read book PATIENTS REPORTED OUTCOME MEASURES OF IMPLANT THERAPY IN THE ELDERS U00f1 FIXED VS REMOVABLE PROSTHESES written by Spadijer Gostovic Aleksandra and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proportion of elderly people (aged 65 and over) is growing faster than any other age group. It is widely agreed that influence oforal health disorders is crucial regarding general health and quality of life of elderly people. Thus, elderly people demand bothfunctionally and socially acceptable dental solution. The aim of this study was to assess patients-reported outcome measures, implant survival rate and incidence of complications ofdental implant therapy in elderly patients with removable and fixed prostheses. Twenty patients older than 65 years with total of 75 implants were examined clinically and radiologically. This was cross-sectionalstudy with 1-11 years follow up period. The implant survival rate and complications were noted. All participants answered to the OralHealth Impact Profile questionnaire to their experiences and satisfaction with the overall implant treatment and its impact on quality oflife.Overall ten years implant survival rate was 93.8%. Quality of life was reported as significantly better in the group with fixed restorationthan in the group with removable ones (p=0.002). Interestingly, significant difference in terms of quality of life was not found betweengroups with and without complications, groups with different general health conditions, various age groups, etc. Biological andtechnical complications occurred in 6.7% and 13.3% of implants, respectively. It was found no significant difference regardingcomplications between mobile and fixed implant-supported prostheses. Two implants out of 75 which were lost in group with fixedprostheses.Within the limitations of the study it can be concluded that both fixed and mobile implant supported prostheses can be considered asstable therapeutic solution for elderly people in the long run in regard to ten-years success rate as well as little incidence ofcomplications. However, it should be highlighted that overall score for patient reported quality of life is significantly better in the groupof fixed restorations.

Book Essential Implant Therapy

Download or read book Essential Implant Therapy written by Nkem Obiechina and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Implants have truly transformed dentistry by giving people safe, stable, and esthetic replacements of natural teeth. Since the first implant was placed in 1965, they have continued to increase in overall efficacy and popularity, where currently a large majority people in the United States know what they are, and how they function. Currently there is very little information for patients who are interested in receiving dental implants. Since most of the books on dental implants are designed for dentists rather than patients. Information that is available on line is also geared towards dentists also. The information that is available for non dentists typically is often in the form of brochures comprised of very general information and line drawings which are often simplistic and do not adequately familiarize them about dental implants. As implantologists, by far the most common questions that I have been asked by patients that are thinking of receiving dental implants is what they feel like when placed, how they will work, and their overall safety and effectiveness. In order to try to answer these questions we put together some information on dental implants so that people are made familiar with the implant components, how they are placed and how they will function in the mouth. We also sought to provide information regarding the rationale behind the implant selection process, and surgical aspects of implant placement as well as provide a history and also recent advances that are associated with implant dentistry. Since dental implants are comprised of two components, the root component that is placed surgically, and the restorative component that represents the crown of a tooth. In order to present information on both aspects of implant therapy, information on both aspects of therapy are provided in order to familiarize patients with information on not only dental implant surgery, but also on implant restorations. Line drawings and case studies including before and after pictures of both surgical and restorative procedures are included in order to provide information for patients about the dental implant procedure. The goal of this book is to provide vital information about dental implants in such a way that will aid patients in deciding whether or not to have dental implants.

Book excerpt: This book is an ideal reference guide for clinicians seeking to improve their decision making and treatment outcomes when placing dental implants in medically compromised patients, in whom conditions for osseointegration and soft tissue healing may be unfavorable. Up-to-date information is provided on the potential impacts of a wide variety of diseases and disorders on dental implant treatment and the factors that need to be considered when deciding on the feasibility of such treatment. More specifically, for each condition possible disease-related changes in the oral environment are explained and key treatment issues are identified, including surgical and prosthodontic aspects and pharmacological considerations. The book will help general dentists, periodontists, and oral surgeons to reduce the risk of treatment failure and complications and to ensure that the implant therapy is successful in achieving excellent quality of life and functional benefits, thereby improving patient satisfaction.

Book Oral Rehabilitation for Compromised and Elderly Patients

Download or read book Oral Rehabilitation for Compromised and Elderly Patients written by Alexandre Mersel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-29 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to help dentists in general practice to improve the results of prosthetic procedures in medically compromised and elderly patients. In particular, it critically scrutinizes various dogmas that govern practitioners’ approaches yet lack sound scientific support and often have an adverse effect on outcomes. Attention is drawn to straightforward procedures that offer significant clinical benefits and to aspects that are too often neglected, such as the impact of systemic diseases. New light is cast, for example, on the taking of dental impressions, the treatment of malocclusions, the making of jaw relation records, the relationship between denture quality and patient satisfaction, and the use of implant-supported overdentures versus traditional complete prostheses (dentures). As Albert Einstein once said, "It is what we think we know that prevents us from learning more." Readers will find that this book helps them to re-examine taken-for-granted elements of their practice, leading to improved care and patient satisfaction.

Book Innovations in Preventive Dentistry

Download or read book Innovations in Preventive Dentistry written by Christian Splieth and published by Quintessenz Verlag. This book was released on 2021-07-01 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prevention is better than healing ... or treatment. Thus, preventive dentistry is a cross-sectional challenge for all fields in dentistry, and one that has already achieved great success, as shown by the caries decline in many countries. The walls between prevention and treatment have recently fallen in caries and periodontal disease, as well as in orthodontics, where guidance of function and space maintenance are a combination of prevention and treatment. This book discusses new developments and innovations in preventive dentistry, from primary "real" prevention to secondary prevention by inactivating initial lesions, and on to tertiary prevention to avoid subsequent progression and complications of manifest oral disease. This evidence base is then translated into clinical dental practice. The book addresses everyone interested or involved in dentistry, including students, the whole dental practice team, educators, health scientists, and policy makers, who want to gain insight into these up-to-date clinical practices and future developments. It intends to make an impact on teaching and all fields of clinical dentistry – not by giving cookbook recipes, but by pointing out the rationale behind the changes in our routines. Presented by an international group of recognized specialists in their fields, the topics include the new understanding and management of caries and periodontal disease, prevention of orthodontic problems, diagnostic approaches, the role of diet and according recommendations for oral health, routes to better oral hygiene, changes in oral disease patterns and their consequences, non- and minimally invasive caries treatment, current fluoride guidelines including the use of silver fluorides, risk management, a common risk-factor approach, facilitating behavior changes, sealants, and probiotics. This broad spectrum is elucidated for the most relevant dental problems from early childhood to seniors to implement preventively oriented dental practice.
