Book ICPC 3 International Classification of Primary Care

Download or read book ICPC 3 International Classification of Primary Care written by Kees van Boven and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-12-27 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third edition of the International Classification of Primary Care (ICPC-3) is indispensible for anyone wishing to use the international classification system for classification of morbidity data in a primary care setting. Distilling the many standards that are applied internationally in primary & community care and public health to offer a telescopic view, the classification has been completely rewritten to reflect the continued shift in the health paradigm of primary care and public health towards the person rather than the disease or provider. The content of ICPC-3 remains closely ‘linked’ to relevant related international classifications. The ICPC-3 also contributes to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, specifically to Goal 3 and its target of ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.

Book excerpt: This fully revised and corrected edition of the International Classification of Primary Care 2e (ICPC-2) is indispensable for anyone wishing to use the international classification system for classificaton of morbidity data in a primary care setting. The concept of ICPC-2 has not been changed but the main body of the actual classification (chapter 10) has been completely revised to reflect the adequate use for an individual patient record and for research purposes. This now brings the printed version of ICPC-2 completely in-line with the electronic version previously only available through the Oxford Website for the journal Family Practice. ICPC-2 is patient-oriented rather than disease or provider-oriented. It encompasses both the patient's reason for encounter and the patient's problem. ICPC-2 is extensively used internationally and includes a detailed conversion system for linking the ICPC and ICD-10 codes published by WHO, additional inclusion criteria, and cross-referencing rubrics. ICPC-2 It has been developed based on the recognition that building the appropriate primary care systems to allow the assessment and implementation of health care priorities is possible only if the right information is available to health care planners.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Second Edition of Family Medicine: Principles and Practice presents a scien tific approach to health and illness in the context of mankind's most enduring societal unit-the family. This is a new book, building on the strengths of the First Edition. The emphasis of this book, like that of the specialty itself, is on the clinical delivery of health care; that is, how the practitioner manages common problems and recognizes uncommon entities encountered in office, hospital, home, and nursing home. In the First Edition, we were faced with the problem of how to organize a family medicine textbook that dealt with clinical topics yet represented more than a series of essays on the specialties for the generalist reader. We began by identifying specific objectives, outlined in the preface to the First Edition. From this evolved an approach which has been called the biopsycho social perspective-inclusion of behavioral, family, social, and cultural aspects of health care integrated with the traditional "manifestations-and-manage ment" textbook model. The First Edition also introduced a comprehensive classification of clinical problems in family medicine now used in curriculum planning in many family practice residency programs.

Download or read book Urban Family Medicine written by Richard B. Birrer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now, more than ever, Family Medicine is alive and well in the United States. The base of this medical specialty has traditionally been in the smaller cities, suburban communities, and rural areas of this country. Over the past decade, however, there has been a resurgence of interest in primary care in our major metropolitan areas as a solution to the high tech subspecialty pace of the tertiary care environment. A rebirth of urban family medicine has accompanied these pioneering efforts. To date, the accomplishments are substantial and the prospects are bright. There is still a long way to go and there are a significant number of hurdles to cross. Although diseases are generally the same wherever you are, their effects as illness on the individual and the family are strongly influenced by the environment and social milieu. Urban families have distinctive and diverse problems-cultural, economic, and ethnic. Training pro grams situated in the large cities must recognize these issues and include special emphasis on the situations that the family physician is likely to encounter during and after his training. There is very little research literature on the background and nature of special urban problems and these areas are the subject of several chapters of this long overdue volume devoted specifically to urban family medicine. Dr. Birrer has persuaded true experts to share their knowledge with the reader.

Book Research in General Practice

Download or read book Research in General Practice written by J. G. R. Howie and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the paradoxes of general practice is that we emphasize on the one hand how important it is that the general practitioner learns to tolerate uncertainty, and then regret on the other hand that so few general practitioners research the uncertainties they find in their every day work. In the first chapter of my first edition of this book I suggested that general practitioners were missing opportunities to take part in a fascinating and rewarding professional activity because of an unnecessary fear of the unknown, and tried to encourage more to try research for themselves. There has been an impressive increase in what has been asked about, researched and written about in the last decade and this second edition tries to bring up to date the advice I think may help others to become involved in research for themselves. The basic principles of good research are of course timeless and apply to enquiry in any discipline. However, detail changes; there are new aids to reviewing literature, the increased emphasis in social science research has been matched by a range of new methods of collecting information, computers have revolutionized how data is handled and statistics is an ever-developing science in its own right. The chapters in this book which describe what can be referred to as the technology of the research process have been revised to reflect the impact of these recent developments rather than re-written.
