Indem die Darstellung vom AngelEachsischen ausgeht, dessen Wkiterbildung im Neuan elsachsisben nachweist und die manni fac en Formen des En lisaheii zusammenstellt, die vom Altengalischen bis zum Neuengsischen unter dem Zutritt und dem Einiiuss des Romanischen sich bisweilen eigenthiimlich gestalten; indem dieselbe nicht die durch Abstraction gewonnenen logischen Verhaltnisse, sondern die vorliegenden grammatischen Formen zu Grunde le> so gibt sie ein klares und anschauliches Bild von der Bildung und dem Verlauf des Satzes und seiner Formen. Neues Licht fallt auf die Formen, die in der modernen Sprache vorliegen: sie erscheinen als nothwendige Entwicklungem die zwar von fremden Einflussen vielfach beruhrt, aber selten beeintrachtigt, in germanischem Geiste erfolgt sind. Die Bedeutung der ags. Verben erweitert sich, denn mannigfache Com ositionen fallen zusammen oder sie schwinden und ihre Bedeuiiiing fallt dem simplex zu. Sogar Verben, die in Form und Inhalt streng geschieden waren, fliessen in eine Form zusammen und diese bewahrt die doppelte Bedeutung. Manche unpersonlichen Verben werden zu personlichen, und Empfindung erscheint als ein Act des Bewustseins und der Freiheit.
