Book The Marian Vow of Unlimited Consecration to the Immaculate

Download or read book The Marian Vow of Unlimited Consecration to the Immaculate written by Fr. Stefano Maria Manelli, FI and published by Academy of the Immaculate. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book that gives a profound explanation of how one can relate with the Immaculate by means of "the Marian Vow" of total consecration to the Immaculate that is transformative and life-changing. This book is a treatise on total consecration to the Immaculate, conceived initially by St. Maximilian M. Kolbe and has developed into the distinctive charism of the Franciscans of the Immaculate. Such charism finds its consummation in the profession of this Marian consecration in the form of a religious vow, known as, "The Marian Vow." Finding its original inspiration in St. Maximilian Kolbe who envisioned of a "fourth vow" of consecration that puts no limit to the missionary work of the religious, Fr. Stefano Manelli, the founder of the Franciscans of the Immaculate continued with the same inspiration and develop it to include both Marian and missionary character. This book is the theological and ascetical explanation of this Marian Vow. The book is not, by all means, exclusive to the Franciscans of the Immaculate. One can find universal insights based on solid spiritual theology of how one can relate in a more personal way with the Immaculate who ceases to be just a mere figure of veneration; she becomes alive and present to one's soul in a unique way that is transformative and life-changing. This book is utterly unique and inspired. As the Founder and Father General of the entire family of the Franciscans of the Immaculate (Friars, Sisters, Poor Clares, Tertiaries, and M.I.M.), Fr. Stefano has distilled, and put into writing for his children, the illumination he has received about the Marian Vow over the past decades. This work is the fruit of his life of prayer, study, and missionary activity. It is the fruit of his profound union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Book Mary the Transparency of God

Download or read book Mary the Transparency of God written by Chiara Lubich and published by New City Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is it that Christians of many different Churches find so attractive about the young Jewish girl who gave birth to Jesus? This book does more than hint at an answer. Chiara Lubichs gospelbased intuitions are a source of new insights for Christians of all traditions. Not only do we see the beauty of a human being who gave birth to God made flesh, not only do we taste the essential poetry of this unique event in history and enter more fully into all it implies, but we are made able to translate this vision into our daily lives. Mary becomes less a person we admire, an object of veneration, and more a source of inspiration, an example on which we can model our lives. It seems to me that the present times call for a reintroduction of Mary, Chiara Lubich says. To do this, we hope here to promote a new vision of Mary, one that is largely unknown, based on what God chose to show us about her. It is my hope that these pages of Chiara, so rich in witness to Mary and in meditations about her, may nourish us and help very many people to say like Mary and with her their own Here I am, their own yes to the plan and path that God has prepared for the life of each person. The multitude of people who have walked with Chiara along this path can testify that it leads also by way of the experience of the cross to happiness. From the Foreword by Joseph Cardinal Schnborn Archbishop of Vienna

Book Investigating Gender Translation and Culture in Italian Studies

Download or read book Investigating Gender Translation and Culture in Italian Studies written by Monica Boria and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2007 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past few years have witnessed a growing academic interest in Italian Studies and an increasing number of symposia and scholarly activities. This volume originates from the Society for Italian Studies Postgraduate Colloquia that took place at the University of Leicester and Cambridge in June 2004 and April 2005 respectively. It gathers together articles by young researchers working on various aspects of Italian Studies. It well illustrates current trends in both typical areas of research, like literature and 'high culture', and in those which have gained momentum in recent years, like translation and language studies. The volume offers a taste of the dynamic outlook of current research in Italian Studies: the interdisciplinary approach of the essays in translation and gender studies, and the innovative methodological perspectives and findings offered by the new fields of Italian L2 and ethnography. The book is divided into three sections, each grouping contributions by broad subject areas: literature and culture, translation and gender studies, language and linguistics. Cross-fertilizations and interdisciplinary research emerge from several essays and the coherent ensemble constitutes an example of the far-reaching results achieved by current research.

Download or read book Introducation to Mariology written by Manfred Hauke and published by Catholic University of America Press. This book was released on 2020-09-11 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Introduction to Mariology, Fr. Manfred Hauke provides a synthesis of Mariology and the biblical fundaments and development of Marian doctrine. While it works as a comprehensive introduction suitable for courses on the subject, it is in reality a panoramic view on the entire Marian doctrine, and as such will be essential for the theological formation of seminarians, priests, theologians, and all kinds of educated Catholics. With an unparalleled bibliographic citation of Marian literature across a dozen languages, it is also a perfect gateway to further research on the subject. It begins with Biblical doctrine, which is important especially for the dialogue with Protestant denominations: Catholic Mariology can be traced in its “embryonic” state already in Holy Scripture. From there Hauke presents a historical overview of the whole development of Marian doctrine, before developing further historical details in the subsequent chapters dedicated to systematic issues. The first systematic step approaches the figure of Mary through her role in the mystery of the Covenant between God and redeemed humanity; her being “Mother of God” and companion of the Redeemer is the “fundamental principle.” Then the four established Marian dogmas are presented: divine maternity, virginity, Immaculate Conception (in a chapter on Mary’s holiness more broadly), and bodily Assumption. A close look is given to maternal mediation which includes a part dedicated to the “Mater Unitatis”. A stand alone chapter is dedicated to Marian apparitions; authentic apparitions are presented as a part of prophetic charisma. The last chapter presents the basics on Marian devotion which culminates in the consecration to Mary (as a response to her maternal mediation). Already available in Spanish, Italian, Portugese, and Korean, this landmark work is published here for the first time in English.

Book A New Way

    Book Details:
  • Author : Chiara Lubich
  • Publisher : New City Press
  • Release : 2006
  • ISBN : 1565482360
  • Pages : 183 pages

Download or read book A New Way written by Chiara Lubich and published by New City Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of spirituality has never seen a way to God like this one. Till now all forms of spiritual growth have focused on the individual’s discovery of the Beauty of Beauties, the God who fascinates the human heart. And they have striven to find ways in which individuals can be transformed, ways in which they can enter into the ultimate experience. In essence none of this disappears. But the spirituality that Chiara Lubich and her companions have discovered is a “new way” in which people go to God not primarily as individuals, but together. It is a “spirituality of communion,” as described by John Paul II. No longer is the spiritual life about withdrawing from other people, nor just about serving them. It is about living with them in unity, growing together in God. “What do I wish for this book? That it may become nourishment for the lives of many and that it may contribute to making the Church beautiful, so that for the salvation of the world and for the glory of God the Church may live among men and women, as a sign of and a pointer towards happiness.” Cardinal Miloslav Vlk Archbishop of Prague

Book Studia Patristica

Download or read book Studia Patristica written by Elizabeth A. Livingstone and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 1997 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papers presented at the Twelfth International Conference on Patristic Studies held in Oxford 1995 (see also Studia Patristica 29, 30, 31 and 32). The Twelfth International Conference on Patristic Studies met in Oxford from 21 to 26 August 1995. These gatherings have assembled at four-yearly intervals since 1951. At each the number of papers presented has been greater than the previous occasion, and the size of the assembly is now limited only by the capacity of the buildings available. Some 650 scholars attended the 1995 Conference, including delegates from Russia, Georgia, India, Japan, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia, as well as from North America and most countries in Europe. Papers were given in English, French, German, Italian or Spanish, and are normally printed in the language in which they were delivered. Some were fully developed lectures lasting for nearly an hour; the majority were communications of 12 minutes' duration: and a few came in between. These volumes contain 284 of the papers, including most of the lectures given in full session, viz. the Inaugural Address by Dr. H.D. Saffrey on 'Theology as a Science'; Prof. Dr. Suso Frank, 'John Cassian on John Cassian'; Prof. Dr. O. Skarsaune; 'Is Christianity Monotheistic ? Patristic Perspectives on a Jewish-Christian Debate'; and Prof. A. Louth, 'St. Maximus the Confessor: Between East and West'. Others report the finding of unpublished texts, deal with particular points, or present broad interpretations, sometimes original in character. For the first time a number of illustrations are included, reflecting the growing interest in iconography.

Book The Reception of Charles Dickens in Europe

Download or read book The Reception of Charles Dickens in Europe written by Michael Hollington and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-08-29 with total page 748 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reception of Charles Dickens in Europe offers a full historical survey of Dickens's reception in all the major European countries and many of the smaller ones, filling a major gap in Dickens scholarship, which has by and large neglected Dickens's fortunes in Europe, and his impact on major European authors and movements. Essays by leading international critics and translators give full attention to cultural changes and fashions, such as the decline of Dickens's fortunes at the end of the nineteenth century in the period of Naturalism and Aestheticism, and the subsequent upswing in the period of Modernism, in part as a consequence of the rise of film in the era of Chaplin and Eisenstein. It will also offer accounts of Dickens's reception in periods of political upheaval and revolution such as during the communist era in Eastern Europe or under fascism in Germany and Italy in particular.

Book Watching Sympathetic Perpetrators on Italian Television

Download or read book Watching Sympathetic Perpetrators on Italian Television written by Dana Renga and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers the first comprehensive study of recent, popular Italian television. Building on work in American television studies, audience and reception theory, and masculinity studies, Sympathetic Perpetrators and their Audiences on Italian Television examines how and why viewers are positioned to engage emotionally with—and root for—Italian television antiheroes. Italy’s most popular exported series feature alluring and attractive criminal antiheroes, offer fictionalized accounts of historical events or figures, and highlight the routine violence of daily life in the mafia, the police force, and the political sphere. Renga argues that Italian broadcasters have made an international name for themselves by presenting dark and violent subjects in formats that are visually pleasurable and, for many across the globe, highly addictive. Taken as a whole, this book investigates what recent Italian perpetrator television can teach us about television audiences, and our viewing habits and preferences.

Book Investigating Italy s Past through Historical Crime Fiction Films and TV Series

Download or read book Investigating Italy s Past through Historical Crime Fiction Films and TV Series written by Barbara Pezzotti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-11 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first monograph in English that comprehensively examines the ways in which Italian historical crime novels, TV series, and films have become a means to intervene in the social and political changes of the country. This study explores the ways in which fictional representations of the past mirror contemporaneous anxieties within Italian society in the work of writers such as Leonardo Sciascia, Andrea Camilleri, Carlo Lucarelli, Francesco Guccini, Loriano Macchiavelli, Marcello Fois, Maurizio De Giovanni, and Giancarlo De Cataldo; film directors such as Elio Petri, Pietro Germi, Michele Placido, and Damiano Damiani; and TV series such as the “Commissario De Luca” series, the “Commissario Nardone” series, and “Romanzo criminale–The series.” Providing the most wide-ranging examination of this sub-genre in Italy, Barbara Pezzotti places works set in the Risorgimento, WWII, and the Years of Lead in the larger social and political context of contemporary Italy.

Book Almost Eternal Painting on Stone and Material Innovation in Early Modern Europe

Download or read book Almost Eternal Painting on Stone and Material Innovation in Early Modern Europe written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost Eternal: Painting on Stone and Material Innovation in Early Modern Europe gathers together an international group of ten scholars, who offer a novel account of the phenomenon of oil painting on stone surfaces in Northern and Southern Europe. This technique was devised in Rome by Sebastiano del Piombo in the early sixteenth century and was practiced until the late seventeenth century. This phenomenon has attracted little attention previously: the volume therefore makes a significant and timely contribution to the field in the light of recent studies of materiality and the rise of technical Art History. Contributors: Nadia Baadj, Piers Baker-Bates, Elena Calvillo, Ana Gonsalez Mozo, Anna Kim, Helen Langdon, Johanna Beate Lohff, Judith Mann, Christopher Nygren, Suzanne Wegmann, and Giulia Martina Weston.
