Book excerpt: El informe Igualdad en cifras MEFP pone de manifiesto que el 66,5% de todo el profesorado es mujer, un porcentaje que aumenta al 71,9% en las enseñanzas no universitarias y cae hasta el 41,3% en la educación universitaria. La mayor parte de los docentes en España son mujeres. Su presencia varía desde el 96,7% en educación infantil hasta el 41,3% en las universidades. Según el informe en la última década la presencia femenina en puestos de dirección de centros no universitarios ha aumentado 15 puntos porcentuales hasta alcanzar el 65%. Si analizamos los datos de las enseñanzas no universitarias, en términos generales, el 65% de los puestos de dirección los ocupan mujeres, así como el 65,9% de las secretarías y el 64,8% de las jefaturas de estudio, aproximándose al peso que tienen las mujeres en estos centros. La brecha de género en las disciplinas científico-tecnológicas se observa en el alumnado, tanto en las enseñanzas de FP, como en las carreras universitarias. Algunos ejemplos son el 8% de chicas que cursa Informática en FP de grado medio, el 4,9% matriculado en Electricidad y Electrónica en FP superior, el 12,2% matriculado en el grado de Informática o el 28,4% de los grados de Ingeniería, industria y construcción (estos dos últimos datos corresponden al curso 2017-2018). Respecto a los resultados académicos, como norma general, las chicas tienen más éxito que los chicos a la hora de superar cursos de secundaria y bachillerato y también módulos de FP, y obtienen también los mayores porcentajes de egresados tanto en estudios de grado como de master. Si se considera el conjunto de la educación superior universitaria y no universitaria, el 51,9% de las mujeres de 25 a 29 años ha finalizado estudios superiores, 11 puntos porcentuales por encima de los varones de ese mismo grupo de edad (40,9%). Asimismo, las tasas de abandono escolar temprano son más bajas entre ellas (14% frente al 21,7% de los chicos en 2018). Esta feminización de los estudios contrasta, sin embargo, con la masculinización del mercado laboral, donde las mujeres tienen peores tasas de empleabilidad en todos los niveles de formación entre los 25 y los 64 años, según datos de 2018. Las tasas de paro, cuando se restringen al grupo de mujeres entre 25 y 34 años, no solo no mejoran sino que aumentan más de tres puntos porcentuales en total y hasta 10 para aquellas que no han alcanzado la primera etapa de la educación secundaria.

Book excerpt: Gender inequalities in education – in terms of systematic variations in access to educational institutions, in competencies, school marks, and educational certificates along the axis of gender – have tremendously changed over the course of the 20th century. Before the major boost of educational expansion in the 1960s, women’s participation in upper secondary general education, and their chances to successfully finish this educational pathway, have been lower than men’s.
