Download or read book Genesis II written by Jaunot Baker and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genesis II is exactly how it sounds-a second Genesis story underneath first Genesis story! There's a "sacred secret" discerned from defining names and pertinent words written in English into their original Hebrew meanings. Genesis II tells the story of two worlds, one of an Adam in the image and likeness of God, and the other of an Adam made from the dust of the ground. It's a world where a woman gives birth to a immortal as well as a mortal "son." It's a world that still exists. It has existed since the beginning of time and resides in a different realm. Genesis II is the key that unlocks the mystery and makes clear the message for humans from God in this generation-our generation.
Download or read book Imagery from Genesis in Holocaust Memoirs written by Deborah Lee Prescott and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the life stories of Holocaust survivors, biblical imagery can be invoked to explicate the unexplainable, to make real the unreal. This text examines the role of Genesis in the autobiographies of survivors. Three main concerns converge: the literary nature of Biblical allusion, the contextual history of the Holocaust, and Midrashic considerations that arise from biblical reference. Chapters examine references to Adam and Eve's expulsion from paradise, Noah's Ark, the Tower of Babel, the Akeda, Jacob's struggle with the angel, and Cain's murder of Abel.
Download or read book Images of Torah From the Second Temple Period to the Middle Ages written by Jeong Mun. Heo and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-06-26 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the way that the Torah was appreciated and interpreted as a text and symbol in Christian and Jewish sources from the Second Temple period through the Middle Ages. It tracks the development and complex interactions of three images of Torah— “God-like,” “Angelic,” and “Messianic”— which are found in late-antique Jewish and Christian materials as well as in medieval kabbalistic and Jewish philosophic sources. It provides a unique template for tracing the development of theological ideas related to the images of Torah and offers a sophisticated and innovative analysis of the relationship between mystical experience, theology, and phenomenology.
Download or read book To the Image of the Trinity written by Donald Juvenal Merriell and published by PIMS. This book was released on 1990 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book's main concern is St. Thomas Aquinas' teaching about the image of the Trinity in man. Aquinas' thought on this subject developed over the years, and so it is necessary to examine carefully the passages in which he deals with the subject at length. The relevance of the subject can be viewed from two angles: in relation to the thought of St. Thomas himself, and to modern theology and contemporary concerns. The concept of the image of God is profoundly interconnected with the Christian doctrine of God and with the Christian view of man.

Download or read book Confronting Vulnerability written by Jonathan Wyn Schofer and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2010-10-15 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While imparting their ethical lessons, rabbinic texts often employ vivid images of death, aging, hunger, defecation, persecution, and drought. In Confronting Vulnerability, Jonathan Wyn Schofer carefully examines these texts to find out why their creators thought that human vulnerability was such a crucial tool for instructing students in the development of exemplary behavior. These rabbinic texts uphold virtues such as wisdom and compassion, propound ideal ways of responding to others in need, and describe the details of etiquette. Schofer demonstrates that these pedagogical goals were achieved through reminders that one’s time on earth is limited and that God is the ultimate master of the world. Consciousness of death and of divine accounting guide students to live better lives in the present. Schofer’s analysis teaches us much about rabbinic pedagogy in late antiquity and also provides inspiration for students of contemporary ethics. Despite their cultural distance, these rabbinic texts challenge us to develop theories and practices that properly address our frailties rather than denying them.

Download or read book Visualizing Law in the Age of the Digital Baroque written by Richard K Sherwin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-23 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visualizing Law in the Age of the Digital Baroque explores the profound impact that visual digital technologies are having on the practice and theory of law. Today, lawyers, judges, and lay jurors face a vast array of visual evidence and visual argument. From videos documenting crimes and accidents to computer displays of their digital simulation, increasingly, the search for fact-based justice inside the courtroom is becoming an offshoot of visual meaning making. But when law migrates to the screen it lives there as other images do, motivating belief and judgment on the basis of visual delight and unconscious fantasies and desires as well as actualities. Law as image also shares broader cultural anxieties concerning not only the truth of the image but also the mimetic capacity itself, the human ability to represent reality. What is real, and what is simulation? This is the hallmark of the baroque, when dreams fold into dreams, like immersion in a seemingly endless matrix of digital appearances. When fact-based justice recedes, laws proliferate within a field of uncertainty. Left unchecked, this condition of ontological and ethical uneasiness threatens the legitimacy of law’s claim to power. Visualizing Law in the Age of the Digital Baroque offers a jurisprudential paradigm that is equal to the challenge that current cultural conditions present.
