Book How to Survive a Pandemic

Download or read book How to Survive a Pandemic written by Dylan Baenen and published by . This book was released on 2020-07-02 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the pandemic, mass events are being canceled in most countries of the world. Closed galleries, exhibition halls, circuses and theaters, canceled festivals. Now it is very important not to give in to anxiety and panic. Your psychological state directly affects the body's ability to fight the virus. Virus, pandemic, observation, quarantine, self-isolation, death - such a set of words from American thrillers about disasters. If you have ever watched such a movie, remember the feeling of tension in your own body that appeared from the development of the plot on the screen. And then all of a sudden, this is not a plot from the film, but rather the reality of every inhabitant in this world. And the feelings that we experience already concern this very reality. It is obvious that each of us feels fear, anxiety and panic. Some defend themselves with denial - they do not recognize quarantine and defiantly violate the rules of conduct. Everything that happens is a completely natural reaction to the stress that we all experience and will continue to experience. However there are ways to survive this pandemic and live happily despite the turbulent events. Get this book to learn more.

Book Surviving Lockdown

Download or read book Surviving Lockdown written by David Cohen and published by . This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2020 has been the year of the virus, and it will not be a mere footnote in history. This book reflects on the unprecedented changes to our lives and the impact on our behaviour as we lived through social isolation during the global COVID-19 pandemic. From sociable creatures of habit, we were forced into a period of uncertainty, restriction and risk, physically separated from families and friends. Packed with guidance and coping strategies for lockdown, this book, authored by top psychologist David Cohen, explores the impact of this widespread quarantine on our relationships, our children, our mental health and our daily lives. Benedictine monks, hermit popes, Dorothy Sayers, Daniel Defoe (who made the isolated Robinson Crusoe a hero), Sigmund Freud and a rabbi's angry dog are all among the cast of characters as we are taken on a whistle-stop tour through plagues in history and brain science, to the importance of introspection and how to make meaning from lockdown. In his trademark entertaining style, Cohen examines the psychology behind our behaviour during this unusual time to discover what we can learn about human nature, what lessons we can learn for the future - and whether we will apply them.

Book The Quarantine Quiz Book 2

Download or read book The Quarantine Quiz Book 2 written by John Forrest and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-09 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whenever I wrote the first Quarantine Quiz book, I jokingly added a Christmas round thinking it would be a surreal little addition for those taking part in Spring. Yeah, that kind of back-fired, didn't it? Here I am in October, and the chocolate Santas are appearing on the shelves of Tesco just as a second wave of coronavirus is on the horizon. Maybe, that Christmas round from book 1 will get an airing in December after all...I was blown away with the response to the first Quarantine Quiz book - thank you for the kind feedback I was emailed and the positive reviews on Amazon. It was a ray of sunshine at an otherwise bleak time. People never fail to surprise you with kindness. So here's the sequel, the obvious and grimly-titled 'Second Wave'. Fourteen more days of quizzes for those stuck indoors isolating. Join your friends and family on Zoom and facetime and pit your wits against each other, all in the name of defeating boredom.Thank you sincerely for supporting this book - you are literally helping to put food on my table! If you enjoy the quiz, please leave me a review on Amazon to help others find this book. Maybe there will be another Quarantine Quiz book in future - Spanish Flu had 4 waves, after all - but let's all hope this is the last one...

Download or read book Living On To Survive written by Zsuzsa Baross and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2022-02-18 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Those familiar with the work of Derrida will recognize the double term in the title as variations, in translation, of Derrida's untimely essay Survivre. To survive in this infinite mood and indefinite form that sets no limit to number, person, or time is at once the theme and the undercurrent that runs through the diverse texts gathered together in this volume. To survive, for such is our exceptional situation, also animates the act of writing: to shelter a personal existence and actualize the promise writing holds for saving something more than (bare) life. Derrida termed it sur-vie or living on. The texts date from different times and phases of the mutating epidemic. In chronological order, they register the progressive evolution and complication of the sense of this novel crisis. The first is contemporaneous with the immediate virus outbreak and with Agamben's provocative dismissal of the health crisis. The Two Transcripts are of video interventions that appeared on Jerome Lebre's YouTube channel Philosopher en temps depidemie, one of several platforms to call for critical discourse; a third intervention, completing the triptych, was recorded in French but never published. Here an extended, more developed version closes the volume. Engaging Derrida's Survie, it also responds to the recent death of Jean-Luc Nancy. At the center, anchoring the volume, is a complex text that can be read as a belated postscript to the first volume On Contemporaneity after Agamben, and / or as a premature preface to its forthcoming successor (The Time That Remains). It asks about the newly acquired sense of the World in Paul Celan's often cited last phrase: The world is gone. Living On / To Survive is essential reading for students and scholars in literature, philosophy and psychology.

This book was released on 2021-09-16 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millions died, health-care systems were overwhelmed and our deepest values challenged. The pandemic of 2020-21 took us to the edge, it destroyed our way of life and it undermined trust. On 8th March 2020 I shut myself away (a Brit in Amsterdam) before anyone else we know (we had co-morbidities and didn't want to die!) I searched for help from the victims of Spanish flu. I didn’t find much so I wrote this warts-and-all 'lived experience' for my young grandson, so he'd know what we went through and how the world changed -- the chaos, the confusion, the fear and the frequent stupidities. The chapter titles summarise the shifting story of surviving the virus, the lockdown and the destabilising torrent of false-news. It’s a day by day running journal of what happened, what we got wrong and what it means to us now, written with the author's young grandson in mind! Thirty-one chapters covering the key 15 months to mid-summer 2021. . . . "vivid, gripping first-hand account; essential reading" -- Jonathan Burton . . . . "upbeat, lively; philosophical reflection of a pivotal year!" -- Dr Kit Byatt . . . . "The structure and chapter outline are brilliant and enticing" -- Steve Richards . . . . "extremely readable and profound" -- Joanna Czechowska . .

From tuberculosis to bird flu and HIV to coronavirus, these infectious diseases share a common origin story: human interaction with animals. Otherwise known as zoonotic diseases for their passage from animals to humans, these pathogens—both pre-existing ones and those newly identified—emerge and re-emerge throughout history, sparking epidemics and pandemics that have resulted in millions of deaths around the world. How did these diseases come about? And what—if anything—can we do to stop them and their fatal march into our countries, our homes, and our bodies? In How to Survive a Pandemic, Dr. Michael Greger, physician and internationally-recognized expert on public health issues, delves into the origins of some of the deadliest pathogens the world has ever seen. Tracing their evolution from the past until today, Dr. Greger spotlights emerging flu and coronaviruses as he examines where these pathogens originated, as well as the underlying conditions and significant human role that have exacerbated their lethal influence to large, and even global, levels.
