Book excerpt: Before you succeed at parenting, you need to succeed as a couple! Baby Bomb is the resource you need when a new baby turns your life—and your romantic relationship—upside down. A baby is a blessing—and also a completely life-altering event. If you’re like many new parents, nothing could have fully prepared you for the exhaustion of late-night feedings, the explosive diapers, the evaporation of your free time, the pure joy, and the moments of pure terror. In the midst of these hazy, early months, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed. And when you’re overwhelmed, it’s easy to put your romantic relationship on the back burner. But, more and more, research shows that in order to be the best parents you can be, you and your partner need to make sure that your needs—as a couple—are also met. Written by a psychologist and relationship expert, Baby Bomb offers powerful tools based in psychology and neurobiology to help you and your partner co-parent and co-partner as a solid and supportive team—while also cultivating mad love for each other! You’ll find more than just “tips” for better parenting and partnering; you’ll discover how a secure-functioning relationship is essential for raising happy, healthy kids. This isn’t a book with advice about how to have a romantic candlelit dinner while your baby is screaming in the other room. It’s a road map for getting on the same page about your expectations as parents, about your needs as humans, and about how to maintain a strong and lasting relationship in the face of, well, a baby bomb.

Book excerpt: The New York Times bestseller: “[A] brutally honest memoir of a brave, smart, fresh-faced young woman’s descent into domestic hell.” —Monica Holloway, author of Driving with Dead People At 22, Leslie Morgan Steiner seemed to have it all: a Harvard diploma, a glamorous job at Seventeen magazine, a downtown New York City apartment. Plus a handsome, funny, street-smart boyfriend who adored her. But behind her façade of success, this golden girl hid a dark secret. She’d made a mistake shared by millions: she fell in love with the wrong person. At first Leslie and Conor seemed as perfect together as their fairy-tale wedding. Then came the fights she tried to ignore: he pushed her down the stairs of the house they bought together, poured coffee grinds over her hair as she dressed for a critical job interview, choked her during an argument, and threatened her with a gun. Several times, he came close to making good on his threat to kill her. With each attack, Leslie lost another piece of herself. Gripping and utterly compelling, Crazy Love takes you inside the violent, devastating world of abusive love. Conor said he’d been abused since he was a young boy, and love and rage danced intimately together in his psyche. Why didn’t Leslie leave? She stayed because she loved him. Find out for yourself if she had fallen truly in love—or into a psychological trap. Crazy Love will draw you in—and never let go. “Compulsively readable.” —People “A must read for anyone in a consuming relationship.” —Iris Krasnow, New York Times–bestselling author

Book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F ck

Download or read book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F ck written by Mark Manson and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller Over 10 million copies sold In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be "positive" all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people. For decades, we’ve been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F**k positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn’t sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is—a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let’s-all-feel-good mindset that has infected American society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up. Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better. Human beings are flawed and limited—"not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault." Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek. There are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear. While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience. A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in-the-eye moment of real-talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded lives.

Book How To Break Up With Your Significant Other

Download or read book How To Break Up With Your Significant Other written by Deena Shanker and published by Hyperink Inc. This book was released on 2012-02-08 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK Breakups don’t have a one-size-fits-all solution. When you break up with someone, you are basically saying to the other person “I don’t like spending time with you anymore,” “I no longer find you attractive,” or “You are not worth the inconvenience this relationship is causing me.” So, chances are good a breakup will end with at least one person’s feelings hurt. Nobody will congratulate you on a job well done, but with some planning you can help things go more smoothly so that you and your soon-to-be-ex are able to contain your emotions, nobody is embarrassed or hurt, and the whole thing is over quickly. Use this guide to help you figure out and execute the best breakup plan for you. Formulating your plan is going to take some thought and preparation, but ultimately it will be worth it. MEET THE AUTHOR Deena Shanker is a writer living in San Francisco. After moving to the west coast from New York City in the fall, she is loving San Fran's beautiful weather, colorful architecture, and never-ending vegetarian food options. She loves visiting the beach with her dog, Barley, and eating cheese (also sometimes with Barley). She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Barnard College. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Every relationship and every breakup is different. To create a solid, reliable breakup plan, you should consider yourself, the other person, and, of course, why you want to break up. We’ll start with you. What do you ultimately want to achieve? What is your goal? Do you want to make this less painful for you, or do you want to make this easier on the other person? Your answers to these questions will help you determine the best course of action. And be sure to consider the other person as well. Are you dating a verbal person? A loud person? An emotional person? Someone who will feel sad or someone who will be angry? Think about how the person will react when you express, as Nada Surf once so precisely put it, that you “prefer the company of others to [his/her] exclusive company.” If you expect a lot of tears or yelling, prepare yourself. Now you need to think about your specific relationship. How long have you been dating? Do your paths cross often? Do you know a lot of the same people? The more serious the relationship, the more explanation is expected and, honestly, owed. If you interact regularly (e.g., as coworkers or classmates), pay special attention to what you say to avoid embarrassment later. Knowing a lot of the same people is another reason to keep the filter on. If you don’t want something repeated, don’t say it. Thinking through these things will help you figure out the hardest part of a breakup: what you are going to say? See Step Two below for more. Buy a copy to keep reading!
