Book How to Prepare Students for the Information Age and Global Marketplace

Download or read book How to Prepare Students for the Information Age and Global Marketplace written by Lyn Lesch and published by R & L Education. This book was released on 2008 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to Prepare Students for the Information Age and Global Marketplace examines how the structure of schools might be changed so that students in their formative years are able to learn in a manner that allows them to be more creative. The modern world is shrinking as technology and connectivity create new ways to live, communicate, and do business. Education and learning must follow suit. In this regard, the book focuses on such key issues as the process of actually learning how to learn; the sort of changing relationship between teacher and student which needs to occur if students are to learn more creatively; the development of a new set of skills, particularly that of students developing their own learning progressions in approaching various subject matter; and a greater connection between school and the world of adult expertise. The world is changing; so to must the way we educate our students.

Book Creative Learning for the Information Age

Download or read book Creative Learning for the Information Age written by Lyn Lesch and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-05-21 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creative Learning for the Information Age: How Classrooms Can Better Prepare Students, second edition examines how students in their formative years can learn in a more creative manner and can become successful in an age in which knowledge travels so rapidly and is transformed so quickly. This book sets forth several solutions, such as new skills that allow students to perceive important relationships and connections within various subject matters, a different type of accountability that is integrally tied to student initiative, and a different learning structure that allows teacher and student to work together to develop subject matter which is more fully connected to the world of professional expertise. Lesch also assesses certain barriers which may stand in the way of students learning more creatively in our current information age. In particular, he draws attention to an emphasis on standardized testing and the introduction of national core standards – both of which significantly restrict the field of various subject matters and thereby restricting creative thinking and learning – and the potential dulling of young people’s inner lives along with a potentially distracted awareness being engendered in them by the technologies of our current digital age.

Book The Creative Enterprise of Mathematics Teaching Research

Download or read book The Creative Enterprise of Mathematics Teaching Research written by Bronislaw Czarnocha and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-28 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Creative Enterprise of Mathematics Teaching Research presents the results and methodology of work of the teaching-research community of practice of the Bronx (TR Team of the Bronx). It has a twofold aim of impacting both teachers of Mathematics and researchers in Mathematics Education. This volume can be used by teachers of mathematics who want to use research to reflect upon and to improve their teaching craft, as well as by researchers who are interested in uncovering riches of classroom learning/teaching for research investigations. This book represents the results of a collaboration of instructors discussing their own instruction research, analyzed through a conceptual framework obtained via the synthesis of creativity research and educational learning theories, based upon the work of Piaget and Vygotsky. The editors see an urgent need for creative synthesis of research and teaching, an example of which is presented in the book. Two central themes of the book are the methodology of TR/NYCity model and creativity, more precisely, creativity of the Aha moment formulated by Arthur Koestler (1964) in a very profound but little known theory of bisociation exposed in his work “The Act of Creation”. Incorporation of the theory of bisociation into classroom teaching of mathematics provides the key to enable students who may struggle with mathematics to engage their own creativity, become involved in their learning process and thus reach their full potential of excellence. Creativity in teaching remedial mathematics is teaching gifted students how to access their own giftedness.

Book Educating the Net Generation

Download or read book Educating the Net Generation written by Bob Pletka and published by Santa Monica Press. This book was released on 2007-07-01 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Educating the Net Generation: How to Engage Students in the 21st Century addresses the national problem of escalating high-school dropout rates and student disengagement, and offers solutions as to how to best involve students of the millennial generation. The book examines the unique characteristics of the Net Generation and explains how the educational expectations and needs of the Net Generation differ from their Gen-X parents and Baby Boomer grandparents. It also looks at why many students resist engaging in formalized education in schools and ultimately drop out. Chapters featuring student interviews and photographs synthesize the perspectives of current high school students regarding their experiences, beliefs, and thoughts on learning, while a parallel set of parent interviews reveals what parents feel is important in their child’s education and how they would like to see schools engage their children in learning. Recommendations for changes in school policy and the financial investment critical to turning the situation around are also included, along with an inventory/ checklist for parents, teachers, and school administrators to determine if their individual school environment has what it takes to keep students motivated and engaged.
