Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parents! Have you ever wondered what went wrong with your child or blamed yourself for your children's difficulties? Have you battled with the "should haves" and the "should have nots"? The book Labor Pain is a thought-provoking analytical search for answers to the parent-child relationship. It's the author's inner conflicts and questions raising her children in a different cultural environment than the one she was raised in, as a single parent, a product of divorce, a Christian, and in a time of big cultural change. Her book explores the roles and conflicts between culture, religion, personality, and socioeconomic factors in the parent-child dyad and parenting. The highs and lows of parenting and the many twists, turns, and rest stops on her spiritual journey as a parent. Her book explores the real human struggles in stories, proverbs, poems, and other narratives. Using Psalm 127:3-5 that declares that children are a gift and a reward from God as its framework, the challenging questions become the following: Why is parenting hard? Who or what is to blame for parent-child relationship difficulties? What constitutes a healthy relationship? What is good or bad parenting? Chioma A. A. Menakaya invites the readers to journey along with her, and as they do, make their own discoveries or gain insight to help them deal with or appreciate their own journey as parents. The author hopes that children reading this book will gain an understanding from the parents' perspective. The book also provides useful tools for child welfare workers, psychologists, family advocates, and counselors dealing with migrant families and understanding the role of culture and religion in parenting. Journey along. About the Author Chioma is a mother of three who resides in Howard County, Maryland. She had a broad and extensive career in banking and financial services before moving into the public sector. Chioma is a member of Women's Business Enterprise. She owns several small businesses including a non-profit organization, Care Connect International Inc., whose mission is to help the less privileged in the community they serve ease some of their economic burdens. She understands that ignorance is crippling, thus, she never ceases in her pursuit for knowledge. Adroit in researching, analyzing, and understanding the legal, ethical, political, religious, and socioeconomic environments, she uses her book series "Just from my Heart" the tales of her personal journey, in an interdisciplinary approach to seek answers to the hard questions that tug at her heart. As life happens and as the human mind is a constant battlefield, her writings delve into the core of human relationships and life dilemmas to help bring perspective to the "Why?" of how things are. As a Christian, Chioma seeks solace and serenity in God through the turbulent waters of her life and when things do not just make sense. In Christ alone, her present help in surmounting the many curve balls life has thrown at her. Chioma wins because God always wins.

Book excerpt: One of the last outposts of the American West, the Montana Territory is filled with promise and adventure for those with brave souls—and open hearts . . . Leader of the Timberbeasts, logger Simon Sanders’ biggest problem a year ago was deciding which willing woman to seduce. But since being mauled by a cougar he’s become a pariah in Missoula’s social circuit—and to himself. All he wants is to hide his scarred face and disappear into the bottom of a whiskey bottle. His plan is going well—until his sister’s best friend, Carrie Kerr, kidnaps him and forces him to deal with his demons. If he didn’t know better, Simon would swear the bossy beauty is a demon herself . . . Carrie doesn’t like to use the word kidnap. Unknowingly transport, perhaps. In any case, she can no longer watch Simon destroy himself in self-pity. Not since she lost her heart to him as she nursed him back to health. Now, whatever happens between them, she’s determined to bring him back to the one place he swore he’d never return to, the place she’s sure will reignite his spirit. But if things go awry, will she will she lose all hope for him to win back his life—much less share it with her? . . . “Well written, well researched. Like the river, this plot runs faster and faster. Readers won’t be able to put it down.” —New York Times bestselling author Jodi Thomas on White Water Passion

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will disrupt how you think about creating your best work life and workplace and give you a no-B.S. road map to get you there. What you’ve been taught about how to find health and happiness at work is inaccurate. Yep, it’s wrong. If you are fed up with the overwhelming and conflicting noise around how to create a fulfilling professional life or be a leader people actually want to work for, this book will help you cut through the clutter once and for all. Through years of research and truth-finding, Kelly Mackin and her company, Motives Met, have discovered a completely new mindset and approach around what well-being at work is all about, how to get there, and why it’s so important that we do get there. This book is a transformative personal guide; but it’s also a call to action for a fundamental shift in our approach to work—a manifesto for a human-centered work world. The heart of humanizing work is honoring that we are human beings at work with human needs, and these needs—what Mackin refers to as motives—should be healthy and, ideally, thriving. Ill-being still drastically overshadows well-being at work, but using Mackin’s proven framework and 5-step pathway we can change that. You will become empowered to: • Elevate happiness, mental health, and well-being for yourself, the people you work with, and those you lead. • Learn to be mindful of, evaluate, and communicate motives, to ultimately meet them. • Create a people-first culture where employees thrive and business thrives; • Overcome well-being obstacles by eliminating the “dream killers” that threaten a human way of working. • Ditch surface-level connection and friction for more meaningful work relationships with psychological safety and trust. And so much more! *EXCLUSIVE HUMAN NEEDS ASSESSMENT CODE* Are your motives met? With your book purchase, you will receive your code to take the Motives Met Human Needs Assessment to uncover your top 5 motives, the psychological, emotional, and social human needs driving your ability to thrive at work today. The assessment reveals the unique truth of well-being for yourself, your team, and organization. This book is a breath of fresh air that isn’t about chasing perfection or some unrealistic ideal; it’s about embracing what is genuinely possible. It’s about the attainable dream of a work life well-lived for all.

Book Burny s Journeys

Download or read book Burny s Journeys written by Brian Finkle and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's one man's story from childhood to his mid-fifties and counting. He never went looking for adventures or answers to life but because of timing, coincidences, synchronicities, (call it what you will) that started early and have never ended, he has been blessed with a lifetime of stories and then some. He spent his first twenty years in small town Iowa before the U.S. Army decided that they had a need for him. It was February of 1968 and it proved to be a bad time to be entering the military. After a year in Vietnam he came home intact but a changed young man. He packed up a van and headed west with everything he owned. (Except for the baseball cards that his parents had already thrown away. Damn!) After joining Vietnam Veterans Against the War (John Kerry was their president) he went to D.C. and threw his medals away on the Capitol steps with a thousand or so other vets who realized that as a country, we could make mistakes and this time we had. He was thrown in jail in Denver with 78 other vets for simply trying to march, as an organization, in the Veteran's Day Parade. It was a tough time for people to stand up to their government but he felt it was important and so did many people. Those actions changed the direction of our country. "Maybe something like this" the author suggests, "is needed again today". After some bad relationships, he hit the road for 2 1/2 years without an address to call his own. He spent two fairy tale winters in Mexico and Guatemala where he explored caves, found untouched ceynotes, met many characters as well as great friends, and all the while, he compiled stories. It was then that he began journaling and has never stopped nearly 30 years later and neither have the stories. He had the most vivid dream of his life, which magically, eventually led him to his lovely bride. They have now shared the past quarter of a century together including kids, and grandkids. It's all there along with the lessons and confessions.
