But he knew a piece of him was missing—a relationship with his biological parents. Adopted as an infant, Chauncey was raised with the importance of Family and Faith. But it wasn’t until adulthood, when Chauncey set out on a quest to locate his biological mother and father, that he truly understood this. At times joyous, at times heartbreaking, Chauncey’s journey included his adoptive parents and siblings, friends, and biological family members who didn’t even know who he was. His determination to make peace with his past culminated in an experience readers won’t be likely to forget. Written for those raised by their biological parents as well as adoptees, So That’s Who I Am sheds light on what it’s like to be adopted and provides a relatable yet unique story sure to resonate with other adoptees. Regardless of their backgrounds, however, readers will learn that adoptees didn’t have a choice: our first inheritance was abandonment. We are simply different—neither better nor worse—and we can find healing in this journey.

Download or read book iBroadway written by Jessica Hillman-McCord and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that the digital revolution has fundamentally altered the way musicals are produced, followed, admired, marketed, reviewed, researched, taught, and even cast. In the first hundred years of its existence, commercial musical theatre functioned on one basic model. However, with the advent of digital and network technologies, every musical theatre artist and professional has had to adjust to swift and unanticipated change. Due to the historically commercial nature of the musical theatre form, it offers a more potent test case to reveal the implications of this digital shift than other theatrical art forms. Rather than merely reflecting technological change, musical theatre scholarship and practice is at the forefront of the conversation about art in the digital age. This book is essential reading for musical theatre fans and scholars alike.
Download or read book The Interpersonal Tradition written by Irwin Hirsch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-19 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Interpersonal Tradition: The Origins of Psychoanalytic Subjectivity, Irwin Hirsch offers an overview of psychoanalytic history and in particular the evolution of Interpersonal thinking, which has become central to much contemporary psychoanalytic theory and practice. This book of Hirsch’s selected papers provides an overview of his work on the topic over a thirty year period (1984-2014), with a new introductory chapter and a brief updating prologue to each subsequent chapter. Hirsch offers an original perspective on clinical psychoanalytic process, comparative psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic theory, particularly explicating the many ways in which Interpersonal thinking is absolutely central to contemporary theory and practice. Each chapter is filled with theoretical explication and clinical examples that illustrate the degree to which the idiosyncratic person of each psychoanalyst inevitably plays a significant role in both analytic praxis and analytic theorizing. Key to this perspective is the recognition that each unique individual analyst is an inherently subjective co-participant in all aspects of analytic process, underscoring the importance that analysts maintain an acute sensitivity to the participation of both parties in the transference-countertransference matrix. Overall, the book argues that the Interpersonal psychoanalytic tradition, more than any other, is responsible for the post-modern and Relational turn in contemporary psychoanalysis. Based on a range of seminal papers that outline how the Interpersonal psychoanalytic tradition is integral to understanding much of contemporary psychoanalytic thought, this book will be essential reading for practitioners and students of psychoanalysis.

Download or read book How to Become Strong Enough to Love written by Margaret Paul and published by Gildan Media LLC aka G&D Media. This book was released on 2022-04-26 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inner Bonding is a proven six-step self-healing process that has been developed and optimized over 30 years by Dr. Margaret Paul, Ph.D. and Dr. Erika Chopich, Ph.D. It’s comprehensive. It’s practical. And it always works when you do it. In this book, Margaret, through the powerful Six-Step Inner Bonding pathway, shows how you can create and maintain the inner safety you need so you can become strong enough to love. Inner Bonding empowers you to self-heal the root causes of anxiety, depression, addictions, failed relationships and many other problems that inhibit your personal and spiritual growth and satisfaction. It teaches you how to love yourself rather than continue to abandon yourself, how to move beyond emotional dependency and attain emotional freedom, and how to heal any underlying control issues. In friendships, marriages, and work relationships, your joy, aliveness, and creativity get lost as you give up parts of yourself in an attempt to feel safe. In romantic relationships, passion dries up. Superficiality, boredom, fighting, and apathy take its place. You try valiantly to figure out what went wrong. But too often you might ask, “What am I doing wrong?” or “What are you doing wrong?” rather than inquiring into the underlying fears and resulting self-abandoning behaviors that create the unsafe relationship space. The key to doing this is learning how to create a safe inner space where you can work with and overcome your false beliefs and your fears of rejection and engulfment. This is a process, not an event.

Download or read book I Am Brian Wilson written by Brian Wilson and published by Da Capo Press. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They say there are no second acts in American lives, and third acts are almost unheard of. That's part of what makes Brian Wilson's story so astonishing. As a cofounding member of the Beach Boys in the 1960s, Wilson created some of the most groundbreaking and timeless popular music ever recorded. With intricate harmonies, symphonic structures, and wide-eyed lyrics that explored life's most transcendent joys and deepest sorrows, songs like "In My Room," "God Only Knows," and "Good Vibrations" forever expanded the possibilities of pop songwriting. Derailed in the 1970s by mental illness, drug use, and the shifting fortunes of the band, Wilson came back again and again over the next few decades, surviving and-finally-thriving. Now, for the first time, he weighs in on the sources of his creative inspiration and on his struggles, the exhilarating highs and the debilitating lows. I Am Brian Wilson reveals as never before the man who fought his way back to stability and creative relevance, who became a mesmerizing live artist, who forced himself to reckon with his own complex legacy, and who finally completed Smile, the legendary unfinished Beach Boys record that had become synonymous with both his genius and its destabilization. Today Brian Wilson is older, calmer, and filled with perspective and forgiveness. Whether he's talking about his childhood, his bandmates, or his own inner demons, Wilson's story, told in his own voice and in his own way, unforgettably illuminates the man behind the music, working through the turbulence and discord to achieve, at last, a new harmony.
