I Love You More Than Tuna is both a lighthearted celebration of the loving bond between human and cat, and a touching meditation on the eternal nature of that love.” —Jackson Galaxy, host of Animal Planet’s My Cat From Hell An illustrated gift book for adults grieving a companion cat, celebrating the often-quirky bond between humans and felines. Our cats occupy a unique space in our hearts. When they’re gone, the loss can be devastating, the grief profound. P.S. Download or read book I Love You More Than You Know written by Jonathan Ames and published by Open Road + Grove/Atlantic. This book was released on 2007-12-01 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Utterly delightful” essays from the creator of the HBO’s Bored to Death reveal intimate details of his life as a famously neurotic New York writer (Brendan Halpin, Los Angeles Times). Jonathan Ames has drawn comparisons across the literary spectrum, from David Sedaris to F. Scott Fitzgerald to P.G. Wodehouse, and his books, as well as his abilities as a performer, have made him a favorite on the Late Show with David Letterman. Whether he’s chasing deranged cockroaches around his apartment, kissing a beautiful actress on the set of an avant-garde film, finding himself stuck perilously on top of a fence in the middle of the night in Memphis, or provoking fights with huge German men, Jonathan Ames has an uncanny knack for getting himself into outlandish situations. In I Love You More Than You Know, Ames once again turns his own adventures, neuroses, joys, heartaches, and insights into profound and hilarious tales. Alive with love and tenderness for his son, his parents, his great-aunt—and even strangers in bars—Ames looks beneath the surface of our world to find the beauty in the perverse, the sweetness in loneliness, and the humor in pain in essays that are “both poignant and silly—an irresistible mix” (John Dicker, Philadelphia Weekly).

My inspiration and muse for my poetry was and still is my one and only true love, Alina V. She is an only child and was living in Sevastopol, part of the Russian Federation. Alina has taught me the true meaning of love and what it felt like to be in love. There is love in everyone no matter what age a person is. Alina has become my teacher of life's loves and happiness. Without the love I have for this woman and her love for life, this poetry would have never been written. She has made me realize that there is love and life within everyone's heart, and I have learned from her. My love for Alina will never end as long as I have air in my lungs and blood in my veins. I love you with all my heart. Thank you Honey for without you, there would be no book.

Helen (aka Hedy) reveals her tremendous strength, courage and truth as she is able to stand in her power during times that would normally break someone in half. While in the U.S. Air Force, her verbally abusive husband admits to having had affairs with other women. In the fifteenth year of her marriage, completely taken by fate, she meets her soul mate, Bill Vann; a married man with a beautiful spirit. They experience love at first sight, have an affair but with gut-wrenching heartbreak, stay in their marriages; never knowing if they will ever see each other again. Twenty-nine years later, she receives a letter from the daughter she so painfully gave up for adoption. It is her daughter who brings her biological parents together for a timeless and passionate reunion that encompasses a lifetime. As the anchor to the family she refers to as "The Circle of Love", she is left with exposing her true love story to her three full-grown children. The airport reunions leave crowds of spectators watching in celebration as Hedy leaps into Bill's arms and wraps her legs around his waist! Today, both in their mid-seventies they are married and just as in love as they were when they first met!

Book Butterfly in Amber and Other Fragments of a Life

Download or read book Butterfly in Amber and Other Fragments of a Life written by Janet Jacobs and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 1999-12-14 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A busy and successful travel consultant, Julie Ellisons life evolved from the most harrowing of beginnings; she married at seventeen to escape her mothers fierce Hollywood ambitions for her, only to be deserted by her husband a few months later leaving her pregnant and facing the birth of their child alone. She entered a second marriage hoping desperately to find a sustaining love for herself and her child, only to have that fail too. Now, grateful that her daughter has weathered her own difficult passage to adulthood, Julie falls in love with Paul Bassett, a young international investment banker who is about to move to London. This poignant journal-like account begins in New York and takes the reader on a roller coaster of countries and emotions that span a mere year. Their meetings are ecstatic, fleeting and bittersweet, for Paul is married and the father of two young children. Because of her own past Julie painfully identifies with his family and empathizes about the loss they will suffer if they lose him. Paul determines to leave his marriage once he stabilizes his financial life, and as the months pass he is able to achieve his goal. His wife agrees to a divorce and he departs for New York to join Julie and celebrate their future. The profound relief she finally feels intensifies Julies enormous exhilaration. But the news of a terrible plane crash in Paris gives her a sense of foreboding that turns out to be uncannily accurate; in a last minute change of plans Paul boarded the ill-fated plane. There are no survivors. In a series of brief scenes that distill Julies grief, Butterfly in Amber piercingly conveys how she manages to absorb his loss, decide to embrace life again, and commemorate their love in an act that affirms it forever. Gordon McKenzie of the London newspaper, The Mail on Sunday describes Butterfly in Amber as a modern day "Brief Encounter". Two short stories, "The Eves of Christmas "and "The Excursion" offer variations on these themes. These stories are based on the experiences, dreams, failures, disappointments and hopes of Ms. Jacobs. They combine to create "Butterfly in Amber and Other Fragments of a Life", an affecting collection about the nature of loss and the miracle of human capacity for recovery and renewal. Book Lamson of the Gettysburg

    Book Details:
  • Author : James M. McPherson
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 1997-11-13
  • ISBN : 0199727929
  • Pages : 267 pages

Download or read book Lamson of the Gettysburg written by James M. McPherson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1997-11-13 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roswell Lamson was one of the boldest and most skillful young officers in the Union navy. Second in the class of 1862 at Annapolis (he took his final exam while at sea during the war), he commanded more ships and flotillas than any other officer of his age or rank in the service, climaxed by his captaincy of the navy's fastest ship in 1864, USS Gettysburg. Now, in Lamson of the Gettysburg, we have the war-time letters of this striking naval figure. What's more, these are letters of exceptional quality. James M. McPherson, co-editor of the collection with his wife Patricia and one of America's preeminent Civil War historians, writes that "few sets of letters equal and none surpass those of Lamson for richness of description, scope of coverage, or keenness of perception and analysis." Indeed, the McPhersons term Lamson's correspondence "the best Civil War navy letters we have ever read or expect to read." Throughout the war, Lamson always seemed to be where the action was on the South Atlantic coast, and these letters describe with striking immediacy the part he played in these events. While serving on the USS Wabash, for instance, he directed the big deck guns that did the most damage to enemy forts at Hatteras Inlet and Port Royal, two major naval victories. He was the officer who took command of the CSS Planter in May 1862, when slaves led by Robert Smalls ran her past Confederate fortifications in Charleston harbor and delivered her to the Union fleet. He commanded a gunboat fleet on the Nansemond River that helped stop James Longstreet's advance on Norfolk. In a daring attempt to blow up Fort Fisher, the huge earthwork fortress that guarded the entrance into the Cape Fear river, he towed the USS Louisiana (packed with more than two hundred tons of gunpowder) directly under the guns of the fort, sneaking into the shallows behind a rebel blockade runner, (Lamson describes "a terrific explosion. An immense column of flame rose towards the sky, and four distinct reports like that of sharp heavy thunder were heard and a dense mass of smoke enveloped everything"). And a few weeks later, he led a contingent of seventy men from the Gettysburg as part of the January 15, 1865 assault on the sea-face parapets of Fort Fisher, where he himself was wounded and his close friend, Samuel W. Preston, died. The letters also capture the spirited personality of Lamson himself, resolved to "stand by the Union as long as there is a plank afloat," but also deeply ambivalent about the war. In a moving passage early in the collection, he describes leaving Annapolis for war duty on the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides): "We gave three cheers for Capt R., three for the troops, and for old friendship's sake three for those of our number who intending to resign [to join the Confederacy] were requested not to go on board. Some of my best friends were among them. This will be a sad sad war. It will be more painful to strike than to be struck." The publication of the letters of Roswell Lamson marks a major addition to Civil War literature. Featuring superb introductions to each section as well as informative notes that explain references in the correspondence to people, ships, land and sea battles, or homefront news, Lamson of The Gettysburg now joins the first rank of Civil War sources. One of the few accounts we have from the perspective of a navy officer, it is a book that everyone interested in the Civil War or in American naval history will want to read.
